Please let us use new models in Classic

No clue what the new graphics look like. I’d be okay to have an option to switch, like warcraft reforge does. Although it’s most likely horrible the same way.

Nooooooo , please don’t ever do this , classic graphics are perfect , leaves a lot up to imagination in a good way , retail graphics look like an awful Disney movie

Bah, fell for the necro.

Anyway, the new models look like garbage.

They sure do

I thought when the new models came out there was a checkbox? If so, I don’t see it being an issue. You can choose to use old model.

If you haven’t noticed there’s a lot of classic players who get wildly upset about things that others do even when it has zero impact on them.

This sort of ‘feature’ would likely cause many bugs, reduce game smoothness, and forsure will bloat the download size.

There are lots of players from regions in which top performance machines are quite expensive and pushing them away while making the game worse isn’t something vanilla players cheer for.

The aesthetics of vanilla are so much better than retail already.

Retail is like 500gb install for what has become a incoherent mess, why bring that to vanilla?

This is not mentioning the likely thousands of hours of dev work required to build something that makes the game worse. When they could focus on stuff that is actually beneficial.

It’s already in cata classic and works fine.

Like I said it’s entirely optional and has no impact on people who don’t use it.

Cata is already retail and also on a diff client / server architecture.

Also look at cata bug reports the game is broken.

While I personally prefer Retail graphics (and especially customization options) classic graphics must be the decision for classic wow.

However, if they are able to get a working toggle that would be fine.

Cata classic is wait for it, classic.

The toggle exists in Cataclysm.

on a different server / client architecture.

This is a technical claim not a marketing claim about it being ‘classic’

Well not very different.

Different enough that we are talking about:

  1. hundreds or thousands of hours of dev work
  2. increasing download size
  3. potential bugs
  4. likely harming the ‘smooth’ of combat

I can prob go on and on about why this is a bad feature but whatever, retail players will never be happy.

The download itself is optional so once again zero impact on people who choose not to use it.

Like I said there’s some classic players who just get wildly upset about what others are doing even when there’s zero impact on them.

Not understanding impacts does not mean they are not there.

We’ve had weekly bugs introduced by SoD for an entire year, it is clear to all vanilla players that shoving retail features is likely to create bugs. Only recently has SoD been separated because it was causing so many issues.

Go look at the open source vanilla code and it will be clear how unexpected side effects are easy to cause. It is a complex program with lots of moving parts.

I’m talking about purely a gameplay stand point of which no there are none, the people who want to see them download and use them the people who don’t don’t.

And just a quick check of the bug forum doesn’t have anything recent about the updated textures so I guess it’s not the massive issue you think it is.

NO

Any change has the potential to cause issues.

Adding ‘optional downloads’ requires coding the infrastructure for that - another potential cause of bugs.

If someone doesn’t like the look of vanilla they should just go play something else. We have plenty of players.
