There are new creatures in 9.2 that uses music to communicate.
it reminds me of the champion in league of legends: bard.
So, what do you think about a bard class in wow?
Not interested in the slightest
/Moo
I don’t think an enhancement class works in WoW.
I love the idea of a Bard and read various books when I was in my high fantasy reading phase where they were primary magic users, not support, using both voice and instrument.
So, as a primary magic user class, and with both a back story and an introductory story that would bring them into the World in an organic manner (like a hidden sleeping Titan/God/Something of prophecy awakes due to freakin’ sword sticking out of the planet to teach the worthy this special music magic to deal with it and heal the wound), I wouldn’t have a problem with it.
Oh, they would be open to every race, wear leather and have a great dance !
Also this idea is already being explored here, along with Tinker and Necromancer:
I’d be interested to see what they did with Bard.
There’s two major problems with Bards;
-
Blizzard already tried their playstyle with Shaman and Paladin in vanilla (buff class). It was a massive failure, and prompted Blizzard to go with the trinity system instead.
-
There is zero history of Bard heroes in Warcraft. Keep in mind that WoW classes are based on heroes. You have no hero for the class concept, then you have no class.
Would love to see some class quests involving Elite Tauren Chieftain.
In Tolkien, music was power. Same for many Zelda games. WoW should add it in to the lore. Zovaal could open to doors to the realm of cacophony and we must via the six songs of power seal the gateway.
Maybe not call them bards, but wield some kind of and instruments.
stop
That sounds like an Enhancement Shaman with music.
I want tinker more but I’ll take bard
As long as I can make a Goblin with a Flame Thrower Electric Guitar and a Mechagnome that looks like this you have my support!

I Find Bard to be a very generic fantasy class.
I don’t think WoW is a very generic fantasy setting.
I’d rather have something that feels like part of the “World of Warcraft”
Bards are spoony.
no, support classes dont work
Look, WoW already had Shamans and early Holy Paladins, both of which had heavy “support” themes via group buffing totems with no CD but a limited range and short-duration single target buffs with no CD respectively.
Blizzard actively moved away from this “support” idea since then. The Paladin thing went away first, because it was awful. The Shaman thing, even being more passive as it was, also went away by MoP I believe.
The “hybrid tax” as a concept also went away, in either Cata or MoP I wanna say, and a proper Bard is something that would absolutely need to reintroduce that – and I don’t see Blizzard doing it.
FFXIV only gets away with it because their Bard is no longer a support class and is functionally just an Archer class.
At the end of the day, it’s not a concept that works for what WoW is. It barely would have fit even in Vanilla, but it’s ridiculous to consider at this point.
I say just add playable instruments like many other MMOs have. It’s a fun gimmick. If they can allow chords, even better. It’s a bit frustrating to work around the “single notes only” limitation GW2 and FFXIV and probably others have.
In the meantime, WoW -does- have a fantastic addon – Musician – that more or less does this, and better than the mentioned alternative MMOs, but it’s pretty niche and I only see like 6 people playing music at any given time on Moon Guard (A), in the entire world, during primetime.
Yes please.
I don’t consider myself a fan of bards as a concept. (They’re Boring)
But looking at all these replies makes me think that bard could work… as a profession.
Something that can be used out of combat to provide buffs to a group. Similarly to Alchemy and cooking.
You all are completely right. A class that supports other classes is a bad idea, It doesn’t work in WoW.
But a Profession that supports the group could work just fine!
Wait hold up they copied the ascians cause they speak with music too
