Is there supposed to be some pre patch event I’m missing or something or is it just waiting until the 1st for the portal to open?
Yeah, go to the dark portal. There’s a single quest to kill a few demons, and if you complete it you get a tabard.
Yea I did that but I though there was more lol kinda disappointing honestly
TBC was out before Blizzard got into making big prelaunch events. Just wait till Wrath comes. The Plague event was hilarious!
Blizzard learned from the AQ opening that there shouldn’t be an event that brings all players, from both factions, into the same zone at the same time. Even on the new servers it was kinda a sh!t show with teleporting players mobs and freezing. Thats why the Naxx opening forced players to go all over the world. For TBC there are lore reasons to go through the gate. But, they didnt want a single event people would want to attend because then the server would just die.
On a personal note I loved the fact that the AQ opening was a mess. It was still playable enough while at the same time being broken like I remembered it to be.
The biggest prelaunch event in wows history was the gates of AQ. Even Naxx had a bigger pre-event than tbc.
Gates of AQ was not a prelauch event. I mean what expansion was coming out after Gates of AQ?
You are confusing prelaunch events with events before the start of a new phase.
Regardless, blizzard learned not to have events that bring all players into a single location at a specific time like the AQ event. The devs specifically referenced the server issues caused by the AQ event in interviews discussing why they didnt do that kind of event again for naxx or tbc.
tell me about Tanaan jungle release then.
I can’t say they didn’t unlearn it later. I distinctly remember reading articles and interviews where the developers remarked that they hadn’t anticipated that players would self organize the opening to the extent they did and that the naxx event was intentionally designed to avoid the player bunching that occurred. Unfortunately those articles seem lost to time.
Highlord Kruul was running amok in Hinterlands last night.
I have also seen demons in SW…
Kruul was also at the gates to Orgr and UC as well.
Now you are inventing definitions that do not exist. Pre-Launch as in before the launch of AQ you had to do the opening or ‘prelaunch’ event, ditto Naxx and the invasions.
Actually you are inventing them.
Pre-launch has always meant the 2-6 weeks prior to a new expansion launch. It is the time after a pre-patch is applied and is usually an event that takes place to mark the end of one expansion and the beginning of another.
Hence the reason the OP asked if they were missing a pre-launch event for TBC.
Which only felt that way because of the size and magnitude of the AQ and Naxx prelaunch events.
Look I’m not going to argue, lets agree that YOU are right, the entire wow community (except me) believe a prelaunch event implicitly only refers to a before expansion event and not a content patch.
The TBC prepatch is supposed to have demon invasion events scattered throughout azeroth. (Kruul attacks cities and various zones).
Some above say they’ve seen him. I, personally, have not and wondered if it was bugged.
its the tabard quest
Most memorable for those who actually did it back then sure. The biggest, not by a long shot. The playerbase was roughly half the size as it was by the time WotLK and cata prepatch events happened. And servers were also significantly smaller, and we’re pretty terrible to begin with. It didn’t take an event like the AQ opening to crash them back then.
What blows me away is the lack of lag on the naughty servers during the AQ phase.
