Yup. 2700 queue on the nose at 3:30PM last night and not in until 9PM. I assume the one intern in charge of Classic’s entire operations looks up from his colouring book at 6PM Californian time and says “yup she’s empty”. Whatever action is taken should have been taken not a day after Good Friday and here we are a week later and only just disabled transfers in. Although anybody that transferred in the past week is clearly an idiot.
I’ve been really pessimistic that we could find a treatment for COVID19 any time soon. But I’m hoping the following promising news about Remdesivir turns out to be true:

This is nothing but a kick in the teeth from blizzard.
You need to add Fairbanks to the list,
Last two weeks an 60-123 minute queue times.
How is it a kick in the teeth?
The did not invent the pandemic which is causing the drastic elevation in queue times, which more importantly causes some people to do unpleasant things like die.
It isn’t like game companies go about designing systems for the occurrences of such things.
And the other thread about layering would seem to show that they are looking at solutions, which may not be as easy as normally to implement as i imagine they are all having to try to do this all remotely from home also.

When I returned to WoW after 12 years to play Classic… I specifically chose a Medium population server (Benediction) to avoid player queues and other high population issues. To see Blizzard repeat the same mistake they did with Incendius… to see my server ruined with 3 hour queues every day is upsetting to me.
Blizzard needs to implement faction and population balance enforcement on all servers.
Seeing as though you’ve worked in the industry you’d have to agree not having scalable infrastructure on such a large project / playerbase is just plain lazy in 2020.
It’s also hard to believe they would’ve scrubbed the layering code since release so It’s also hard to understand why this hasn’t been put in place to alleviate some of the queues. Or at the very least an increase to realm caps (like those “lucky” 3 realms) or even something like a faction based queue.
a t2.large AWS cloud can hold a server of 10k people. this is what? 800~ USD a month? There’s 20k players at least on Arugal. I’m sure the 300k+ USD they’re making a month in subscriptions probably merits a “throw money at it solution”.
Also their 30% increase in stock price over the last 2 weeks clearly shows extra normal profits. so maybe stop milking it and actually provide us with a 2020 service.
Classic is no doubt a key-turn operation about maxing profits.
Time to put your money where your mouth is Blizzard. Especially after all the good will you’ve lost over the last 12 months

Many people are transitioning into a semi permanent wfh state. Many WoW players are students, who will not be back in school for the next ~5 months.

You can not put an unlimited amount of people into a non instanced gameworld, and that is exactly what walking around the open world in WOW is, one big non instanced sameness, only the dungeons and raids are discreet entities.
It does not matter how much money you throw at it, WoW’s open world is not highly compartmentalized.

Secondly, the game world itself is not built to take on 20k even if it magically worked tech wise, you could literally forget people even playing for a giant list of reasons that they would be most happy to post here about, those “lucky” 3 realms are already running at about the max population density the world itself can accommodate, the people on it do not exist in a vacuum, they have to function and play inside that environment.
As for the layering code, of course they did not throw it away.
But as for what disabling it entailed, i have no idea, nor do i know what is entailed in putting it back in place or what they can and can not accomplish easily in their present work situation.
There is no reason to make any permanent changes to mitigate population control.
Population is extremely inflated based on zg release and corona. In a couple weeks the high, full, locked will be down to their normal, smaller populations. However if you have felt the itch to start over, a free transfer is the perfect time. No need to ever farm brd, ubrs, scholo, etc, turning 60, you can join your guildies in ZG, ony, and mc right away.
ok now do the same thing for herod and disallow xfers there.
queues start at 1pm and are 5+ hours. get a grip
