Please reconsider shoehorning specs into 0/1/2 pets

I thought this was the era of Player Choice; why are y’all making this very weird decision to take away choices for hunters?

I already stopped playing my BM hunter because I don’t want to have two pets out, and you’ve made it impossible to have only one and be at all viable; now I will have to stop playing my marks hunters who have only ever played with their pets?

I don’t want to have two pets. I don’t want to be a lone wolf. I just want to shoot a bow with my one pet out, like I have for the last eighteen years. (EDIT: Thank you to all trying to tell me about the proposed BM changes, but if you read the last paragraph of this post, you’d see that I already got that memo)

I am a roleplayer, and changes this big will make some of my characters unplayable, because it’s just not who they are. These choices are breaking my heart.

I read that you’re trying to give us solo pets with BM again, and that’s great! But my marks hunters love their pets, and also their abilities. And as for me, I love the playstyle of Marks, but I don’t like being a petless hunter. Please, please reconsider. You’ve learned that enough BM players prefer to have only one pet - remember that when you think about Marks. We’ve never had our pets fully taken away, and we are frustratingly bonded with those bundles of pixels. Leave us the choice.

Did you look at new bm talents ?

like 99% of the mm hunters here are complainin about having to use pets, and MM has been ± petless for >years<

I prefer to have two tbh

feel like im taking crazy pills when all of the sudden MM players are complaining that they get a pet free lust + mortal wounds

All of that is awesome.

The issue is there are things that arent raid and M+ where I use my pet all the time - open world, delves, soloing rares, farming cinder bees, once gear is better trying to solo world bosses, soloing last tier content - removing pets from MM takes away how Ive been doing that for literally 20 years.

The only thing removing the pet does is nerf solo play for MM. It basically means if I want to do that stuff I now have to change to a spec I dont want to play.

The whole problem with Lone Wolf was it was a buff for not having pet out but our utility needed the pet out - all they had to do was remove the utility and bake Lone Wolf into the MM spec.

If they did that then in dungeons, raids, m+, etc where you dont have a pet out and never get a pet out nothing changes vs any of the new stuff. Having pet out you lose 5% damage but still have the pet for open world stuff.

It would solve all the same problems and not remove any choices or gameplay options.

Edit: OK just noticed this which I completely missed the first time around:

  • New Talent: Solitary Companion – Your pet damage is increased by 35% and your pet’s size is increased by 10%. Choice node with Animal Companion.
    • Developers’ notes: Our vision for Beast Mastery’s fantasy is tied to Animal Companion, but for players who would like to opt-in to solo-pet Beast Mastery, this talent should allow you to enjoy that playstyle with only a marginal throughput loss. We’ve taken some initial steps to ensure that this talent doesn’t dramatically increase the throughput of spells like Call of the Wild and we’ll be making changes as necessary if issues arise.

Id still rather not be forced into BM and my opinion above still applies but this is an acceptable compromise I guess.

I dont know about BM, theyre adding something like Single Minded Fury that War Fury has to make one pet viable?

I wouldn’t have a problem with the no pet thing if this dumb hawk was our actual pet but it just doesn’t attack like bm/sv, and does this marking thing they’re trying out

Just feels weird to have a random hawk all of a sudden instead of the pets i’ve had for 20 years. If they change that part i’m on board with the redesign

They’re adding a single pet option that increases its damage and size as a choice node with animal companion
it’s supposedly almost the same damage as AC

In PVP as MM, I cant wait to have BETTER pet utility and stonger MS, without micromanaging a pet. No longer will some of my utility be stuck in CC or killed.

lone wolf and dark ranger for survival please

Honestly don’t hate that, as long as we’re given a choice. That could be a really neat character, a totally lone survivalist.

The problem here is not really with the directions they want to take things, but with the lack of choice we have about it. If they could do this MM change, but offer folks the choice to keep our pet instead, it would make a huge difference.

They are making the same mistake they made in the Legion pre-patch.

That part is a good change. But why take away the pet? Just put those into the main class abilities and everything would be fine. I don’t want to lose my pet and I’ve hated BM my entire time in wow.

because the pet existing for MM makes the spec really awkward to design around.

they do the sensible thing and make 0 talents or abilities that interact with the pet and then its like “well why do I have a pet”. they dont have a pet and then after 10 years of people complaining to remove the pet and suddenly its “I want to play a ranger with 1 pet but I dont want to play bm”

They should have made a Ranger class back in Legion. They still need to make a Ranger class. This is the second time they’ve stripped a spec away from me so they could try and squeeze a Ranger class fantasy into the Hunter class.

TWW seems like a test expansion with the number of reworks they’re doing and how they’re changing hero talent trees so often. I’d rather the rest of the expansion play out with minimal player intervention relative to changes and then they allow more player feedback rolling into midnight.

The pet change is kind of odd given how easy it is to just leave /call pet and add a 10% damage nerf when its out. But as for all the other stuff they’re shifting/playing with; I’d prefer if we had one dumpster expansion with awkward class mechanics shifting every major patch, in hopes that they can use more prolonged feedback to have a great future. Instead of just making mild changes every other patch for 3 expansions in a row.

There’s no telling what the talent trees are going to look like after last titan, they could be shaping up to have just general and hero trees with the base specs being removed. I mean whatever it is, if its anything major there’s going to be periods between where the fantasy isn’t 100% fulfilled both in terms of past iteration and future implementation.

They could just do what they’re doing, build all the utility into the base spec, and then make the pet optional. Hell, make it a reverse line wolf where you get a damage decrease with a pet out if people are so upset about line wolf for some reason. Just don’t get rid of the choice of having the companion out.

Can’t comment on having 1 pet for BM be viable but for 11.1 it is something that is now a choice node with animal companion without sacrificing alot. It might still end up being behind but prob not as much.

there’s something ironic about people who play pet MM saying that they refuse to play 1 pet BM because it’s not optimal

Hunter really has become a fascinating class to recommend to people.

Yeah so play hunter if you

a) like range
b) like melee

and

Play hunter if you

a) like pets
b) REALLY like pets
c) don’t like pets at all actually

I don’t want to play 1 pet BM because I don’t like the BM gameplay loop, and I want the majority of my damage to come from my weapon attacks, rather than my pet attacks.

I have (and will continue to) play petless MM when I’m in a group, as I’ve preferred since 2014, but I will not be happy if I can’t solo effectively as my preferred spec due to removal of pets.

3% damage reduction (if you spec Tenacious) isn’t going to make up for the loss of a pocket tank, nor will it make up for the loss of 10% Leech if you had a Ferocity pet.
