I have tamed 2 different pets to learn Bite 4 and while the pets I tame have it, when I swap to my main pet he cannot learn it. I have not had a problem with any ranks up until this point and Claw Rank 4 Learned easily.
My Pet level is 26, Bite 4 Requires Level 24
Any idea’s?
Ok on pet abilities. Stable your main pet. Find one of the pets that has bite rank 4. That pet has to use the ability to you learn it. After you learn it… you can teach it to other pets.

Thanks, I was also wondering how this worked too. You wouldnt happen to know when I can aquire dash and prowl? And also can I only train pets my level or lower?
what is your main pet, an owl by chance?
Most are around level 30. Petopideia has full list of which mobs and level items can be learned
This will give you all the available abilities, but it’s worth having a look around their Classic section to familiarize yourself with it all.
Did you actually learn it? Sometimes it takes a while of using the new pet to learn the skill, like Screech took 3 fights last night for me.
Hey All, I am new to classic wow hunter. I have been searching around but unable to find the answer. Does anyone know if I tame a pet and learn their ability at rank I haven’t learned the others can I still teach my stabled pets? For example I haven’t learned any of the bite ranks yet, so if I go tame a pet that has bite rank 6 can I still train my stabled pets bite at rank 6 or do I need to go learn ranks 1-5 first?

You can skip ranks.
@Bandwe, do you know if in Droolzcup’s example, if I go out and learn bite 6 from a pet, does it grant access to train lower level pets 1-5? Or, to train a pet bite 2, 3, 4 and 5, I have to separately learn bite 2, 3, 4 and 5?
No to both questions.
You gain that rank only, and you don’t need prior ranks to teach a specific rank of an ability.

I recently tamed a panther down at STV. The panther gave me the ability to Prowl and Dash rank 2
Couldn’t train my other pet Dash at all I had the points and everything. I’ve decided to abandon the pet and tame another with Dash rank 3

The pet that I’ve tried to learned dash 2 with is not the right level for dash 3 hopefully it works with dash 3…

PS… As I was looking around in STV for another tiger with dash I couldn’t find any which is weird and it makes me curious was the tiger that I tamed that gave me prowl/dash bugged and shouldn’t have had the dash ability, to begin with?
if it is an Elder Shadowmaw Panther they do have both Prowl and Dash. I suggest you check out Petopia as it will let you know what beasts can teach what, and it shows this one teaches both in STV.
dont forget to get the beast lore ability, its a huge help when seeing which future pet has which ability to learn.
Pets have a limit of 4 active abilites. If you already have (e.g.) Claw, Bite, Growl and Prowl, there’s no room for Dash. You can un-train your pet at a pet trainer if you want to swap abilities.

the site is GREAT. lots of pet options. I am using ressan the needler myself, and because of the site plan on getting a winterspring saber for pvp and a wolf for raiding.
