Is this a problem for anyone else that is on another server? It is INSANELY laggy in Stormwind on Moon Guard, to the point where there is a 5-10 second delay on anything that you do. It is a struggle to roleplay, to do the event quests, and it is such a drag.
Older cities and zones on RP realms don’t have sharding, so this is why there’s lag. Roleplayers decided that they’d deal with the lag, because they didn’t want to be split up into different shards for socializing reasons and for events.
There’s really not much Blizz can do there. You could try turning off most addons to see if it helps at all. Just leave TRP on and nothing else.
I have only TRP and still got some lag.
It’s because it’s the first day of the valentine’s event most likely.
Wyrmrest Orgrimmar is just fine. This is a MG thing.
That’s because WrA is dead now compared to MG.
I never have any lag in Stormwind. All my characters are on Moon Guard. And also, General Discussion isn’t the best place to put this topic. Try one of the other forums, in tech support or bug report.
It’s not a bug, nor is it really a technical support issue. OP was asking for a change on how sharding works. Feedback usually goes here. They aren’t asking for tech help.
Though I do believe they should delete their cache folder and try a UI reset.
I believe it’s settings/ system/storage/ temporary files on windows 10.
Click on the temp file slider to see a list of stuff you can delete , read them carefully. It usually gets rid of my lag issues.
Stormwind is the most highly-populated area on the largest RP realm (I think it is, anyway). RP realms do not have layering in the capitals and hubs because that is necessary for a lot of RP. The entire realm is together in one city, and trust me…you don’t want that to get messed with.
But the reality is that literally 2 or 3 out of every 4 characters on that realm are located in the city of Stormwind at any given point.
It’s gonna have some lag from time to time.
They can shard lol
SW has no sharding, and the start of the month for the trading post, combined with roleplayers, combined with the Love is in the Air stuff, it’s wayyyyy too much atm.
It’s really not a complex thing, this is server lag, not client lag.
Can’t say I ever lag in SW or Dorn on MoonGuard.
It could also just be player concentration due to the holiday stuff.
No other normal servers have sharding in Stormwind. Everytime they shard in Stormwind on Moonguard you have people crying about RP. I would play that server but I just can’t stand their policy. Too many times I can’t do anything because of lag in SW.
Well that is what it is now but they surely should be able to set up a system that automatically kicks sharding in when there are high volumes instead of turn it on and off manually like they appear to do.
It doesn’t. I run no addons and still get obnoxious lag in Stormwind most of the time. Why don’t the RPers go RP in other cities? They’re just RPing. Ironforge and Exodar are awesome cities. Leave Stormwind (and Orgrimmar?) for people who are playing the game and using the portal rooms and other amenities that you don’t need for RP.
Idk if it’s worth the resources since it tends to be very temporary. It’s day 1 as well. The crowds will die down quick enough.
Quick Edit. I am here right now on one of my MG toons. It’s pretty calm right now, probably due to the hour. But still, just shows how temporary the crowds are in these spots.
the holiday event is for 2 weeks - people will be there for that entire time doing quests unless they changed it from previous years.
I only saw 3 dailies and they take you away from the area.
We shall see if the problem persists.
Currently there are more people in dornogal than sw or the holiday area
Last time I tried to play on SW during an event I couldn’t even pickup quests the lag was so bad. I just barely play that server anymore. And yes at 3 am which is what it is on that server now it probably isn’t busy.
I’ll try to check it out prime time tomorrow and see how busy it is. I normally afk in sw anyway.
Sometimes zone lag due to people is nice because it shows how active and how much people are participating.
Like the d4 event during DF was nuts. Quite literally took a full minute for a single cast to register from hundreds upon hundreds of people going for the poor goblin.
If we delete Moon Guard, it will be fixed!
Love is in the Air + Lunar New Years and Darkmoon.
