I do old dungeons/timewalking to level my alts. Natuarally I queue for random dungeon because of the bonus xp. Dungeon runs normally take 10 mins or less and awards very good xp, I have gone up 3 levels in a 10 min run. Every so often Old Hillbrads pops up. This dungeon sucks because it is a story mode so it is impossible to speed run. For some weird reason it comes up a lot for me, and I have noticed as soon as I enter, the tank and half the grp will leave, sometimes cursing as they leave. Lately I have been doing the same, taking the deserter penalty. It also sucks because sometimes teh queue is 30 minutes long only to get Old Hillsbrad dungeon. Considering how most people hate this, I think Blizzard should remove this and other stories dungeons from the random queue and let people that want to run those queue for them specifically for them. What do you guys think?
Old hills rad is fantastic! Its practically soloable even when time walking.
There is no rule for how long a dungeon should take, nor any indication that they are designed for speed levelers.
The dungeon is fine. Dungeons outside of Mythic+ are not supposed to be done fast via speed running. You can do them faster if you want to, but they’re not designed for that.
You can completely avoid Hillsbrad Foothills by not doing TBC via Chromie Time or doing TBC Timewalking.
I liked old hillsbrad.
Not every dungeon needs to be a zerg fest.
Maybe “this dungeon sucks” was not the best choice of words . The dungeon itself is not bad, but it’s not great when you’re trying to speedrun it. My suggestion is a win-win for everyone. People who think Old Hillsbrad is fantastic can still run it. Those who do not like speedruns can also enjoy it by queuing specifically for it. However, based on my experience, the majority would rather not do it, which is why people always leave when it comes up. In every dungeon I do when I queue, groups fly through them. Tanks pull 3 to 4 groups at a time. You can’t do that with Old Hillbrad. Having leveled several alts in the last few months, I can say I speak for the majority on this, as it is constantly my experience.
This is not really win-win. Most people do random queue for the extra goodies. You do not get the extra goodies with specific queues. If Old Hillsbrad got removed from the random queue, it’d probably just about not see daylight again. People are already spread out through Chrome Time, there’s no guarantee there’ll be enough folks hitting the specific queue for it.
“Remove one of the most important narratives in the game from general use”
No.
I’m pretty sure rather than queuing for random dungeons you can choose specific ones, select all boxes EXCEPT Hillsbrad.
It’s not really a win/win.
Again, you can simply avoid Old Hillsbrad if you want to level fast via dungeons. Do non-timewalking dungeons during TBC timewalking on your alts. Or, if you must do TBC timewalking, just leave Hillsbrad when it pops up. Sure, the deserter debuff hurts you for a bit, but you can work around that by levelling up via questing (which can actually be faster than dungeons depending on what zones you’re doing).
Three hour BRD sessions would like a word with you.
People leave because some players click on thrall to start the jailbreak scenario before " everybody’ acquires the quest from him.
World quests proc automatically , but for some very super annoying reason, Thrall’s quest still doesn’t.
Fair enough, if this forum is a sample of the WoW community, then I guess Bliizard should just leave things the way they are. But I wonder how many of you are actually leveling alts, because what you guys are saying is not what I am seeing as I have been leveling multiple alts in the past couple of months.
I would also say a win/win solution might be to have storied dungeons separate from the random queue and let them reward extra goodies, so that people who love the stories can queue for them. The extra incentive would motivate people to run them. Then leave the non-storied dungeons for people trying to level alts. Anyways, I appreciate all the feedback!!!
General discussion is a weird place. Most here are contrarian for no reason, if you made a topic that said you loved old hillsbrad those same people would say “nah this dungeon is terrible OP”
Yeah, I was a bit surprised by the responses here. This morning alone, Old Hillsbrad came up at least 3 times, and in all those instances, the tank left, along with one or two other people. In one of them, I wasn’t even timewalking in BC but got the “taking too long” message and decided to search other dungeons.
You can open the LFD menu and remove it as an option.
You can, but you lose out on the bonus xp, and the goodie bags from the random queue if you queue for specific dungeons.
The majority of xp from doing dungeons comes from the bonus for random queues. You get so little xp from the dungeon itself, it would not be worth it to do this. You would level a lot faster doing Old Hillsbrad through random queues than you will if you queue specific and exclude Old Hillsbrad. It would still be faster even if you get only Old Hillsbrad from random queues from level 10-60.
Everyone’s experience is different. Not that I’ve run the dungeon a lot, but I’ve run it at least atleast 10 times and have only ever had 1 person leave.
I just don’t understand the point of taking a 30 min deserter debuff to avoid doing a 15 min dungeon over a 10 min dungeon. OHB goes so quickly when people just mount up, mass pull the bottom area, and blast through the keep. Is it longer than other dungeons? A little, but its not so long that it’s worth a wasted queue and 30 minutes of deserter
And Black Morass.
Its not even that much longer then other dungeons the only part the sucks is thrall going slower then walking on his horse.
