The idea of a permanent Wrath Server is enticing, but I think there DOES need to be a path forward. However, every game is judged based on multiple factors…gameplay, graphics, story, etc…but one of the main factors that gets overlooked is replayability. Zelda, Final Fantasy, Halo…name the franchise and one of the best aspects is the ability to replay the game with the same level of enjoyment.
Toward THAT end, Wrath servers would be best managed by completing the existing lore and content. Blizzard has already done that with some features (RDF, pet/mount/toy management, etc.) and has also shown that they can manipulate the classic code (e.g., SOD).
So, why not:
- Keep a few Wrath servers. 2-3 would suffice.
- Re-vamp the Classic zones with features that were introduced in TBC & Wrath, like faction Reputations (e.g., Stormwind consists of Goldshire, Westfall, Lakeshire, and Darkshire, and quests in those zones help build faction rep. Rewards are the Classic quest items, and overall Stormwind rep gets you faction rewards like Armor sets. Similar to Alliance Vanguard/Frostborn/Silver Covenant/etc. in Wrath).
*Re-work the skills and armor sets
*Make zones available that are otherwise restricted to future expansions (I.e., Gilneas, Kul Tiras, etc.). - Do NOT screw with the classes. No one wants the restrictions introduced with Cata.
Replayability is what the majority of the Classic fanbase wants, minus the detractors who insist on new content. This is evident in the popularity of SOD & Hardcore mode. So make that experience worthwhile and KEEP what continues to draw players back to the franchise. I have dozens of guildies, friends, and family members who began with WoW in 2004 and quit when Cata was launched. We came back for Classic, and we continued through Wrath since that was the culmination of the story begun way back in Warcraft 1 through Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne. KEEP that, and refine it. Don’t burn it to the ground in the name of ‘new content.’
Trolls & scoffers will mock ideas like this, but they really don’t understand the issue…and no one really cares what they think about the subject. If you can’t be constructive and understand that people do NOT want wholesale changes to the franchise, then just keep it to yourself.
