Prepaid question?

with all the recent events happening. my question is simple. has blizzard changed its or been forced to change its stance on prepaid phones? cause my authenticator sms thing uses a prepaid plan. I just ask because i was told previously at one point that this stuff was dictated somewhat by ftc policies/regulations. so i want to know if i will be forced to get a post paid phone and or cancel my sub. this only reason i ask. will we be notified if it changes?

If Blizzard ever changes something they will announce it through a newsblog or something.

okay. have they made any announcements about it i might have missed?

Nope nothing so far. If your phone currently works it should continue to do so.

Blizzard still requires your verification phone number to be post-paid and contracted, as reported by the phone provider.

No change.

since when? mine is prepaid but verified. works just fine for sms authenticator.

It comes down to what the network provider says.

Blizzard isn’t going to second-guess them. If the network provider says “go”, Blizzard accepts that.

If your phone company trusts you, Blizzard trusts you.

okay ill admit this is a confusing answer.

To put it another way: The folks who control the network, like T-Mobile, is the one who handles if a given phone number is prepaid or post paid. Blizzard can not control what the phone number status is, they just see if its prepaid or post-paid.

oh ok. i thought a blue or another postermight have at one point maybe said it also had something to do with the ftc regulations?

It does.

The provider lets the FTC know the status of the number/handset etc so it’s flagged as prepaid, post paid etc with them.

If I recall correctly, the blues have stated in the past when a player has a phone that was prepaid but now on a post paid plan but still unable to use it on Blizzard services, to contact their mobile provider to have it updated with the FTC.

what about if they get new phone through pre paid. will that still work?

It’s tied to the number, not the phone.

So they should be fine.
