I’m not assuming anything. Like you said, the price hasn’t changed in ages. This despite the fact that the price should have gone up and down in that time. But it didn’t. As to why they randomly picked now to use the exchange rate excuse when they could have a million times before, who knows.
Its not random. The AUD has been going downhill for quite some time and likely just broke through a floor point that triggered this evaluation. That or, its a new year. Time to review certain processes and one of them might include international rates.
Two choices really.
Guess which choice they’ll make if the AUD goes up against the USD in the future. Hint: The correct answer is that the price won’t go back down.

They are raising the price for people in those countries, how is that a difficult concept for you? The exchange rate is not the only factor, there is also buying power which can vary so to someone from Australia or New Zealand it is not the same because that amount of dollars doesn’t have the same buying power

Nope wrong. During the pandemic not only did supply drop but demand dropped as well so prices remained the same. Demand dropped because people were “sheltering in place” and not buying as much, not traveling as much.
Then the vaccine came along and ended the COVID epidemic here (the US) but several large producer nations refused our vaccine and their pandemic continued.
That meant our demand went up, but COVID induced supply remained low. That lead to an increase in prices.
As for government policy, the current administration inherited all those programs in 2021. Most of them ended within the next year or so. Only COVID induced supply chain problems remained causing supply to be lower than demand, increasing prices. We saw that in the US, Europe and some other places.
