I mean, maybe it is because of the server I am on, but I have seen a fair amount of Dracthyr on other classes. Both in town, and around in dungeons (and in both Dracthyr and Visage form). I switched my Mage to Dracthyr, but I prolly do not count since I obviously like the race.
I do not think they were rushed, though. They have put a lot of work into the customisations and things like barbershop armour. Lack of transmog and having to fight in Dracthyr form was a choice they made, not something they had to do. Neither of those bother me personally though, so I do not have a horse in that race. I do not use my Visage form, and the lack of transmog was actually a plus for me.
I am fine with them opening more transmog to the Drachyr form eventually, though. All for more choices. I would just want it done in a way that doesn’t break the options we have now. I do not see how they could do that without separating the models first.
ive looked up the info out of curiosity and its sub 1% for all non evoker dracthyr. its a lil over 3% for evokers.
its kind of a had to. their main argument for some races use to be armor so by doing this by choice they kinda got rid of their main argument they had against giving us playable classes like naga. also everything else had armor so to make a race that doesnt do armor feels lazy and rushed. hell the evoker tier sets should be added to the barber when u get a piece. i feel like if nothing else the armor made specificly for this 1 class on this 1 race should at the bare minimum be able to either get transmoged or go to the barber shop and be put on like that armor otherwise why even bother giving them armor. they had to know this was going to cause problems
If nothing else at least let us have a visage glyph for other races. I think it would be fun to see if Blizzard did allow full Xmog on Dracthyr and see how many people use the old looks/naked dragon look VS using a full xmog. As I always say with Worgen and other races. More options will always be better… You know we want optional tails Blizzard make it so! Then make more options for other races too.
I would love to be able to see all my armor on my Drakthyr when in my natural state. I get that they didn’t do that to save time, as they’re just a small indie company, but making some cool armor for Drakthyr but it’ll rarely be seen just feels bad.
Since Worgen were brought up, I’d love to see something like a toggle where you don’t transform in combat until you’ve performed 3 hostile actions first or something like that. I don’t mind transforming into a Worgen when I fight, but if I’m riding a horse and a kobold goes “Hey, you’re in my territory!” but I barely even notice it, my character shouldn’t just go “Oh no, I’m a Worgen!!”
Personally, I don’t care about “Visage form” or whatever. It feels like a silly concept, and having most of Dragonkind always feel like they’d rather be something else (instead of just taking those forms to engage in diplomacy or infiltration) is goofy to me. Like the entire race is filled with beings that think “I wish I was born as something other than a dragon!”? Weird.
Visage is a part of lore that has been established for a long long time. It’s what gave most of our dragon npcs their appeal in the first place besides being a villain in dragon form. Lol
I can’t say the first image that comes to mind when I read kalecgos, alexstrazsa or even chromie is them as a dragon.
Dracthyr aren’t essentially dragons but they are based off of them as the playable dragon race. So it’s not crazy.
Each their own but visages for dragons is a very common trope in fantasy novels. Especially in eastern stories.
But look how much damage Onixya did in her visage form. Manipulation is a tactic used by dragons as well.
There are even legit conspiracies, but like what isn’t a conspiracy these days, of people thinking dragons still exist but are hiding in their human forms.
Crazy people of course. Mostly because of old stories. But dragon visages or drakanthropy has been a thing for a long while now. Especially, again, in the east. Older than Tolkien stuff.
Yes, those are diplomacy/infiltration reasons for appearing differently from a dragon, especially when dragons might be considered hostile on their own.
But WoW has dragons who seem to hate that they’re dragons and wish they were something else.
That’s one of the many reasons why I feel the faction system has really hurt the overall narrative of the game. If there weren’t rigid “sides” that you’re eternally married to, but instead they told stories that included whomever the story calls for, they wouldn’t be so restrained in telling a story and creating a world.
also I don’t think they hate being a dragon. Visages see very much part of being a dragon, the whole thing is about them choosing their visage and going “this is me” type of thing. It is very heavy handed though. Like…no duh.
From what I understand and have heard, the devs nowadays have a lot of free reign in using whoever they want in side quests and self-contained zone stories, so the faction system isn’t actually standing in the way of any of that. The main quest stuff is a bit more locked in, in a “we can’t turn this freighter on a dime” way, but similarly they control what story is being written that calls for whoever they want to.
