Please help

I suck at healing and am the main reason my group loses in a solo shuffle. Please fix my character and gameplay. I did disc recently because someone told me I was playing a bad spec, but I’m even worse at that so I prefer to do holy. I would like about 6 less buttons if anyone knows good builds or macros that are button spammy/ just use the same few buttons.

I never know when to use prayer of mending, bubble, or renew, and whom to use it on. I also want that thing where it pops up on your screen that the hunter just threw a trap that says “trap incoming!”

How does everyone know where to stand, it’s like some people are just so good at positioning, for me it seems like the dps run away and I don’t know where is a good place to go that doesn’t put me out in the open. Should I be by a pillar the whole game? The same pillar as them or a different one?

I try to keep up Shadow Word Pain (or whatever it changed to nowadays) on the enemy team. I know shadow word death is used for something related to cc but I don’t know what.

I think my set up is also bad. I have gladius EX but I don’t know how to use the clicks thing. I would like to be able to left click the enemy and have it shadow word pain them. And right click to stun them with the chastise. Idk why omnibar is helpful. I feel like I have no time to look at that during the match at all.

Is there some healing rotation I should know? Does holy priest need to do a lot of damage in arena or is it enough to just do Shadow Word Pain and maybe smites? Also, do I need chat on, I turned it off because people were mean to me. Is there anything healers need to chat about in regular solo shuffle? What is the highest rating people can get without chatting, I am low like 1700 or something.

I am moving with the mouse and pressing mainly with my left hand and a few buttons on the mouse itself. Do pvpers use WASD, how are they so good at zooming around the map, and are there foot pedals?

My computer is good, I like it, PEBKAC as you would say. It is definitely not a computer problem.

How many cooldowns do you use and how frequently, and if you only use a few, how do people not die when you do that? I downloaded omni friendlies or something so I can see my teammates’ defensives, that is extremely helpful (when I remember to use it of course).

What do you do when you get holy locked or how do you prevent that?

Thank you.

If the dps deviates from the triangle, it is not your fault.

Thank you I am watching it, is there any way I can move to get the dps all protected? Or do I just grip them back?

You just let the dps do what they want. If they die, it is not your fault if they are bad at positioning. If the positioning is good, you will get hardly get CCed, you will be able to cast heals without interruption.

If a dps runs to attack you as the healer when you are in a good position, what do you do? Do you run away even if it means the dps are at risk, or do you just kind of heal yourself and fear them, etc?

you hump the pillar. If you are a priest, the dps will not go for you since you are tanky.

You can watch Xaryu for positioning.

Woah he is really out in the open, am I supposed to be doing that? Like he will run into the middle where the enemy dps are I see, is that something I should be doing in case my dps run away? I am just seeing his round at 13 minutes in.

He has to follow but he always keeps his distance. When he is going to get CCed, the enemy has to get out of the range of their healer in order to CC him.

Don’t try to put sw pain on all the enemies. It will ruin some CC. Just focus on healing. Don’t even put any dps abilities in your hotbar. Just take healing talents. Look at Xaryu, he doesn’t attack. All he did was heal. Attacking is not something you should worry about if you are learning to heal.

Should I use renew? What spells are the best ones for holy to use in solo shuffle? I am mainly using a lot of flash heal and serenity recently, and what order do you use the cooldowns like void shift into serenity? How often do you use prayer of mending? Also, when do you PI someone just right at the start?

I have just started doing that Spirit of Redemption when the positioning is getting bad for me, that seems to help a lot as well.

Can I take mind soothe off the bar?

When ally is over 90% health and shield is on cooldown, use renew. However, pay more attention to shield than renew. You get a talent also that puts renew on your ally with prayer of mending.
Use prayer of mending often. Get the pvp talent for it.
When ally is under 60% health, use serenity.
Use hw life when ally is at 35%.
Everything else, just flash heal.
This is going to deplete your mana compared to the other healer but if your dps is dying then you should just focus on keeping your dps alive. Let’s say you are pretty confident on keeping your ally alive. You may want to take the heal weaving talent. You basically swap between flash heal and then heal. This will conserve your mana and give you better heals. However, this will give you more things to think about.

Mind Soothe is a pve ability. It reduces aggro range last I remember. I could be wrong. Useful in dungeons, not useful in pvp. Get the talent for extra seconds for spirit of redemption also.

This is the weak aura for the trap incoming.

You can set up harm help macros that can save you keybind space, so if you’re targeting an enemy, it will be an offensive ability, and when targeting a friendly it will be a heal.

Examples:

/cast [harm] smite
/cast flash heal

/cast [harm] dispel magic
/cast purify

/cast [harm] Purge the Wicked
/cast [harm] Shadow word: pain
/cast renew

Movement wise you should only be using forward and side strafes. Unbind keyboard turning / backpedal and use them for extra bind space.

I wish I could do this lmao.
I don’t use the binds at all, they just sit there. Can’t get my brain to use A and D for abilities

It’s bad advice to tell someone to never use damage abilities as Holy since our stun and anti-CC is tied to damage abilities and Holy Fire does a lot of damage, you just chuck out the occasional Holy Fire and SW: Pain when damage is low.

If I’m having difficulty remembering a bind, I’ll throw the bind letter / number on a weak aura with the cooldown attached to remind myself.

Oh I remember it, it just doesn’t work with how I have my stuff set up.
S is my stun, qwe are movement keys, z is movement, x is heal, c is mobility cd/feign
and then everything else is modifiers

You generally want to Spirit early when the first wave of damage comes in to preserve mana for longer and to get Spirit back for a 2nd use. Spam Serenity and Flash Heal in to Heal on people like mad during Spirit of Redemption because your entire toolkit costs 0 mana during this cooldown.

Guardian Spirit is also a 1 minute cooldown if it doesn’t save anyone from death before it expires so generally make use of that first before using your trinket to break CC if you get stunned as you can cast it while stunned.

Avoid hardcasting Renew at all unless you’re moving and having nothing better to use as it’s expensive to maintain it and you get them for free from Prayer of Mending bounces, use Shield sparingly as it is not a very efficient use of your mana compared to prioritising Heal and Holy Word: Serenity more.

Keep Prayer of Mending on cooldown, it is your core healing ability and has tremendous value as Holy bouncing up to 14 times, can proc free Renews and makes Heal a faster cast.

Flash Heal is just there to activate Lightweaver, if you can get away with Heal spam only then do so as you’ll preserve your mana bar for longer, bring in Flash Heal when damage is higher and dampening is starting to ramp up.
Side note also - if you get a Surge of Light proc that will give you a free stack of Lightweaver as it makes Flash Heal free and instant cast.

Generally you should use Power Infusion on one of your allies when they start dealing damage, if you have OmniCD installed you should be able to tell when they pop their major cooldown, this is the best time to give them Power Infusion.

Don’t be afraid to use Serenity liberally as you get it back fast by just doing your normal healing rotation and using Apotheosis. A good habit to get in to before you pop Apotheosis is to Chastise someone and Serenity an ally first rather than just using one of them first, the extra stun does more than people realise.

Power Word: Life whenever someone is below 35% like Lightshade mentioned before.

If incoming damage from the enemy team is low you can mix in some Holy Fire and Shadow Word: Pain casts on the DPS. You can also Mindgames someone during this time or use it to bait kicks on the Shadow school if you can’t play at max range from people.

The general rule of thumb as Holy in Shuffle is to always try and play at max range from your teammates and not be within range of the enemy DPS or their healer to avoid getting caught in crowd control chains, if they are close to you you can use Psychic Scream defensively then kite away from them to create distance. If you see them try and CC you you can also cast Shadow Word: Death late in to their cast so that it will break the effect on you.

Smite is only really useful for getting Chastise back a bit quicker, the damage isn’t very good unless you can chain several casts of Smite back to back, most of the time SW: Pain and Holy Fire are 10x better for raw damage and they’re all very cheap to cast.
Our damage is good it’s just not something we actively go out of our way to do in Arena right now unless we don’t need to top someone up at that moment.

Disc may be a stronger healer overall right now but Holy is absolutely viable, I got 2100 with it in Shuffle myself a few days ago.

She cannot keep her allies alive. Why would she think about attacking when she is not doing a good job healing? Her first priority is to learn positioning and keeping her allies alive. She can then learn dps, CC, mana management and so on afterwards.
