Prayer of healing is great for mythic+

Check these logs of my +6 grim batol run. Handled AOE damage like a champ without any stress.

In order of total healing taken from the Details! addon

  1. Flash Heal - 22.9% healing, 5% overheal
  2. Echo of light (Mastery)- 14.6% healing 40% overhealing
  3. Holy Word Serenity - 13.7% healing 5% overhealing
  4. Holy Word Sanctify - 5.9% healing 29% overhealing
  5. PRAYER OF HEALING 5.9% healing 8% overhealing

Just use prayer of healing after Sanctity and Circle of Healing. Cast 2-4 times to get the bonus healing, let mastery do its work, and top people off with your single heals once the aoe threat is over. Pop Halo when life starts getting below half. Refer to the talent spec to see. https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/character/us/zangarmarsh/lokubi/

Who this is for: Pugs

If you are with a group that you know well, people do mechanics right 95% of the time, and you have coodination, go with the more traditional damage build to contribute. But if you’re like me, and you pug all day long, you need to keep people alive. THIS keeps people alive. THIS gets rid of the argument that “priests don’t have good aoe”. And of course, it may be the talent spec needed for particularly AOE heavy dungeons like City of Echoes, and Grim Batol.

The downside: Circle of healing is still crap

Its only 2.7% of my healing with 23% overheal. But, if you view it as a ‘global cooldown buff for POH’ you understand why you get it.

“But I can put out more HPS using single target heals!”

True, but the goal of this is not used to fill up life bars to full. Its to mitigate the AOE damage so that people don’t dip into the danger zone, then top them off using single target heals. When AOE is going out, single target heals do more direct healing, but result in lopsided life bars over time. It takes you a few casts often times to get people up, and people can dip into the danger zone of being one shot by a mechanic failure, or even just other unavoidable damage right after.

People forget that we have bigger life bars, and AOE damage generally comes after a cooldown period. Your goal is to mitigate that so you can safely fill to full after. This works VERY well for this purpose. This also lets you handle AOE when Halo is on cooldown (Oracle as well I’m sure) You can handle “The Coagulation” boss much easier.

My point is writing this is to note that Prayer of Healing in five man mythic+ is viable. I can’t see this being a great raid build, but if you’re a priest that can’t seem to handle the AOE that’s being put out and feel like we can’t handle it, give this spec and strat a shot.

Edit: Have healed and Timed +7’s and +8s with this same spec and found it extremely easy. Still going strong.

Why would I ever cast PoH when rotating Flash heals, Heals, and Serenity does the same jobs faster?

PoH does less healing than flash heal so I don’t waste any points on it.

I did note it, but I’ll point it out again. Its about overall AOE mitigation. Life bars stay even, and the overall impact of the AOE on the damage to the party is much less threatening and manageable. At the point the AOE is over, switch back to single targets to fill people up. What you’ll find in mitigating the AOE is people don’t get into the danger zone very frequently, so there’s no need to panic heal. This means you have your cooldowns for when people are in the danger zone, instead of having to use them on every AOE.

I get a lot less people in the sub 20% part when doing this. Direct heals take global cooldown and time, and that means the people you get too last have eaten the brunt of the AOE. I have tried the traditional POM direct heals strategy, and I found in keys +5 and higher that this makes AOE damage much more manageable. My suggestion is: “Try it out for a few dungeons.” If you don’t like it, don’t use it. I found it to be very helpful and fix the “AOE healing weakness” most have been feeling.

You’ve got to be trolling at this point.

Like I’ve already commented on a previous post of yours and the guy above you said too, Flash Heal rotating through the other four party members is faster, heals more, and costs less mana than using Prayer of Healing.

You’ve seriously got to be trolling with posting a 6% overall healing with PoH and claiming how awesome is is.

When the AoE is over I’m not behind on healing and can go back to DPS not continue casting heals.

Then I’m glad you found a way to do dungeons comfortably this season. It’s a rough season.

Its number five in overall healing just behind our AOE holy word. Meaning my AOE healing combined with circle is close to 15% of my overall healing. Further, I’m only using AOE healing when everyone in the party is damaged sufficiently. Meaning that this is mostly AOE spike healing, not constant healing over the dungeon.

Now go do an 8 City of Threads.

Building up to it. Just completed most dungeons on +6, so feel ready to do +7s now.

One thing I’ve noticed is the Priest community - especially the priest discord - gets the pitchforks out when you suggest anything outside the box.

Mention Renew or PoH and get ready to get dunked on.

I always evaluate the data before coming to my conclusions. I remember people on the forum were saying Lightweaver was good for raid and I couldn’t believe it. Once I looked at the data and tested it myself I came to the conclusion they were right. Heal is 8-10% of my overall in raid.

At the end of the day there’s no meta holy priest build. You can play it in many different shades and still find success.

Also that’s good that you guys are progressing up the key ranks. I always like to move up slowly in the brackets to get used to the key difficulty.

For anyone who is curious about how PoH compares to simple Flash Heal:

The numbers for my character (that should scale to whatever your item level is) are that Flash Heal does a total, on average, of 676,593 healing per cast with all relevant talents selected and including the extra 15% crit chance talents. This assumes that you are rolling the heal across other party members.

PoH does a total of 655,940 on average with all relevant talents selected and including the 25% chance to leave a 6 second renew on a target and also the extra 15% healing assuming that you have cast Holy Word: Sanctify before your PoH casts.

Neither of these includes the Resonant Words talent. This does not factor in the use of Lightweaver. This does not factor in any additional healing or damage reduction that you get with Flash Heal procs, crits, or self-casts. These numbers do not factor in the tier set bonus.

Assuming you have also cast Circle of Healing along with Holy Word: Sanctify before your PoH, PoH and Flash Heal both take about the same amount of time to cast and cost about the same amount of mana for 8 seconds or roughly 5-6 casts.

676k for Flash Heal and 656k for PoH. PoH is only slightly less effective as long as it is being cast in that 8 second window following a Holy Word: Serenity and then a Circle of Healing cast.

Thank you for running the numbers. In my experience, this is the only time you should be casting it. And because it is equally spread out over five people, its more effective when everyone’s life bars are in danger. Finally, my POH overheal is almost always around 5%. I just did a few +7s for the first time, and I had absolutely no worry in keeping people up in AOE situations.

Healing is not dps, especially in five mans. Effective healing and keeping people in safe safety zones are sometimes much more important than HPS.

You’re forgetting that flash heal cleaves to another previously healed target and yourself. PoH only procs from the 4 set

I actually haven’t tested PoH w/ Revitalizing Prayers and the 4-piece. I’m curious if the replicated PoH can proc Revitalizing Prayers.

Ok… I finally got around to partially finish my Excel sheet! Hero Talents excluded.

Breakdown:

Flash Heal (Improved Flash Heal + Unwavering Will + Binding Heals + Trail of Light + Crisis Management + 4 Pc set)
1.40M Healing total
1.16M Heal/Second
15.6 Heal/Mana
12.9 Heal/S/Mana (Efficiency)
Average Overheal from Raid (25.40%)

Heal (Unwavering Will + Binding Heals + Trail of Light + Lightweaver + 4 Pc)
1.87M Healing total
1.32M Heal/Second
31.1 Heal/Mana
22.0 Heal/S/Mana (Efficiency)
Average Overheal from Raid (31.9%)

Prayer of Healing (5 Targets, Unwavering Will + revitalizing Prayer + Prayer Circle + 4 Piece)
Side Note Note: Renew Drop on Revit. Prayer is stronger than Sanctified Prayer in this exercise)
.98M Healing Total
.76M Heal/Second
11.2 Heal/Mana
8.69 Heal/S/Mana (Efficiency)
Average Overheal from Raid Testing (23.21%)

Note 1: on this, is that taking Prayer Circle removes the very substantial bonus from Circle of healing’s Healing Chorus, and removing Prayer Circle absolutely guts these prayer of healing’s numbers.
Note 2: going this route runs into the issue of requiring too many talents in the mid point stage, that you have to give up something.
Note 3: these numbers absolutely do not take into consideration everything, such as more renew procs and more healing on renew targets, but are to be seen at face value. The delta on it is hard to overcome.

These numbers are quite clear that this is not something viable to play, competitively, but as OP states, if it’s enough to keep everyone alive thru the AOE phase, then it can be used at non-competitive keys to simplify life/change your gameplay style… because we’re all here at the end of the day to have fun.

Cheers,

On a +6 or +7 it’s plausible to just PoH your way through the AOE damage because it’s only around 1-3 mil damage per target in the group. When you’re in a +10 or higher the AOE damage ramps up a lot to 3-5 million damage per person in the group. You often only have 10-20s to top the group off before the next round comes your way.

The way that works for me is I line up a cooldown for each phase of the AOE damage so it’s a lot easier to just top everyone off to 100% fast.

This is very cool of you, but just a few things.

  1. This is for five man’s not raids. I would never advocate POH for raids because of the nature of how healing works there.

  2. You didn’t duplicate the talent spec I noted. You will not take the renew chance talent, but the one that buffs POH by 15%

  3. A real comparison would be to duplicate the talent spec I have. And yes, I have the four piece. Did you do that and compare?
