So you won’t object to Tyrande mass-murdering horde since numbers don’t matter?
Not especially, no.
But given her track record in these things I expect her to break a heel, fall down, cry for a bit, and then Malfurion will come comfort her and she’ll be fine again.
In a meta context you are not wrong. In universe though, some group made the decision to use genocide, a word rightfully packed with emotional weight, to describe the events. It can’t be effectively out argued until an official retcon.
The decision was made to place the negative connotations on the Horde players shoulders, and the retaliatory desires on the night elf players. In a meta context, I believe this was wrong. But it happened.
Ultimately I just want to hear why. No dodging, no “it’s not something we take lightly…”, no wait and see. I doubt it’ll ever be answered.
Yeah and in our universe there are people who try to call immigration “genocide,” it’s one of those words that is really popular to misuse and the people who misuse it always feel like the righteous ones.
The reality is that species on Azeroth that are on the absolute verge of extinction have absolutely no qualms about leaping into battle at a moment’s notice, and when they do, suddenly they have a fully-manned army to do it with.
In our world, if a single panda dies, there’s like a 60% chance that the entire species falls into an irrevocable death-spiral of extinction. And there’s like two thousands of those dumb things still lumbering around in the chinese mountains. But there’s no way there can be more than MAYBE, MAAAYBE a few hundred blood elves… .but there they all go charging into battle, war after war after war, and the ranks are always replenished. I mean you notice the Sunreavers are still around and still looking well-staffed despite, you know, Jaina slaughtered an absolute majority of them, right?
Genocide isn’t a working concept on Azeroth.
However, if you take away a letter and go with Geocide, the killing of an entire world, that seems to be very much a reality.
I don’t object to anyone killing anyone in this fictional universe, as long as it leads to better story.
The problem is that it so seldom does. Mostly, as the poster above you noted, it just leads to cartoon logic.
I’ve been sitting here wondering what to write, writing something down and then wiping it.
Because I have no idea how to process this, and I know that in their Writing Dojo they’re busy sniffing their own farts and patting their own shoulders, and I can’t comprehend how anyone can possibly look at this and think that this is worth being called even sub-decent writing. This is a steaming, smelly pile of crap that leaves almost no one satisfied.
Blizzard has never been Tolkien-tier, but they still managed to write a story that captivated millions of people for almost two decades now. What the hell happened?
I don’t think Blizzard has been consistently great writers all the time in the past. What they are good at usually is making compelling settings. Arthas worked in the Star Wars sort of way- It wasn’t this super complex plotline, but it was done in a compelling way. Now I think they have grown too reckless in their writing, stumbling to try to do this Sylvanas mastermind plotline and getting ham fisted with the Horde soul searching to the point of angering everyone.
I find it funny that so many Baine supporters assume that it is desiring peace which is the issue with Baine rather than the fact he acts like Anduin’s lackey and frankly seems more concerned about the Alliance’s interests than the Horde’s. I don’t mind a character who wants peace. I just don’t want one who is a sidekick and lackey of an Alliance leader.
faceless, nameless horde who don’t really exist, while not losing any significant npcs except maybe one who was introduced in the scenario he’s killed in? wouldn’t care and definitely wouldn’t spam the forums about it for months
Look, the Alliance got Baine, but let’s be honest, the Horde’s getting Calia. That alone means the Alliance won the Fourth War/Blood War/Whatever BFA is being called.
No they aren’t. Baine is not and has never been Horde. He has always been a servant of the Alliance. He punished the Horde for defending Horde Sovereign Territory. He told the Alliance it was correct to use “”“neutral grounds”"" of Theramore to siege Horde Sovereign Territory from.
Baine should’ve died in 2,004. Would’ve saved the Horde a lot of grief. Cairne would probably be alive if he didn’t have a son to immediately replace him.
If the Horde does wind up with Calia. But that’s still a big if.
Right now, it’s entirely plausible that the Alliance winds up with Anduin, Baine, and Calia. Oof.
I’m not going to lie: The very real possibility that Alliance Calia takes Lordaeron and the Forsaken are okay with it is a huge fear of mine.
If we are lucky Magatha will come and be the Chieftain.
If we’re REALLY lucky our Bronze Dragon bros will take pity on us and take us to an alternate timeline where we still have most of our characters, Sylvanas included, and WE get to be the heroes!
I asked this before, but does anyone know if Baine actually has dialogue at all? Or is the guy kind of just sitting around the throne room?
I question if this is real at all. After all someone on the team had the Lich King standing with Sylvanas by his side in front of death knights because he was bored or something.
What are you talking about? That’s from their wedding next expansion.
Bolvar and Sylvanas get married and Taelia becomes Lich Princess. She and Sylvanas get off on the wrong foot, but they work through it in hilarious fashion.
Is Nathanos going to be the ring bearer or the flower girl in that situation?
Nathanos is going to be double-Forsaken. He’ll object to the wedding and plea for his Dark Lady to elope with him only for her to laugh and call him Nothing. A warning glare from Bolvar and Nathanos huffs from the proceedings to a bureau where he applies darker makeup while Linkin Park blares in the background.
