Please stop the gimmicks and focus on the Retail WoW game

They just released another Panda movie, so those jokes are valid again.

This exactly! Some of the negative responses are actually a little disheartening. There are plenty of valid things to complain about with Blizzard and WoW, but the fact they’re keeping the game alive in the traditional MMO drought cycle with new ideas is really cool.

Yep. People keep forgetting there’s ALWAYS a pre-expansion lull and Blizzard’s actually addressing the lull by giving us something, and the forums are still crying.

Shadowlands gave us fated.

Dragonflight is giving us awoken AND timerunning (I’m not counting Plunderstorm because I’m guessing it’ll end on 10.2.7’s release and not take us to TWW, I could be wrong though)

They said in an interview (I think it was with IGN) that they might bring Plunderstorm back as a reoccurring event alongside whatever else they come up with. They also said they want to experiment and build a collection of these seasonal events they can pull out during lulls in the patch cycle.

So, we’ll probably see a “Plunderstorm Season 2” or something with a new set of cosmetics to grind for.

Say whatever you want, but these ‘gimmicks’ and the variety of content has kept me subbed and logging in, and I’m sure many other agree. Plunderstorm was a riot & I can’t wait to try out this new Remix mode they’ve got cooking. I don’t see why players like you are allergic to something different, especially during the typical ‘content lull’ at the end of an expansion.

Are your memories so short that you forget the YEAR we spent in 5.4?

If you want World of Warcraft at it’s barest of bones, Classic is available for you right now.

Agreed it only took them 3 expansions. SL had a lot more problems than flying.

I never said flying was only reason. The game is bloated. (my original point) I said the war on flying happened around the time, blizzard started down the direction to a bloated game. As stated above.

We’re getting all of that instead of absolutely nothing which is what we would have gotten any other expansion. Also, do we really need just more boring events that give transmog like Azerothian Archives?

What I will agree with you though is that I am bummed they have the time to do all these events but won’t take the time to improve the new player experience

I’d argue the opposite, actually. Shooting in the dark absolutely! But doing so to see what might and might not work that they can add to retail in the future to make it more sustainable.

So far they’re giving quite a bit of what players have been asking a long time for (albeit I’ll concede so far it’s arguably lackluster):

Revisiting pvp
New ways to get rewards
Making old content relevant again
New activities that’s not another “rare island”
Adding vendors for cosmetics
Currency for those vendors people can grind for instead of rely on RNG
Innovation!

And that’s just a few examples from Plunderstorm and what to expect with Timerunning! I’d personally say it’s too early to say they’re shooting themselves in the feet just yet, when trying to figure out what their long game looks like. Just my opinion :dracthyr_love_animated:

I gotta say it’s a bit of a pet peeve when gimmicks like SoD get more dev attention than basically all other versions of the game combined :joy:

Bugs and glitches in SoD are fixed promptly, there are weekly hotfixes/balance passes, and a frequent flurry of Blue-posts left and right…

Meanwhile the main game seems to gets a fraction of that dev attention, it’s kinda eye-opening when you compare the two… SoD basically gets “24/7” dev attention and hotfixes galore - usually within 72 hours, while on the other hand battlegrounds (for example) in retail get no attention for literally years at a time

Lmao, then I guess alcohol isn’t addicting since not everyone who drinks it is an alcoholic.

Notice how we’re only getting this stuff at the end of the expansion? Instead of, y’know, what they previously did at the end of the expansion which was exactly nothing for an entire year. The sky is falling!!

Well if they’re “shooting in the dark” they’ve hit a perfect shot with Remix!

I guess game development hasn’t evolved in the last 10 years, huh? /s

I do expect this to happen but I wonder if they’ll make previous rewards obtainable somehow

In the case of shadowlands, no. No it does not count

Reminds me of how Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro absolutely destroyed itself with Magic The Gathering last year. They launched gimmick after gimmick and flooded the market was crap. Recently they are pumping out trash for DnD.

OP is totally correct. This is short term thinking to keep people subbed. If the next expansion sucks it’s going to be a rough couple of years with more of this garbage.

Quality over quantity please!

I remember the barrens chat being a temple to chuck Norris.

It’s the end of the season. What a better time to bring out things to test and continue player retention than going back and trying new things? Personally very good marketing strategy.

MOP Remix is honestly so hype. I for one am going to take off work for it when the dates get announced. MOP was where i have my best memories, next to legion. Still sad to hear that CM sets wont come back V.V but still excited nonetheless.

Can’t wait to hear more soon.
