I had a post removed asking two questions. It got spammed so it would be label as trolling. I had a legit question about the game and if the change would be implemented to match other current games. I am actual scared at how quick the automated system was just used in a hateful manner. It says the post will be reviewed. How long will that take and will the post be buried right away or have a chance at the top again?
Why? If multiple players reported a thread/post then they would have to manually report it. It is only “automated” in that after a certain number of reports the post is hidden until it is manually checked. Nothing to be scared of.
It depends on how many thread reports the Mods have to do before they get to yours.
Threads don’t get buried. The thread could be hidden or deleted by the Mods. Otherwise it would go to the top of the forum the next time someone posts in it.
So if it gets restored though it won’t be restored to the top? So it could be buried and not seen unless searched for correct? My topic I knew would bring out some of the prejudice players but I am still in shock at how fast it happened. I thought WoW was more progressive these days. *EDIT Also if it doesn’t get restored I am going to be shocked and a little scared. *EDIT Nythhries a forum moderator has unlisted and closed my question. I guess we are not allowed to ask anything about pronouns in WoW forums…
I think flagged posts can still be at the top but the thread i think it is was closed and unlisted.
So idk.
It should be noted that a thread may be reported for any number of reasons, not necessarily hateful ones.
The subject you asked about tends be… triggering… for a lot of people. Both for and against. So it isn’t necessarily that they are against the question, but they are aware of the trolling that the question attracts. The fact that it has been discussed endlessly in multiple threads since the body type options were implemented, many see where the road leads and think it best not to start down it.
It depends on how many other reports are in queue and if a moderator can get to those right away or not.
If the reports are dismissed and thread unhidden, the thread would be bumped to the top again by folks participating in the discussion. Simply because it isn’t, doesn’t mean it isn’t seen.
Overall, absolutely. WoW is. However, the playerbase is a vast amalgamation of people from all walks of life and some have their own views that are not necessarily in sync.
Understand, that while we want to allow players to discuss the game and the various aspects of it with each other, there are certain discussions that tend to drift into negative discussions that prove to be overall unproductive. Though through moderation we try to deal with those who are inappropriate and toxic, sometimes it is best to close a topic entirely then to allow the negative discussions to continue.
I do want to note, Yae, that is it extremely unlikely that you will receive any feedback on a potential game change from anyone other than your fellow players. Our Game Developers and Community Managers tend not to discuss things until/unless they are ready to do so.
Reading through your post history, I rather doubt the legitimacy. But taking you at face value, if you ask a question, you’re going to get responses. There is never a guarantee that those answers will be supportive. This does not make it “spammed” or “trolled”.
As for any change, the Development team considers all suggestions, but isn’t going to individually comment on whether they will or won’t do something. Best thing to do after leaving a suggestion is to watch Developer Q&A’s, or check out what’s happening on the PTR.
First, it’s not automated. If there are enough flags, the post may be hidden. But that final judgement is up to the moderation team. As for hateful, people are not required to agree with your post, nor are they required to flag something in a…friendly? manner. Anyone is allowed to flag a thread, and if Blizzard finds they are targeting someone, that will be dealt with separately.
Thank you for the reply. I also wanted to see what the community thought through friendly debate. But instead just got a abuse of the system and possible moderator Nythhries abusing their power. I hope the rules are updated to say no posts about Pronouns are allowed.
Just stop. Nobody abused anything. You posted a controversial topic, and players flagged it. That’s not abuse, but instead, the actual way the system is intended to work.
The moderator isn’t abusing their power. Their job is to moderate the forums and sometimes that means removing threads that, while they don’t necessarily violate our Code of Conduct, can cause a disturbance.
Technically, the other players who reported the thread aren’t abusing the system either. They felt that the thread was not appropriate or trolling and so reported it for review. The only time that reporting is an abuse is if using multiple accounts to do so.
So no talking about Pronouns on official WoW forums got it. I will make sure people know that going forward…*EDIT Thank you for your time Vrakthris. I hope you understand I am not making a narrative just seeing a trend. Most Duckduckgo and Google searches on any topic matching pronouns return error 404. Even my original post could have been closed and linked to a larger post about about the topic. No need to remove it. I hope you have a great day.
That isn’t the case, Yae, but I’m sure you are fixed on your own narrative there.
Unfortunately, when our moderators get threads about hot button subjects they often have to make a decision on several factors. Like the sincerity of the poster, if the question/discussion is disingenuous and there to troll or cause a disturbance or not.
Good luck to you.
