With a character under lvl 10 though it wasn’t possible to find the armory at all.
And I have no idea what you are referring to in the last two sentences. I never had problems with lvl 1s posting.
This is a second account which I started posting on because my first account didn’t have game time for awhile. Then I continued because I wasn’t sure what
this forum would bring.
So if people want privacy they still can have it, if people want to make a level 10 on a separate account to ‘troll’, they still can.
All this does I guess is earn blizzard more $$ - good job.
Level 1 characters posting on forums do not usually post something useful. It is their way of hiding their identity. We have had them on Emerald Dream. I don’t know your server, Blackwater-raiders but they can be annoying if you are trying to put together an RP event on the forums and you have a level 1 acting like a fool on your post. I am happy to see this change.
I think that is selective perception. A whole lot of people seem to indicate lvl 1 did this or that and I saw plenty of max level characters who did the same thing. It may be different on the server forums but on general discussion I really couldn’t see a lot better behavior from 110s or 120s than I could from lvl 1s.
While this is a welcome change…it won’t stop the shadow alt problem completely.
All they have to do is roll a DK (and since they eliminated the requirement that a character must be level 55 before rolling a DK a long time ago, it’s easily doable) and go post their bullcrap.
If you really want to stop the shadow alt problem, make the requirement level 60. That way they are forced to choose 3 options:
Option A: Make a toon, pay $60 for a level boost, and go post.
Option B: Make a DK, level for a bit, and then post.
Option C: Make a regular toon and play for a good while.
Full Disclosure - Yes, I was one of those shadow alts that posted in General Discussion.
This is one of those changes that, while I see the reasoning behind it, I am not fully with. The thing I see here is that it’s traded one form of trolling for another… use of the Armory.
Now I fully admit that I have used this tactic in the past myself. Mostly to counter people claiming certain periods of time in WoW History were better than others and finding they never played during those times (e.g. how PvP was so much better in Vanilla when they don’t have a Vanilla PvP FoS). But I foresee, without the moderators kicking it up a notch with clean-up efforts, that the change in discourse level will be a net 0 change.
But that aside, I also see this as stripping away some level of anonymity. Some of us do not like our mains exposed. I only post on my main when it is relevant to do so like when I am participating in Beta/PTR discussions, class discussions, etc. Otherwise I prefer that particular character to be unknown in the forums.
Mostly though, given the apparent maturity level of some of the people, I do not want stuff from the forums following me into the game. That was the whole reason I created my shadow alt to begin with. A post I made in the original forums pre-Cata resulted in getting some harassment in-game. I can only imagine what it is like for people now. Yes, I am well aware that Blizzard has a multitude of policies, procedures, and tools to correct this but I am a very firm believer in the saying “an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure”.
