Holy cow I did not expect this thread to last this long.
Do Marks hunters need their pets all the time? no. Is the Marks pet optional in all situations?..NO. We shouldn’t be penalized for using our class to it’s required potential.
Just bake in the 10 pct buff all the times and stop accepting scraps as a rewards. We aren’t top DPS anyway…and we HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A PET CLASS.
The marks pet is part of the utility we are losing out on.
Yes, yes it is actually. Even in Vanilla long before LW was even a thing, the marks pet was optional and even encouraged to be dismissed while raiding and other high aoe fights because it would be dead quite quickly and just be a waste to rez over and over.
In those situations though you could still use a Wolf or even a Dragonhawk to boost your DPS without sending them into melee range to get killed by AoE.
I never played hunter in Vanilla sadly, but I did play one for all of MC in the WoW Classic release and this statement simply isn’t true.
My last raid before I left for work reasons we had 6 hunters (which is wild to think about) and all of us used our pets during ALL boss fights. You simply were required to use pet management and position them well (say during Ragnaros). If you used eyes of the beast and placed your pet right beside Rag on the ground, he wouldn’t run through the lava and die.
Now you are right about one thing,
That definitely can happen, but like I said most fights your pet cold live through if you called him back when he would get to about 40% HP, usually he would get some sort of AOE heal and eventually you could send him back in to fiht. Was it a perfect system? No, but your pet still did a decent amount of damage during those fights, even as MM / SV build.
No Ma’am,
The expantion matters not at all (excluding the last 2, didn’t play those because of MoP rage issues) If you were solo in the open world vs higher level or elite targets? Definitely not. Your kiting room is normally limited by whatever other mobs are in the area.
If you ALWAYS play with friends, then sure, knock yourself out…but you have to understand that whoever is tanking is taking the place of your pet at a bare minimum.
NO HUNTER in WoW can solo without their pet vs hard targets.
Hello, glad to see your post. It is TRUTH! Without a pet, a Hunter, no matter what spec, is at best a bowman, riding in the train of somebody powerful enough to keep the baddies away. Where they go, you follow. Its that or stay on the porch.
Me, as a MM Hunter, me and my pet, we go where we please, carefully, mind you, but we go, and come back.
Its a Partnership, and a good one. It works still, My pet fetches them and ties them up, and I, as the Killer, put them DOWN.
Its ridiculous that some seem to think abandoning something useful and replacing it with ? nothing should grant them more dps. Whats the reasoning? Just because? But fine. I won’t kick over going petless gets you 10% increased dps. I don’t always have my pet out, and benefit from it too. But, I know its a gimmee. Another thing, my pet is worth WAY more than that 10%.
Any MM that doesn’t know this, doesn’t know how to completely play the Spec.
Bowmen stay with the group. With their pet, a MM Hunter IS a group.
I prefer the fantasy of being an expert marksman with my bow, not someone who asks a wolf to do it for me.
Lone Wolf, as it is now, let’s both of us enjoy our separate MM fantasies reasonably well.
My Wolf brings them to me, he don’t shoot them! And he ofttimes keeps them off me. I remember Lone Wolf, around the beginning of Legion. World content was unplayable.
I suppose, not having to keep a pet up, you can put more into your gear. Works for me. I don’t take my pet everywhere.
Now I’m picturing a wolf trying to shoot a bow. As with most things puppy, it’s quite adorable.
I love the challenge of trying to get the bad guys down before they get to me. I can nuke most non-elites down within my first alpha strike.
I mean… MM was unplayable in legion in general imo, but I never had issues not using a pet since Lone Wolf became a thing in WoD. Some people want to be able to play an archer, bowman, w/e. Blizz should have made a new ranged class instead pushing it into the hunters, but shrug.
I thought the point was to give more options so you dont HAVE to have a pet out, and the 10% compensates for the damage loss.
Yes, but Lone Wolf was originally a talent making it an option. Now it’s baseline and when it comes to pure dps numbers, the only thing that matters on boss fights for the most part, having your pet out is a dps loss.
Biggest problem those who love ranged and pets can have pet out on mm however you are handicapping yourself with number tuning. Its like unequipping a piece of gear just cause you want to use pet. Sure its optional but with dps difference you have to take dps loss to have fido with you. Before wod you had 3 options for range and pet, lone wolf kind of forces petless unless you want to play bad, and sv went melee. How i would play was level bm go sv raids. That way is gone and if i went mm my performance will drop cause i made hunters for pets and to be ranged. Bm isnt as fun, well currently its most fun of 3 but sadly thats not saying much to how bad class design is.
But I mean, we ask other players to be our tank in dungeons. What’s so bad about asking our pets to be our tank outside of dungeons?
This. Blizzard has no excuse. Make a new class that uses ranged weapons.
Please no at this point; I’m attached to Bel here. >_>
Blizzard has not added one single new ranged spec. We’ve even lost 1, if you count the SV change to melee. We do need a new ranged class.
Yeah, I’m just selfishly asking for the “Archer/sniper” archetype to not be moved off of hunter over to a new class since I don’t want to level a new one and am attached to Bel at this point.
I am scared that popular opinion will roll around to being “MM Hunters don’t really need a pet, and most don’t want one, not really. Lets make MM the new Akela, the Lone Wolf!” Petless…. of course… its not like a pets needed, it will be pointed out to me that I do more damage WITHOUT a pet!.
I’ve stuck with MM in spite of the sub-par …. well, everything, because it’s my spec, and enough is left that I can be a MM Hunter, albeit in much reduced circumstances. I wonder, how many “Rangers” believed in their class fantasy to the point of taking a dps loss? You know, saying “I walk alone.” and freeing all their Hunter pets. If the petless damage buff went away, would so go the lone Rangers? Nahhh… Anyways, its not a petless dps buff . its a DeBUFF for having a pet. So says the very OP that started this thread. Rats… call me Cassandra…
This actually happened. Because through WoD and Legion MM hunters took Lone Wolf more often not because it provided the most dps compared to other options in the row, rather then trying to figure out how to make the other options better, in BFA they just made it baseline for MM.
