pls turn off sharding blizz, its so incredibly annoying and i just wanna be able to vibe with my friends in stormwind
This is still a hell of an issue, making finding RP a pain in the rear end.
I get that RP isn’t really the main focus of the devs, but for a number of servers it’s the main focus for a lot of the player base. Come on, blizz.
And again I’ll say maybe nows the time to abandon SW as a hub. There’s other good areas to rp out there. Why do we hang around just SW?
Who’s we? Goldshire is brimming with life.
Don’t make me get the clorox?
Wouldn’t those other areas be similarly sharded?
I think it’s just the fact that it’s the most accessible place with the Mage tower going to more places than any other portal hub, this also explains why most RP is in/around the Mage district and Lion’s rest. SW also pretty much has a connection not just via the Mage tower to other hubs, but other hubs like Boralus which in itself is also a hub, so by hosting something in SW you are basically at all times at best two portals away from any locale and vice versa for people who need to get there as opposed to say, Gilneas RP?
Please turn this off already. It’s been long enough and no one can find anyone to RP with because everyone is stuck in different layers. At this point, you’re just punishing RPers.
I also wish this would be turned off.
Blizz forgot the ‘turn off sharding for RPers’ button again I see.
Classic mistake, happens every expac launch.
Seems like there’s people again, but it’s also 8 Am (less than an hour before server shutdown), I’d give it till 5 PM to know for sure…
A hub is a hub, and we’re going to shard if we all wind up going elsewhere.
And there are other smaller hubs that people use. I hang out Darkshire all the time and can usually find walkup / tavern stuff there.
Sharding is the only way to actually be able to PLAY the game, that is, do anything other than pretend chat.
What they should do, is just make 2 shards – set an RP tag on yoruself if you want the RP shard, don’t if you wanna actually play the game without ridiculous lag.
I hate having to wait 2 seconds for my mount ability to start casting after I hit the button, I hate talking to an NPC and having to wait 2 seconds for his dialogue to appear, etc.
I avoided SWC for years because of it, except for that brief period where they sharded it, then I went there to do dailies there when I was still doing those.
Because when Blizz decided to throw RPers a bone and turn sharding off initially they only did it for SW and Org, but nowhere else in the world. So everyone abandoned the other cities and places because they still had sharding issues and were impossible to RP in. SW and Org are the only 2 reliable places left.
RP in SW is absolutely about reliability and availability. It’d be great if people could spread out into the world and still have access to organic walk-up interactions, but the centralization happens as a result of sharding outside of Stormwind and Orgrimmar, as well as a necessity to locate players.
Sharding in Stormwind should have been turned of a week ago. The traffic is so low, there doesn’t seem like a reasonable explanation for it to stay on at this point.
All we need to do, is give players an RP toggle.
Those with RP Toggled on, get sent to the RP Shard, those with it toggled off, get sent to the “Empty” Shards.
This should be easy to implement as it’s literally an on/off switch that dictates where you’re sent.
That way, RPers don’t get non-RPers causing them lag and/or running through on their expedition yaks, etc and non-RPers don’t have to wait several seconds for every attempt at interacting with anything to actually process.
This would be a fantastic solution. I only believe that turning the sharding toggle from off to on is the most expedient, pragmatic solution as the system already exists, even if it would be a simple thing (I imagine, I can’t pretend to know for certain) to create an RP toggle.
It’s a very good idea, though.
Sharding for Three weeks in a row now and slowly going onto four is not a good sign nor it should be when Blizzard knows how much this effects the rp community. It just needs to be turned off plain and simple.
It’s normally fine, I never have that kind of lag outside of huge stuff like the end of the TOA. There’s like no one in Stormwind right now, everyone’s out doing content.
Also, “pretend chat” is what most of what RP players do with our time in the game. You might like a regular PvE server better if that’s not your thing.
I mean…
There kind of is a ‘toggle’ already. It’s that you play on a RP server, or you play on a regular server. I’m sort of baffled as to why, when lag isn’t normally a problem, people would need to have a ‘non-RP’ switch to flip when they could just…play on a regular server.
Also hey Blizz, this is your periodic reminder that sharding is still on, please turn it off, kthx.
Me: can i have fun in Stormwind yet?
Blizzard Entertainment®: No™
More seriously, though—I firmly disagree about sharding being the only way WoW can function; this game survived for most of its life and its absolute peak in popularity from 2004 through 2016 without sharding.
If 12 million players could enjoy WoW in 2008 without sharding, we should be more than fine today.
