A couple of days ago I made a post. A few hours later I re-read it and saw that it could be considered trolling so I deleted it. The next day I got a message saying my post was flagged and removed. My question is will I have a strike against me even though I had already deleted it? The offending post says “(post deleted by author)”. Thanks for any insight!

I dont believe theres a black mark unless ur actually penalized.

Generally, the mods can still see the post when its up long enough on their side. Even then, if something was against the rules, removing the post(s) by blanking it out doesn’t make it within the rules. It could be easily abused by folks to troll and the like.

If it was removed, it would just cease to exist. If you’re still seeing a post that says ‘deleted by author’ would tend to indicate that it wasn’t the one that was removed.
As for it being a strike against you, no. The mods can remove non-productive posts without actually penalizing your forum account. If they’ve done that, you should probably take it as a suggestion to reevaluate what your saying and/or how you’re saying it.

Zenjy is correct in that if a post violated policy, which had a moderation report against it, even if the post it edited/deleted by the poster, it is still subject to moderation because it was technically visible to others.
That said, those tend to be clear violations like using inappropriate language, subject matter, etc… We usually wouldn’t penalize a deleted by author post unless it met that kind of threshold.
I should mention that if the post is reported and a Moderator receives that report for review, even if they don’t penalize it, they still have to address the report. This is usually a “Yes, we agree this violated policy” or “No, we disagree, it did not violate policy”.
If we agree, even if we do not apply a penalty that agreement is noted and could impact obtaining Trust level 3, if you receive enough of those. It doesn’t look like you have any strikes thus far, Hissifit, so you should be good.

Do I have any strikes? My purple text suggestion post was removed for being inappropriate after it derailed into a flaming landfill…
You have a couple. As far as I know they decay over time.

Thank you everyone. My post didn’t contain anything inappropriate but it could be considered inflammatory. I’ll be more careful next time. And, Teufelgott, the “deleted” message was what it said in my notice from Blizzard. It’s completely gone now.
