Pre-Patch Date

I heard from “sources” that the pre-patch isn’t dropping until the 6th. I was hoping for tomorrow, but I see that tomorrow’s maintenance is only 1 hour and they also have more realm merges scheduled for tomorrow.

So my questions are these:

1- Have pre-patches in the past ever come with only the standard 1 hour maintenance? Or should we expect a longer window on that day? I know much of the data is already on our clients due to background downloading. Just wondering if they can push the patch in a 1 hour window. Seems unlikely.

2- Would they drop a pre-patch on a day when realm merges are scheduled? Has that happened before? It would seem a bit unfair for the players on those realms to be waiting while others have access. I’d also think they’d be cautious due to the problems that have arisen following the merges.

Usually connections are done on Thursday, patch is Tuesday.

Doubt the patch is going to be in a one hour window though, count on 8 hours due to the changes.

Anything else should be asked in the gd. Cs likely won’t have the patch specific answers yet.

Patches typically involved an 8 hour scheduled maintenance window. It doesn’t always require the full 8 hours of work, but is generally what is initially scheduled.

I’m hoping that we would get more than 24-hours notice that the launch event was starting.

The 1-hour maintenance would not be long enough for the level-squish and other changes (like zones, professions, and gear) to go through. I agree that an 8-hour maintenance would be more likely for when it’s going live.

Thanks. Good to know.

I agree. Maybe later this week they’ll announce something (even if it’s just a comment in maintenance notice that next Tuesday’s maintenance will be 8 hours to accommodate the pre-Launch event).

Don’t forget the new Barber Shop!

This is about to be the shortest pre-patch we’ve ever had. I feel like the development team isn’t actually ready to release it yet. I’m somewhat worried.

Last patch we had 3 or 4 weeks? I don’t remember. I just remember getting used to chars for the month. This time around I figure I will do transmogs for the last 2 months before expansion. Some of the mogs I have gotten for my chars are flipping awesome lol… Not the one I am currently wearing though. This one is ugly.

Why? Three weeks or four weeks, does it really matter? Anecdotally, I’ve known many people who think four weeks is too long. They finish the pre-patch event and just have to wait for 2+ weeks for expansion night.

First off, of course not. They won’t release it until they feel it’s ready.

Second off, don’t worry about it. It isn’t some big harbinger of doom. It’ll happen when it happens.

I think 3 weeks is pretty reasonable for people to learn the class changes (for those that did not participate in the Beta) and do the pre-launch events. And not so long that people who were idle would feel bad about re-subbing to do a week or two of content and then sit around for weeks doing nothing.

That’s just Bliz trying to ensure there is a little bit of time for those that don’t or aren’t able to log in as often to get an opportunity to see things before the expansion.

And fix anything that breaks.
