Make a ret spec. Go do wintergrasp each time it’s up/bgs for honor and normals for shards. Use shards to buy the honor tokens in WG. Go to netherstorm and buy a full 238 kit.
Use 238 kit to spam anything you can get into. ICC 5s on normal can be spammed to replace the weaker pvp items and can be blitzed easily. Get into the weekly raid and VoA as it’s easy to carry and the loot is mostly sharded so very little, if any, competition for it. Get into any ICC gammas you’re able daily for gear/badges. Normal ICC25 is easy to carry a weaker geared dps so get into whatever you can each week.
If you can find a guild that’s hitting the roster boss you can catch up quickly as they’ll be looking for bodies and sharding most loot at this point. Being full 238 with whatever you can get from badges/voa/etc. will make it easier to be picked up as you’ve put in some effort instead of flat carry.
I’m really curious what PVP will be like in Cata. In Wrath, I played DK to a little over 2K in arenas. I found personally that I enjoyed it in 5s, and 3s, and in 2s with another DPS, but not so much at HPal/UH because there’s mostly a burst window when you have Gargoyle up, and if you don’t get a kill, or your garg gets CC’ed, which happens often, then games could last a very long time, esp. queuing into War/HPal (this was like season 5/6 though, I think that comp got a little weaker after).
I’ve heard that Ret/UH and Ret/Hunter are really strong in Cata, which both might be pretty fun comps. Maybe someone who has more Cata experience could comment on that.
Ret anything is strong, especially later seasons. 20% bonus healing to partner, instant flash procs + wog heals. Its my personal favorite version of holy power ret gameplay, inquisition etc. I played ret+ret on an alt to 2.2k lol its honestly good with so many classes.
DK gets necrotic strike, absorbs healing, its like stacking sunder to negate healing + add MS or Aimed shot, super hard to heal through lol.
The game is less bursty, less/no pve required, more viable specs, RBG hype etc
Im super excited to play RLS again on my rogue. Dance isn’t used to just spam ambush like in wotlk I get to focus on peeling & CC while aff lock rots them.
For RBGs Affliction Lock+Boomkin+Fire Mage as your core dps + a Hunter for aimed shot and base sitting with an UH DK to target call as he grips poor priests in to their death and he brings a Blood OS to tank Flag Carry maps. Rsham for lusting the big wizard cleave boys, Hpal, Disc, then a rogue/feral to stealth cap bases or yolo FC & GG
I’d boost Pally but that is just my opinion.
Can you even make a DK w/o having a 70 (or whatever the requirement was)? I really don’t know I’ve not looked.
ICC will probably be the only raid (well and Ruby) that will have activitiy.
Work on your professions, mounts, reps.
And the absolute most important part. Do not listen to or read or give any energy to anyone or anything that tries to steer you towards or away from Cata. Make up your own mind once it drops.
I am biased because i main a ret pal on wotlk. But i would go horde and not alliance lol bring biased again. My ret was boosted too. Immediately start the dungeon grind until your gs is high enough for togc and icc. Do your dailies and weeklies and getting th3m emblems.
I don’t know of any “must do” for cataclysm. There isn’t even a “must play” cataclysm. That said, if you plan to play cataclysm, I would suggest getting to 80, having professions maxed… and that’s about it. Leveling is so easy it won’t matter what your gear is. If you simply want to be extra overpowered, then by all means farm gear at 80. You can have a decent set entirely from tokens, or even honor, although resilience isn’t an ideal stat vs mobs.
If you don’t heave a level 60, you can’t create a DK - I think this is still true. So you would have to have a created char to boost. If I’m wrong, someone will sure point it out but I tried to create a DK on a server and it said no way…
