Turns out I’m just a dummy. After struggling with this for months some of the comments below helped me figure out that I had some bartender issues going at the center of my screen with a few characters. So far it seems to have fixed my issues. after a few rounds of fighting across a couple characters. Thank you all!
I’m sure its an addon issue, but I’ve turned them all off and still not fixing the issue. Seems like every other time I click toward the center of the screen either to interact with an object or use my mouse to turn while in a fight it is not working. For example if I click the mouse to turn the camera my pointer just moves across the screen until I click it again to grab the screen and make the turn. When interacting with an object at the center of the screen the pointer does not change to interact or loot or whatever is at the center of the screen. If I click a second or third time it will work. Does anyone have any experience with this? And, does anyone have any suggestions? It started with one character and now it is doing it across all of my characters.
First of all, try disabling all your add-ons to see if it persists. If it still does, uninstall then reinstall your mouse driver to make sure it’s not the problem.
Could be a hidden popup. Turn off any game overlays from Windows and Discord.
Turn over your mouse and make sure there’s no little hairs or schmutz stuck in the laser bit, give it a good brisk shoosh with some canned air or, in a pinch, just blow in it.
Make sure no keyboard keys or mouse buttons are stuck down, including the scroll wheel.
See if it happens in other games/applications, or if it’s just WOW.
If you have a spare mouse or one from another computer, try it out temporarily and see if the problem persists.
It’s worth a mention that when my mouse randomly stopped accepting clicks and interactions in the game even though the mouse still moved, it turned out the mouse was dying. Getting a new one fixed it right up.
I’ve been dealing with this issue on and off for months now. It’s been reported as a bug particularly with wireless mouses - Logitech brand I believe. I have a corded mouse and it still happens, with or without addons.
Edit: Sec, let me see if I can find the old post about this topic.
You can type in \framestack to see if there’s an add-on frame blocking the middle of the screen. I know I had a similar problem with AtlasLoot in 9.0.1.
Thank you for your suggestion. I did disable all of them and the problem persisted. With the mouse driver issue, it doesn’t happen in other games like wotlk. ( I just leveled a DK for the mount) and no issues. This problem started on one of my alts and then it started happening on all of my other characters gradually.
This was the post I was thinking of… I didn’t realize it was so dated. Best to do whatever you can to troubleshoot on your end and then pop up a notice to support.
Something to remember is that simply disabling them from the in-game configuration does not prevent them from actually loading. They do still load, but are simply not executed. To completely disable the addons you need to move the /Interface folder out of the WoW folder entirely. This also has the added bonus of forcing the game to rebuild the built-in addons that Blizzard bakes into the game, which is good because those can become corrupt just as easily as a regular addon can become out of date or broken.
Thanks! Mine’s actually a Corsair and I do have to ensure that I’m keeping the driver up to date. The last few weeks I just haven’t been playing much so I don’t know if it’s still an issue. I was too tired to troubleshoot it as the semester got rolling.
Actually useful to know. I forgot about that. Pretty sure I have some basic default stuff that’s a bit broke and causing errors sometimes. I’ll have to remember to give that a try later, rename the folder, login again, and copy it over and don’t over-write to try and reset the base stuff. Thanks for that!
