Pre-Patch Event is Terrible: Reasons Why

I am a type of player that looks forward to pre-patch events because they’ve generally been very fun. I loved the Shadowlands pre-patch event; I loved the Legion pre-patch event. They’ve all been solid. This one, however, has a lot of things that it needs to fix immediately for it to be enjoyable.

  1. Terrible Mob Scaling

For an event that is meant to level your alts, it would be nice if my alts could kill the non-elite mobs within the event. Mob scaling has never been this bad ever… I cannot fight more than 1 non-elite enemy at a time, and even that the fight is dicey for my alts.

Please fix the scaling… at the moment, it’s making me not want to play my alts because they cannot engage with the content due to how powerful the mobs are compared to my alts.

  1. Extremely Low Armor/Weapon Drop Rates from Mobs

In previous pre-expansion events, it was very easy to obtain armor/weapons from engaging with the event. Across 5 characters, I’ve only received 2 items to drop for me… that is insane.

The drop rate of armor/weapons from the mobs we kill needs to be increased drastically.

  1. Everything is EXTREMELY Expensive to Buy from the Vendors

In previous pre-expansion events, you were able to very easily purchase all of the cosmetics, armor, and weapons of the event. The amount of Radiant Echoes necessary to purchase these items is at least 10x higher than it should be.

This causes the event to feel like a chore, instead of a fun event that you get to participate in, and easily collect a bunch of cosmetics, armor, etc. to make you happy and excited for the new expansion.

At the moment, I cannot kill the mobs; I cannot collect armor and weapons from them; I am not accumulating enough Radiant Echoes to be able to purchase armor and weapons and comsetics; and because of this…

  1. My Alts Cannot Level through this Event

This event, at the moment, is a huge miss on all 4 parameters listed above.

Except for my level 70 characters, who are geared, I’ve had to just sit at nodes and wait for others to complete them for me in order to get any Radiant Echoes.

This is not fun.

I give this current pre-expansion event an “F.” This is terrible and not enjoyable.

EDIT:

I want to add 2 new things which I’ve noticed that need to be changed, too:

  1. Dying to a Boss Prevents you from Getting Any Loot

This is different from the entirety of the rest of WoW. If you die to a boss in a raid or a dungeon, you still get XP, and you still get the rewards. I don’t know why they chose to code these pre-event bosses to give ZERO rewards if you happen to die during the encounter.

  1. If You Die in Dragonblight, Your Ghost Cannot Fly

This is absurd. They need to allow your ghost to fly in Dragonblight, too.

EDIT #2:

  1. The Dalaran Defender’s Gear is ONLY Level 70 - So it DOES NOT Drop for sub 70 Toons

This is also ridiculous. In past pre-expansion events, your alts were able to obtain the armor/transmog of the event WHILE leveling. Because the Dalaran Defender’s gear is only for level 70s, it only drops from the daily quest… once.

What’s the point of creating cosmetic armor during a leveling event that only level 70 toons can farm??

Agree with you on all points except the currency, which is fine. You can actually gather it relatively quickly, but as you said, doing the event alone is almost impossible unless you’re on a very populated server, which have become quite rare with all the players who left WoW.
So my tip is to find a raid group and just join them for leveling.

I do think more adjustments could and should be made, yeah. It’s way better than it was to start with, but more could certainly be done.

The HP scaling makes sense until you realize that the goal of each event is to knock out the objectives quickly to spawn the boss, and then do it all over again for an hour. It actually creates less chances to get a tag because there’s not as many spawns per hour now because all the mini bosses and bosses are damage sponges.

As far as the gear drop rates…yeah, they are too low. And I’m not a fan of them being random armor and weapon types. I also think that having drops exclusive to classes below 70 was kind of a jerk move.

When it comes to vendor prices though…nah, it’s fine. After a single round you should have a fair amount to work with, and the number will only go up from there the more you do it. At first, yeah, the amount of currency you need seems daunting, but once you start grinding it out it’s…really not so bad. Can’t say I agree with you on this point.

Also, players are leveling just fine as things currently stand, though I think making adjustments to scaling would help a lot. Not in complete agreement with this point either. I would say that, for the most part, this particular thing could be considered a “skill issue”, but I would be fine if they wanted to make the process easier than it already is.

This is a real shame, because when the pre-patch events are fun, engaging, alt-friendly, and satisfying from a loot- perspective, (Legion and Dragonflight especially), it really makes me excited for the new expansion.

Right now, I feel like I felt at the end of Legion. I really loved Legion and wasn’t eager to leave it behind. The BfA pre-patch was so forgettable it made getting into BfA a chore.

I love Dragonflight even more than Legion. The DF prepatch was a blast like Legion’s. As much as I love the Anduin/Thrall cinematic (my favorite to date), I’m not ready to leave The Dragon Isles.

I’ve not really begun the pre-patch event yet because I’m not quite finished getting everything I want from Remix, so I have questions…

  1. Even though Blizzard just Hotfixed the event to make it better, it’s still bad?
  2. How much worse was it before the hot fixes?

The only thing they need to do is phase geoups together if there aren’t a lot of people in the area. We are supposed to take them out in 20 seconds. I have dinged 4 or 5 levels in under 30 minutes on an alt and the drops are more for alts than anything else .

I was having a problem with the scaling as well, though certainly not to the point that i couldn’t kill regular mobs. I was just doing next to nothing against bosses. No one was. I was advised to make sure I wasn’t in Chromie time. Turns out I was. I left that and then it was ok.

How does that make a difference? Curious to know. Thanks.

I got the whole plate set and heirloom ring doing each zone once. Did it solo. Worst was dustwallow where there was no one at a memory sometimes. But 3 hours and im done is not bad.

In a literal sense, I don’t know. But in an anecdotal sense, it seemed to make a difference. Scaling is a tricky thing I’m sure. I was in legion Chromie time and we go to the event via legion dalaran. So maybe the scaling for Chromie gets tangled with the scaling for the event.

Or maybe it wasn’t that at all. Maybe by the time I got back there were more level 70s around. In any case, can’t hurt to try.

I just stepped this alt out of Chromie time but she is also now 52 so things are going to zoom on their own.

People got spoiled with the remix bronze costs and forgot currency in the actual game isn’t as abundant.

You must be kidding
You’re undergeared… and its the end of the expansion
Your gear is actually from season 2
You’re NOT even PLAYING THE GAME :dracthyr_crylaugh:

Interesting!

I’ll check if my guys aren’t in Chromie time, too… Truly, I’ve been shocked that my level 50 alts are struggling to take down 1 single non-elite mob. This is a problem in zones like Dragonblight and the Onyxia one where you get swamped by groups of 2-3 mobs all the time…

It truly sucks knowing that you can’t do any damage.

I do not find it enjoyable or rewarding to hover at a node and let level 70s do the work for me…

So far, that’s all my alts can do. Pretend to do damage and stand far away from bosses so they don’t get killed, because if you DO get killed, these are the only bosses who give you zero rewards if you die during the fight.

I think Blizzard could’ve been more generous with sub 70 gear but I’ve leveled, literally, over 15 toons I think from 50+ and 60+…almost all of them healers and casters which I have the least experience playing and I think people are just being left of bell curves when it comes to non elite mob difficulty.

Here is a hint: If it is eligible…take the gear upgrade. Yes it resets your bars, but the gear is quite more powerful than that abandoned alt likely had. Most of my alts literally had item level 76 timewalking vendor blues and they got replaced with like 200 or 300+ ilvl greens…plus given how long it’s been since some of them even got looked at, it wasn’t like my spec or bars were likely good/relevant still anyway. I’m more than capable of quickly identifying and putting things back where I know/expect them to be.

And when in doubt, heirlooms can scale up to 70.

You forgot: Dalaran and Kara zones are not ever popping up as part of the rotation. I have enough memories from Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, and Northrend to make multiple Essences for each one… Zero memories from Dalaran Or kara.

Bugged? Every time i wait for this timer to hit 00… It picks one of the 3 I already have spent days doing.

Can anyone else confirm? Cuz if it’s bugged, I will stop wasting my time waiting. I mean, if I was expecting anything other than some free levels for alts, I wouldn’t even be doing it. Such a waste of time.

Only strange part is saying it was easier to get gear last pre-patch when the rate of acquisition is roughly the same.

Only real difference are the amounts you receive and the amounts you spend have more zeros on them the rate of fully gearing a toon in TWW pre-patch with the event vendor gear and the DF pre-patch vendor gear was roughly the same, the TWW pre-patch possibly edging out to be faster after they put the change through.

The flip? There is no Dalaran or Kara event…why do you think there is?

Explains why they never show up as part of the rotation?

Correct, they don’t occur as part of a rotation because they were never part of the event. The extra portals you’re seeing are probably because of Legion artifact weapons as one of the quests take you to Kara.

Would be good if they didn’t do random nonsense like ‘recycle these portals here’

Spending my time waiting for the other two… I mean, 3/5 have been rotating events. logically following…

Yeah, thanks.
