If you are speaking about retail, it’s not explicitly against the rules at this time. It is 100% unsupported, mind you, but there isn’t anything making it against the rules.

Just so it’s covered - the biggest issues you’d be facing as the seller is (a) making sure to keep your advertising ONLY in the Trade Services channel. Nowhere else. Not Trade, not General, not LFG. ONLY Trade Services. And (b) it would be your account at risk if one (or more) of your buyers pay you with illegally gotten gold. So if a random player hands you 300k for a carry, and you distribute that gold to your fellow raid members? Not only do you risk being hit with a RMT sanction, but also anyone else on the receiving end of that gold. You have nothing but that buyer’s say so as to their gold being “legal”.

It’s risky business for a buyer being cheated out of a service they’ve paid for but equally as risky as the seller opening yourself up due to dealing with unscrupulous buyers. That’s why it’s an unsupported practice.

Edit: Found the article in question I wanted to quote.

There are so many possible variations of this I doubt you’re gonna get a one size fits all answer.

For instance, let’s say you’re out adventuring and you find a rare BOE drop, selling that through AH is no problem (it’s supported). Probably selling it in Trade is no problem, except if someone who buys it gives you a large chunk of RMT gold via a lvl 1 mule. Then problems can happen. In some game versions GDKP is banned (for very good reasons), and that is a form of selling items for gold. There is hard reserve and soft reserve and there is currently a Race for World First going on with some BOE’s dropped from the high end raids going for a ton of gold. Sold on the AH, that is no problem. Trading with sus level ones for those, not so smart.

Probably the best answer is use your head. And if in doubt, use the AH.

Thank you for your response! I am referring to retail, not Classic. Also, I really appreciate your explanation about how carry services work. However, my question is specifically about selling loot rather than carrying services.

Thanks for your reply, but I want to ask about BOP instead of BOE.

I’m a derp, forgive me! Most of the time it’s regarding those types of services and my brain leans into that.

Selling something you received as BOP, still falls under that not supported kinda thing. No rules against it, but there is some level of risk involved if illegal gold is involved.

Yep Leilleath is correct from what we’ve seen here.

It’s adjacent to GDKP and Blizz has stated in the classic versions where it is banned that it attracts RMT, among other stuff. So, anything that attracts that type of gold is best to be very careful with. You’re better know who your are running through and trust them not to get gold from shady places.

No one can really answer that question for you, at least not with the information provided, and you’re going into a bit of a grey area. Ultimately it would come down to the server the actual circumstances taking place, if there is dirty gold involved, and if you get reported.

So yes, there is a possibility, and some servers such as SOD/Fresh will have a higher chance.

Retail, Cata classic, Original Classic. Yes

SoD, Classic Fresh. No

Why would it not? They literally have a mount tab in the ah. You either botting or fishing for something. Only way you can get in trouble is taking real money, or selling to someone who sells or buys gold for cash catching you in the ban net.

You can’t trade bop loot unless it’s lower item level than what you have equipped. Otherwise sell it in group all you want. Just remember illicit bought gold traded to you still gonna catch you up at some point

Even then, haven’t there been a few instances of someone posting an expensive item on the AH, someone (likely on a low level) buys it with ‘dirty’ gold, then the low level gets permaban’d and the AH poster gets temp-banned, with the AH poster eventually logging on to discover the gold from that sale was clawed back from them?

Hello, The situation I want to discuss is strictly limited to BoP items dropped in dungeons/raids, such as Spymaster’s Web from the previous patch and Explosive Hearthstone from the current one. As for mounts, an example would be Prototype A.S.M.R. from Chrome King Gallywix, which also cannot be listed on the AH for sale.

Zeroplus, you almost certainly have all the answer you’re gonna get.

It’s unsupported, but not necessarily against the rules. You have to decide if the risk of getting popped (and possibly losing decades old accounts) from RMT gold and/or other stuff is worth the gain.

It’s kinda like the boosting scene. Lotta RMT there, just look at the Services tab. Boosting is also allowed and unsupported and frankly probably not worth the risk.

Good luck.

Idk what to tell you double more o goldo mr roboto am I right? Make that money before you get banned lol

This one specifically is not tradable at all once it’s been looted.

Honestly things like this attract stolen gold and blizzard has been actively banning people for getting gold like that in these type of runs. So I would stay away from this! To many RMT groups will use these to try to launder gold.

Oh my god, I never thought this could possibly help launder gold. Thank you for your suggestion—it was naive of me to overlook that. So I’m planning to change the title and content to remove the post. thank you.

Yes they will get people in these groups, those with gold to spend that is stolen and as many other people as they can to get the gold back. So goes from stolen gold to someone else in attempt to launder it.
