My theory about it:
16th of august = Launch of the Fresh servers
6th or 13th of september = Prepatch for the old and fresh servers
This would let people level through 1-80 on fresh servers without the mess of the pre-patch event, and people who are actually still progressing in TBC some more weeks before the pre-patch. I dont think they will let the Pre-patch event for too long since it’s a total chaos.
I reckon Aug 16th is the absolute earliest we’ll get it. This reset with no notice yet would make people rather upset I’d think, and I doubt they’d drop it the same week as realm merges on the 9th too much could go wrong with that.
23rd is a good date, 5 weeks is plenty of time for Fresh people to level and everyone else to get their fill of prepatch. Anything later than the 30th starts to cut Fresh servers real short on prep time before launch, though I suspect most others don’t care.
They’ve said Fresh servers are coming with pre-patch. I doubt they’d change that. I suspect they’ll change/nerf the prepatch event in some way.
Yes they could change it so it’s not as chaotic as it was at the time and before Shadowlands when they brought it back. But it would be a little less authentic, so all who wanted to live it again would be sad to see a change.
As we saw in those 2 prior events 2 weeks is far enough to make many people cry over the event, saying it’s invasive and tiresome to get killed by ghouls everywhere you want to go.
True, and I’m hoping they don’t change it but just limit it to certain times or just the last few days before launch. It is annoying being killed in cities all the time but that’s also part of the fun of it.

Well they did say that “fresh servers” would be coming with the pre-patch. So either that is true or it’s not.
General concept is you would expect some information about those fresh servers prior to their launch. Which in general would mean longer than say… a day or two. People make plans on which server they want to go to etc
It would make sense that some of the servers going away on the 9th are going to become “fresh servers”.
I would expect pre-patch to either be the 16th or 23rd of August. Even the 23rd gives slightly over 4 weeks of “pre-patch” on fresh servers. Of course this is just my personal speculation…
edit: Oh and I had been wondering about the pre-patch event as it hasn’t been mentioned that I’ve seen. On fresh servers that would be a bit different experience. I guess we’ll see what happens there.
The 6-8 weeks is the xp buff.
Prepatch should be around 4-6 weeks.

Most likely one right now considering its not even on the ptr
Unfortunately, Blizzard won’t release prepatch on their stated schedule. We will have prepatch for only 2 weeks so we will get it early to mid September.
Oh well, we can’t complain too much because we did get the exp buff timely. And at least release date is in September. And there is absolutely no RDF!!! /dance. /sing. /high-five
LK will hit 26 September, not 28
poe league launches 19th. 16th doesnt get enough ppl time to pre patch farm before they take a week off for poe. 9th is the correct date

PTR got an update and is down. So we will likely get ptr prepatch this week, thats something.

Your theory is wrong because Blizzard has formally told us that the fresh servers will have the prepatch and simply have the 70-80 content locked.
We will get prepatch with fresh.
Personally, yeah, Id love that.
However, realistically,
^this is what will happen.
It would make more sense for the 9th to be the prepatch, PoE has a release the following week. It would be harder for someone to put down WoW if they are lvl20-40 prepping for Wrath instead of lvl1-15.
Also we got the prepatch beta yesterday on the launcher and the PTR is currently being altered. So the 9th will probably be the best bet with the 16th being also a good possibility.

Their communication on any of this has been incredibly bad. We have no server names, timing, etc. It’s fairly ridiculous.

I’ll take it on the 9th with open arms.
I love Wrath. Played it on Pservers for many many years prior to coming to retail 3 years ago.
Once Wrath comes out, Tier 6 will just become so much easier that I can finally bring my paladin to BT to get Tier 6 for ret Already got SWP trash 2h polearm too
