What is the best way to learn good positioning? This is my first season trying to seriously play arena and I am having a blast, I know I have a lot of improvements to make but positioning seems to be my weakest area. Anyone have any tips?
hug pillar
find a high rated streamer for the class you play and try to mimic where they stand/use cooldowns
positioning is really complex and kind of difficult to go over in text but as an example
as a caster dps getting hit by double melee you’ll want to move them into a spot that forces their healer to leave their pillar so a teammate can get cc
I’d need some examples and to see how (and where) you play but I can attempt to give some general advice!
Generally, you’ll want to los cc when it looks like you’ll be cc’d so you’ll stick to pillars, but a major mistake some healers make is that they’ll sit pillar and mend spam and not commit to pushing out for cc’d (that is covered by their dps) in 2s and 3s.
When you do push out for a fear, things to potentially look out for is: do they have trinket? Will they want to trinket your fear and immediately fear you? Will your fear be impactful or is your dps being pummeled and you’re getting 0 pressure with your fear?
Also, if you push out for fear, you can prepare to pop death if a rogue is looking to blind you, or you’re about to get rep’d/poly’d/etc.
Best way to find out is to look at your positioning in a game relative to your (one or two) dps via a recording and look at how you position yourself.
this pmuch, there’s a lot of reasons why you’d want to be at position x and move to position y or to stay at position z etc.
Position away from enemies that cc you. Position where you can be in line of your partner. If you play with a caster your caster should be in between the enemy healer and enemy dps while you’re next to a pillar avoiding cc from enemy. If you play with a melee you want to push in with your partner but still be close to a pillar so you wont be cc bombed. If you have a cc and your partner is setting up you can push in for a fear or even mc to help secure kills.
