For the unitiated, blizzard is adding “private auras” in 10.1, limiting the ability for addons to detect spells and events, therefore making the player pay attention to the game rather than a ridiculous foghorn addon.
I hope this feature makes its way to WoW pvp, or at least solo shuffle. Having a shaman, who hasn’t even seen me, drop a pristinely timed grounding totem the moment I touch arcane surge isn’t good gameplay, it’s borderline cheating. Addons are making players seemingly-psychic, and it’s not fun to play against.
And yes, I know the 0.9% of the wow playerbase that are arena diehards are going to absolutely LOATHE this idea.

It’d probably be a welcome addition although I could see it further massacring the lower MMR playerbase.
Might also result in improved visual clarity regarding important mechanics so that’s cool.

This would finish off what’s left of pvp.

How do you figure? I think most people would prefer to play without worrying about making sure they have the right version of arena foghorn, and it obviously wouldn’t affect random bgs to any degree aside from maybe clearing up some screen clutter.

I’m all for reducing reliance on add-ons and improving in-game visuals. Not sure if that would come with this patch, since this will be the first with private auras, but it would be at least the foundations for it.

I just wouldn’t bother playing it again if I couldn’t see kick cds or drs. I’ve just gotten too used to them.
But that’s just me…my opinion doesn’t matter anymore since I haven’t played retail in over a month.
Pvp without addons would make WoW basically ff14
I agree, destroy weakauras.

I think reducing addon power would be good for the game but would require blizz to improve the visual clarity of the game which is pretty poor and makes these addons necessary.

I tried playing with the mes weakaura pack and wanted to tear my eyes out and ears off.
Definitely heal better when I just pay attention on my own, since I’ve played this game forever the least I can do is think for myself.
That said, I do use weakauras for procs that blizzard only shows on my buff bar and not in the middle of my screen, as I cba to stare at the top right all game seeing when I have things like an arcane shot tier set buff.

these can stay, just no need for weakauras.

I mean DRs are something that should be built into the game.

Good. Your ability to excel in PvP shouldn’t depend on having the latest Weak Aura package installed.

people make too big of a fuss over weakauras lol
does the exact same thing as omnibar/tellmewhen/whatever other addon thats been out for 10+ years
i havent played with sound on since i started playing arena, i think weakauras are just another bogeymen that people can point towards for their lack of success

the least they could do is disable audio queues imo.
visual queues still require you to actually look at something else to gather the information.
i feel like CD tracking was perfectly fine when it was just omnibar giving you a visual. everyone always condemned the use of gladiatorlossa on the flip side though.

If you get rid of addons for pvp prepare for those overly obnoxious korean MMO ability effects. Icy veins? gigantic snowstorm with dragons n crap comets n stuff smashing into the ground. Warbreaker? The earth literally being torn asunder and fire n bats n crap coming out of the ground.
Addons is preventing us from becoming like that
ya i feel the same way everytime my mages glacial spike gets grounded right before it’s about to wipe someone off the face of azeroth

online blizzcon allowing addons has had a massively corrosive effect on it though. once upon a time the addon cockpit that’s commonplace nowadays was publicly shamed to about the same extent as tank players
This would actually lower the barrier of entry significantly.
