Power Supplies!

I got it on Amazon a while back; it’s on a midrange build. IIRC it was a B-tier unit.

I have my old 8700k and 5700XT with it right now.

That’s incredible.

My go-to brand has been EVGA for years, albeit mostly for familiarity’s sake. I’ve had a couple of issues over the years though, including one dying a smoke filled death. They’ve been very reliable for the most part however.

I’m likely going to give Corsair a try now, considering the great experience you guys have had with them.

I’ve got an EVGA PSU in my son’s PC; it is this model:

He’s got a 5.1ghz 10900KF and an RTX 3060 on it right now

it’s quite pricey right now; i didn’t pay that much for it. IIRC I paid around $90 on sale

Dang I love that color green plate. I wouldn’t mind at all having my system accented in that exact color.

you’ll probably never see it; that would be facing down usually since so many cases use the basement layout

I’d see it in my Antec three hundred.

evga has quality units, solid units, mediocre units, and sub par units. They use various OEMs to the point that I had an evga rep tell me they never used seasonic as an oem and I had to remind them they did in fact use them as an oem one of their initial lines.

that’s a decent price, FSP built unit that offers solid performance

great case, built like a tank. I retired mine a long time ago

I love it. I’ve held onto it longer than I should though. Here and there I’ll browse around at new cases, but I’m too on the fence at what to choose.

B-Stock you mean?

If it does the job why replace it? Plus it has the gpu side vent for better air flow which went the way of the dodo due to all the glass side panels.

Yep, exactly why I’ve held onto it so long. It’s super solid/stable, has plenty of room inside, and I love the side vent.

I’d sort of like a more modern case with better cable managment options and such (and just to have something newer) though the solid side panels don’t honestly appeal to me that much – and that’s what most everything is these days.

With a solid panel, I feel that I need to up my cooling game with either some front fans or an AIO.

I guess the glass panel thing that’s so common became really popular due to the RGB lighting craze, but I don’t actually like RGB anyway.

no, just referencing the old psu tier list from those aggregators

I actually had 2 evga psu go bad on me. Their Customer service was god tier and sent me replacements which arrived next day since I don’t live too far from their warehouse.

One case I’ve been trying to acquire (with zero luck) has been the new Fractal North case.

It’s nothing ground breaking, just your typical mid-tower airflow case. But it has some nice wood accents on the front panel that just look really nice.

don’t put too much stock in them. most rely more on reputation of the oem and parts, they often place a higher standard on things that the average user would not use. It’s not that they are bad (some are) but rather they often don’t clearly define what the user benefits from going from one tier to another to make an accurate decision.

Mmm, I like that a lot too actually. Super nice.

They seem to mostly aggregate reviews and known issues. Which is the most helpful part.

one guy pretty much handles all the reviews now, he does PCgamer, techpowerup, toms,…used to do kitguru but they have a different guy now.

Not to get too far off topic but many web sites that used to review PSU either went under or stopped doing them. It’s a shame although the industry has gotten much better than they were even ten years ago. In the 90’s, buying an after market PSU meant your PC is back up and running or you are about to get a spark show and may be shopping for a new PC. Hence why PC Power & Cooling became popular.

Just curious what models if you remember. I had a Supernova Nex 750B go up in smoke.

Yeah, even the old Johnny GURU guy now works for Corsair, so obviously he’s going to be biased in whatever he says now. Although the site is now run by someone else.

He gets interviewed a lot by GN as an expert, but again, it’s going to be biased. However, I haven’t had any issues with Corsair parts anyway. Except their memory and Ryzen.
