I’m leveling a priest and decided to go Alchemy / Herb for fun since my mage is already an Enchanter / Tailor. Was curious what your guys thoughts would be on Elixir master vs Potion master? What’s better for gold making in your experience?
potion, flasks prices are a joke
I honestly think Potion Master is the better of the two but, if you want to look at it from a WotLK perspective then it’s more tricky with Transmutation Master being a very profitable thing to consider.
With Potion Master in WotLK you’re primarilly making either Potion of Wild Magic or Potion of Speed since WotLK has Potion Sickness (can only use one potion per combat). Healing and Mana Potions are probably rarely going to used outside of maybe the endless ones that are Alchemy only.
With Transmutation Master you can make Titansteel Bars which are pretty much Arcanite Bars, you can also transmute low level blue gems into their epic versions (won’t be in at the start). Not only that but just like in TBC you can transmute gems and eternals (WotLK version of primals) into WotLK’s version of Primal Might (Eternal Might) and also into the uncut Meta Gems.
If you’re set on being a Potion/Elixir Master I’d say be Potions Master but for WotLK at the very least early on, I’d say Transmutation Master. Do note that if you plan on changing your specialization even in WotLK you are required to do the TBC quest for them. That means doing Botanica’s second boss and looting their book with some other potions for Potion Master and handing in 5 Primal Might for Transmutation Master.
potion for sure, you can change no problem whenever you want. i think it costs 200g or 150g
potion is just handy cuz it can proc off even low level potions, like mighty rage, FAP, invis pots etc
as for making gold i would say neither, alch is horrible for making gold in my experience. my alch char had all the good recipes for entire tbc and made like 300g in tips maybe. been all 3 different specs.
Tipping is a weird situation. if you are proccing a ton of extra haste pots for example. they get mad if u keep it, they get mad if you don’t proc, etc. and the market is just super flooded with alchs. On my server there is some guy who has both a pot master and elixir master and he just spams trade all day every day.
The main perk of alch imo is Mad Alch potion combined with the alch stone trinket. this is god mode in BGs or wpvp. it can crit heal as well (I think all potions can). This is one of the main reasons i stayed potion master. Even in pve without the alch stone trinket, it’s nice having an HP+Mana potion especially on bosses like najentus.
Transmute is the best money maker. Elixir vs potion doesn’t really matter anymore. Pick whichever one you want. I like elixir because shat does not have chromatic flasks. They still have to be made, and these are the ones I want to use. If you are a serious potion guzzler though, you may like potion mastery.
“Do note that if you plan on changing your specialization even in WotLK you are required to do the TBC quest for them.”
-This is not true. You only have to do 1 mastery quest on a character. After that, if you want to switch, you simply pay a fee to drop what you have then go pick up the new mastery.
I’m not so sure about that, I’ve barely proc’d. But that could be really poor luck I guess. Highest I’ve had is 2 sky diamonds.
Saronite to titanium. Titansteel is mining.
I would go with potion, as WoTLK started the craze of pre-potting before bosses, as it resets potion cool downs when encounters start.
Yeah you’re right.
Potion mastery is by the best and most worthwile.
