You’re not wrong, but they could get the same engagement out of a week long egg grind to buy this stuff.
We did it with Love is in the Air. Even my low pop server was constantly busy with people doing dailies so they could buy the new expensive items. It worked well.
I have the OP on ignore, so I don’t even know what their post says. LOL I just promote high vendor cost items for holidays and short term events in every thread like this.
The armory can be slow to update sometimes, so just because it doesn’t show up there now doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t have it. This character is wearing the Plunderstorm pirate outfit in game, but not on the forums for example.
I don’t know for sure if it applies to mounts, so I tried to check my own profile to find out, and it told me I have 0 mounts, and 0 unique pets, but that I also have the Lord of the Reins title equipped, so I’m not so sure the carpet not being there really means anything.
Assuming the OP is referring to me not having the mount showing in the list for this character. It is true. This character did not “learn” the looted item. It was learned on alt #7.
Just another reason to keep them ignored, as they appear to be ignorant of their ignorance in regards to armory lists not updating or updating slowly.
A good option, ADD it to compensate for poor RNG, but not to completely replace the option to loot as the OP suggested in the title.
so the solution, which the springstrider alone is 500 currency, is to farm all that over the % chance? Most people with any amount of alts either already have the carpet or will if they keep trying. That is far better than spending the entire event fighting with 10k other players for egg spawns. The whole idea of collecting, is the feeling you get when something drops. That feeling does not exist when you purchase items.
You aren’t fighting anyone for egg spawns. Multiple people can pick up the same egg and they stay spawned for a while. It’s basically like herbs. And they respawn quickly in busy areas.
No one’s asking for every aspect. Short holidays and events shouldn’t be RNG. Or, if people are hellbent on this “I MUST HAVE AN RNG DROP” then do what someone else said and have both options.
Anything from content that’s only available once a year (or once ever) should be 100% obtainable if enough effort is put in. In other words, it should be on a vendor for holiday currency, a reward for a quest or quest chain, or a drop from the boss with some sort of bad luck prevention (like kill the boss each day for 90% of the days of the holiday and it’s a guaranteed drop).
No game should ever be “Welp, better luck next year” for anything, especially when people are putting in the work, doing the holiday content every day of the holiday.
I wanted the mount. MMO farming is like that sometimes. Like I said, it’s not a huge deal, just somewhat annoying compared to the standard loot system for a farmable mount.
go on a server with a high population, there’s 35 people with giant mounts hovering over every egg spawn spot, you absolutely are fighting for eggs. Sure you may get some, but you ain’t gettin 1000’s of currency to buy everything if it was for sale with any kind of real speed. How is that possibly better than just taking your chances with every 60+ then moving on to something else for the day. And I think most people would agree that it’s a completely different feeling when you buy something than it is when you get a lucky drop.
As much as you advocate to have the option to purchase, which I agree with, I’ll stick up for having the same item be obtainable via a loot drop for players who find grinding out currencies just as much or even more tedious than throwing a gazillion alts at a boss in hopes of getting a rare to drop. And I’d never request to remove content or replace an option with another single choice. If there’s only one choice to access, then the other should be added.
EDIT - case in point, the Swift Springstrider can be purchased, or looted from the brightly colored eggs, unless they’ve have since removed it from the loot table.
nah, I was doing it on 17 toons a day, same with the weekly feast quest. More toons equals more chances. Tedious maybe, but an alt army comes much in handy when trying to farm anything
