Pre-Alpha Feedback: Dracthyr and Evoker

Who cares about lore as long as the game is fun.

If Shadowlands is anything to go by: many players.

Yeah, but not all dragons are gigantic. You have those dragon guards that seem to have anthropomorphic bodies (the ones at the wyrmrest accord that don’t have wings).

I don’t know. I guess I would be FINE with them being this experiment if the visages and dragon forms didn’t both look so ugly…

Yikes.

Yes, the Drakonids. I do not know why Blizzard did not use these guys except for they wanted to go all-in with the flying for the animations but even then just give these subset of Drakonids wings.

I want them to be able to tank as a big buff dragon.

Agreed.

as opposed to

that sounds that they could possibly do it in a future expansion down the line. Doesn’t even seem like they will for sure do it. Just saying it’s possible

I have to admit, because of Shadowlands, I’ve REALLY wanted to play as a race with wings.

The ascended kyrian and the stoneborn both look so amazing!!!

I’ve also wished for the longest time that Demon Hunters could just use their wings to fly with as a flying mount (while out of combat and with a 1.5 second cast time, like all other mounts).

Sigh.

They gave us this… it’s disappointing.

I am also worried about how the story is going to be. I keep hearing “Dragonflight is all about eXpLorAtIoN!!” Okay… but I actually love the story of Warcraft. What’s happening with the Light and the Void? What’s going on right now?

I’m worried that this will be another WoD…

Yep, I remember a similar promise for Demon Hunters that has yet to be fulfilled.

they are not real dragons they are just humans that hang out for too long with dragons

Dracthyr won’t even be able to fly with their wings except for basic Dragonriding. Another missed opportunity.

We can only wait and see unfortunately, although I believe this will be closer to Mists of Pandaria in execution.

I am jusy choosing to be happy with what we got. I think what we did get is amazing

Oh no… so they’re like Worgen if Worgen couldn’t run on all fours.

What a disaster.

Nothing wrong with that.

Blizzard mentioned that Dragonflight will flesh out their lore, so there is a possible retcon coming for them. More experiments used as draconic soldiers?

Very similar to Worgen but with more restrictions.

my biggest issue is that they won’t be able to really use mog. while im not a fan of being in the dragon form in combat also being locked out of mog sounds so bad. its not fun on druids and they just make it worse with dracthyr

They’re magic and shapeshifters. It’d have worked fine if they assumed a smaller combat form alongside their smaller allies. The anthro dragon/drakonid form is a good compromise as well, but taking the customizable mount and making it their true form and having a scaled down combat form, would have been a cool option as well. Especially if they were young dragons.

Impressively well thought out and articulated (or written if you perfer). That said, I have to disagree with most of it.

You are, first and foremost, a dragon. You are under no illusions that you are a mortal race and your humanoid visage is for OUR benefit and not necessarily your own. This perfectly explains why you would choose to keep and fight in it similarly to how we’ve seen other dragons shift into their true forms when fighting. Worgen too are canonically much stronger, faster, and sturdier in their beastial forms meaning there is nothing but a disadvantage to be in humanoid form when fighting hence why they shift when in combat.

As for the spec limitations, again, you are a dragon. Classes are constructs of the mortal races to handle and go through their life. At no point in time, would any of your dragon life/experiences taught you how to be a druid or a warrior or a paladin. That said, given the inherent magical nature of dragons, I can 100% support them being mages and priests only (warlocks too but I don’t see any lore reason why they’d have demons especially given their past with demons).

From a practical standpoint, not letting the new race be any kind of martial class solves a player problem too…quite frankly, the game has WAY too many melee players (and this includes tanks). Every new class that has been introduced to WoW has been a tank and melee-capable class AND we even lost a range spec to become a melee spec. Look at random people out and about in the world today and you’ll see most of them are melee and/or tanks. Not only has the game added cool new melee/tank classes, but the focus of the game and the design changes over the years have been MUCH more favorable to melee over casters which is, in large part, why the great inbalance even exists in the first place. Quite simply, nearly every other melee spec is way easier to play and performs way better and is just more FUN to play in any kind of content than a caster is. So while I can certainly agree there is plenty of justifiable reason to have a melee spec/playstyle for a dragon race, I 100% support and insist Blizzard stick to their guns on this one…the game NEEDS far less people playing melee and tank specs and instead playing casters and healers. Outside queue content (which honestly needs changed to do away with “needing” tanks or healers altogether), there is absolutely a massive tank and melee glut that adding the new dragon race to is just going to make way worse.

I am disheartened though why Blizzard seemingly is restricting the humanoid forms though to elves and humans when it seems to me to have been perfectly feasible to just let the humanoid form be any race. Dragons are well known to pick from all the various races and given the age of AR’s and the blending of Horde and Alliance (expected to be more of a thing later too), there really is no good reason that I can see to just not let the pool of humanoid visages be any currently playable race. Like is it really game breaking for a dragon-orc running around SW or a dragon-dwarf in Org?

Finally, I don’t think the flight’s magic preference really matters. There have been numerous times where red dragons were used to burn as they have healed, green has hurt as well as healed, etc. Also given that all the dragonflights are represented in the swirling spell effects, I think it’s fine as is how the specs use/focus on what they currently do.

Ion said in an interview earlier that it is “Definitely possible” that they will get other classes later and then specifically used warrior as an example.
