Possibly Solved TY BLIZZ! Guild finder not working and New realm can't accept invites

If I get posts here and the other thread , I will keep adding to the list. Hack the Planet, Horde Special Forces, DuskTillDawn and E X A L T E D have been added.

Guild finder seems to be working again! Fingers crossed it’ll stay fixed

Confirming that it works for me now as well. Finally

WOOT WOOT WOOT. Was playing in game and boom notification arrow popped up on guild about 20 minutes ago. Whole list of applicants popped up. TY TY TY TY TY Blizzard !!!.
Tested an alt and can invite ourselves also. But the big one is 30 or so people applied. Now to see what happens when we click them.
TY TY TY TY TY TY TY TY TY TY
Not sure if they did one big fix or doing everyone seperate. Game was wonky for a bit then boom.
Good luck to all getting theirs up. I hope I never have to visit these forums again.
CYA around Happy Wowin.
Kinda interesting that they switched my original poster level 50 Psycho to classic level 36 Psycho? But hey guild finder works .

Forum NOOB here. Seems there was a way to submit a solved icon for this thread. I don’t see it. Do not want to get to hasty but seems they may have solved our issue.

Yup, applicants have shown up for me too. 48 of them. Considering my guild recruitment message specifically said that applications are broken, whisper any guildie, I gotta shake my head at the reading and comprehension skills of these people…

Interesting. I just saw this, and the applicant history is full again with all the ones I had there before that have never joined even after being accepted, and a bunch of new ones that are already approved. My guess is that one of my early morning officers might have approved them all, but I would think he would have told me.

At any rate, I’m excited to see this improvement.

I’m still experiencing the thing where my guild is listed twice in a WoW search, and the 80 something members that are there, but nothing but a blank entry in the (current) roster shows up where they would normally be listed. But the big thing this thread was about seems to be fixed.

Why not just tell us?

Just saw this!!! I am excited to get back in after maintenance and see for myself! TY Blizzard!!!

Also just jumping back in to say it looks like we’re up and running on Frostwolf again! 86 applicants! Happy to see some improvement and hopefully everything stays open and working as intended!

Fixed here too!!! Thanks Blizzard!!!

I too am sideeyeing all the people who applied despite our giant all capslock warning that we couldnt accept applications lolol

Yeah - I’m pretty sure people don’t read our posting either. I make a point of sending in game mail message to all applicants expanding on what sort of guild we are, and unless they respond to that I don’t invite them. I also try and whisper all applicants before inviting.

We’re a mature LGBTQI+ friendly guild. We’ve had bad experiences in the past with kids or younger players joining and trash talking members with unacceptable bigoted speech or being uncomfortable with us being open about our culture in guild chat. It’s better to filter those sorts of people out before they join. Less headaches for everyone, better for them, better for us.

Having a longer text field in the guild posting would be good to better describe guild culture. Being able to specify you require applicants to include a comment when applying would be good - you could include in the posting what information you need in the comment.

Sorta fixed here. I can invite recent applicants (from the bottom of the list)
But any of the old applicants are still clogging up the applicant list and when i try approve/decline their application, i get a message in chat that says they have been invited.
But at the same time i see a red message “Couldn’t respond to applicant. Try again later.” appear in the middle of my ingame screen/GUI and their application remains in the applicant list.

Still have a duplicate guild recruitment post in the in-game guild finder too.

It was fairly tedious, but I ended up taking screenshots of the list of applicants, I then went through and looked up all the characters in the armoury. Back in game I rejected any applicant where the character either wasn’t in the armoury (presumably deleted or renamed), or was a faction change or seemed to have transferred to a different server. That cut my list by a little over a half.

Because I fairly routinely take screenshots of the applicant list, I was also able to check who I had responded to previously (quite a few I had messaged back in July and not heard back from). So I know who are ‘new’ applicants and who are older ones.

My intention is to message all the applicants using in game mail saying something along the lines of: We just got access back to the applicant list after a long standing bug that prevented us from seeing the list, if you are still interested please respond to this message in the next 7 days or I will reject the application, if your application is deleted and you are still interested, please reapply.

Having longer text fields in the in-game bug reporting tool would be great too!

Nod - I get that it’s a database issue, in typical database design there are only a handful of different default field lengths for a text field and the bigger the field the more storage required.

It seems like they use TINYTEXT by default, with has a character maximum of 255 characters (there is a similar limit on macros), the next step up is TEXT which has a character maximum of 65,535 characters. Obviously the difference between the two is huge on storage requirements and opens the door for people posting terrible things in the space made available (not that they can’t in the shorter space, but they can get really creative in the longer). Using VARCHAR would allow them to have a longer string (65,535) but cap it as something a little shorter - say 500 or 1,000 characters. But it can have a bigger performance impact on the server than using a simple TEXT type field.

I know they make these decision for good technical reasons and I honestly can’t fathom the amount of data they are having to manage.

Looks like Guild Finder seems to be working for my guild on Burning Blade again after realms came back up this afternoon!

Logged in and BAM! Applications and App History no longer grayed out and full of applicants.

Still bug testing to make sure it’s fully functional, If I notice anything wonky I’ll make sure to post.

Last few days it seems to be working well. New applicants received / accepted / and are joining.-----------

I just made a new guild today and it seems like I can only get my own alts invitations to work. I send them to someone else, they fill out the application, and it never shows up. same thing if they find my guild through the guild finder. they fill out the app and I never get it.

Wow. Here I thought people just didn’t want to join my guild. How would I even know if someone I didn’t know filled out an application from the finder? Worse, how do they know I never got it? They might think I’m just blowing them off.

Please get this working properly, Blizz.

There are some weird communication issues since the merge. I have had many people unable to whisper me, nor me them (player not found). can’t even find them using /who. If you have several people online in your guild, try /who [guild name]. In my case, I have 21 people online right now, and if I do /who corrupt, I get 7 results. The missing people span all the merged servers, including mine.
