Please start handing out permanent silences

Its really the internet in general. Individual websites/games might have word police, but its a losing battle.

Accept that free speech will expose you to things you don’t like, and use /ignore when you have to. Really though, we need a much bigger ignore list.

I-Is that a challenge?

OP go download Global Ignore list addon itll let you ignore a player on just one alt and once muted the addon syncs your entire acct so you don’t have to reignore them on alts and the best part is unlike the ingame ignore list it has no 25 name limit you can keep adding bots trolls and raid sellers infinitely if you wish and they also don’t unmute when you toon hop either trust youll be glad you had this one addon

I think sexism and racism are becoming more subjective, I mean I live in Australia so it was Australia Day yesterday, but while among most of my friends it’s Happy Australia Day no issue, and always has been, it is nevertheless a divisive topic and some people these days have a stereotype that if you so much as wave an Australian flag, let alone wrap yourself in one, you are this racist freak trying to preserve whiteness in our country.

Personally I am not sure I agree with that assessment, that to me there is a huge difference between racism and nationalism.

So the difficulty with censoring people in this way, is that where do we draw the line between people simply expressing their opinion and not condoning outright censorship?

Like I will be honest, sexism at the beginning of this century meant that you thought that cooking was a woman’s job, and she belonged in the kitchen barefoot and…well you get the picture. But these days, if you so much as make what some people perceive to be a micro-aggression you are seen as a sexist. Now I am not saying that we shouldn’t take a step back and challenge our thoughts and beliefs from time to time, what I am saying is that all the polls in the Western world have suggested that most people do feel that political correctness has gone a little too far.

I mean without knowing your story OP and what was said, I can’t say what I think, but be honest with me, was as extreme as what I said earlier in this post, or was it a little more subtle then that?

If it’s any consultation I find trade chat what ever compared to the forums because we can’t ignore people only mute, and then they hop an alt like a split personality to either try to make their side seem more numerous or simply to troll you

yep.

no more silly than any of the other things which people choose to get upset over.

…not really the purpose of ignore.

…but the “victims” sure do

or maybe, the people who want to discuss body parts could act like adults.

So what we do nothing and just life in filth? Even as someone who’s partaken questionable RP I don’t want that trash in general channels. People ARE going to be trashy but let them do it in private channels.

To me it is just words. My perspective on it is that. So yes, live in “filth” of words.

That stuff has no place in trade chat or the forums. I know there was a guy making cruel threads about it in GD the other day. Thankfully he either deleted it himself or mods took care of it.

Um okay so what’s wrong with talking about that illness that’s going around the world atm?

oh no what have i done

Doesn’t blacklist do this? Does this addon still exist? I feel old now. :disappointed:

Well, I doubt it was the same person you were talking about. Quite simply it 1) has nothing to do with WoW and 2) has no place in trade which is for the dissemination of memes and occasionally mentioning goods one has placed in the AH.

There’s twitter if you really feel the need.

On my old server there was a guy that would say the most outrageous stuff all the time in trade chat - it was truly disgusting. Couldn’t even put him on ignore because he would name change every other day so everyone could hear him anew. Never got banned either.

a name change doesn’t remove someone from your ignore list…

No permanent silences or bans. We’re all just going to have to employ our very own built-in ignore feature.

They cant police everything but they need to at least give a 15 minute silence if you are reported even once.

:man_shrugging: i don’t know how they did it, but I always was finding myself putting him on ignore. Same dk, same gear, same position in the guild and always getting off ignore somehow.

Not to break it to you, but there’s this handy feature called /ignore for individual players that works forever and prevents grouping if you want it, and as for reports, well generally the most benign stuff goes all fine, but if someone uses personal attacks or highly vitrolic real life crime language, i’ve seen people get muted for that for days or a week though and then shut up about the stuff before lol. People pay for subs in wow and a month mute i guess blizzard figures would probably get a unsub or person being a unhappy customer, a day or a week mute keeps them having to come back.
