Please stop making Mail armour ugly

Like, here is the thing. What about that armor says “Mail” to you? I won’t argue if it looks good or if it does not look good because that’s a subjective point but what parts of that armor looks like “Mail”?

I think that the Kyrian Mail set looks good, it has a real “Banded Mail” look to it but at the same time I could confuse it for Plate also with how much “Mail” textures are used in Plate sets.

I think its a good looking set, with a lot of good recolors, but is it a good “Mail” set. The problem I have is that Mail has an identity crisis as it feels like Plate ends up getting a lot of the good looking Mail textures.

For example, take a look at this still incomplete Ravendreth armor set.

At a glance, what armor type is that? For me, I would have said “OH! That’s clearly Mail Armor, look at the scales and what have you paired with the cloth/leather!”

Its actually part of the Plate set.

I feel like the different armor types bleed over a bit too much from one armor to the next in some weird places. Yeah, there are certainly sets you can look at and immediately go “Yep, that’s X Armor alright” but there are plenty more that you just look at and go “Wait, that’s Y Armor???”

Yeah that dude looks like a Paladin. I wouldn’t have know it was a mail set if you wouldn’t have told me.

I will be honest I just want them to stop using metal lining on EVERYTHING! And to put the metal lining they do use into the same shades. Right now we have 500 versions of gold and it’s driving my OCD nuts.

Right? While its technically “Banded Mail” with the square plates of metal connected together, there has been so much cross bleeding between the armor types that its getting harder and harder to, at a glance, say “This is X or Y armor type!”

For me its not as much an argument of “Does it look good?” more as an argument of “Does it fit the Armor Type?”

yeah…I was just thinking that a lot of leather armor is horrible, lol
Most of my mail armor from early expansions is pretty good. Its the leather mogs that is hozen rump ugly.

I think it depends on the race too.
I havent found anything yet that looks bad on a female panda. Even the garbage mogs look fine.
But only certain things look good on my male panda and male tauren.
And I cant find anything that looks like it was made for a forsaken.
My poor undead characters just cant find anything on the rack that looks good :frowning:

That’s why we got transmogs, there is good looking Mail armour.

But some may think this looks good, depends on the player.

Yeah, that’s fair. I just kind of ignore armor typing and if it actually fits the material and rather go “oh, that looks really sick, am i allowed to wear that?” Definitely doesn’t look “mail” but I think it just looks cool and to me that matters far more.

Yes it is. I wish you could say the same for every other mail set though.

Have you seen the horde mail “blightguard” set from darkshore and elite pvp?

it actually is a chainmail shirt

… that hurts you know :frowning:

retake that same picture from the side.

Still looks fine to me.

No, that hat does not look fine. Ugh.

The thing that hurts about me switching to a mail user is that i cant wear my current mog.

yep, exactly what I thought. it’s ugly. at least they angled the necklace in a bit unlike the older models

Blizz, just let me tmog leather

The life of a Worgen is hard man, so far this is the best I could do and im not too happy with it.

For worgen and tauren and a few others I just have perma hide helm at this point

Does mail still jingle while you run

Hat looks really goofy but compared to other worgen helms it’s not too bad. I wouldn’t just hide helm like usual with it. Don’t think you’d see much of a completely side view of your character anyways most of the time, as long as it looks good enough from most angles I’m good with it.

As a Shaman main, you’d think I would agree.
Everyone knows Mail gets it bad.

But for Shadowlands I am actually pleasantly surprised with mail.
I’m waiting to see the finished Hight Fae set, all we’ve seen so far is a low textured one with no helm.

Personally I think leather has gotten it the worst with the new sets.
It’s hard to make a set that will look good on Druid, DH and Rogue though.
