I love alts. They keep the game fresh, fun, and keep me subscribed. I know a lot of other people do too. The problem with playing more than one character is that the game becomes an even bigger time sink if you want a certain reputation for a certain armor. I personally have three characters I really enjoy playing (Druid, DK, and DH), but I like them all and enjoy learning every class so I can be better at playing my mains. Especially with BFA I’ve mostly stopped playing alts because of the rep gating of important events, such as allied races. If we had account-wide rep I would be exalted with almost every faction in the game. Right now I have three characters most of the way through revered with most of the new factions, and a hodge podge of exalted factions going all the way back to vanilla.
I know there are plenty of people who only want to play one character; my significant other has played a priest, and just a priest, since vanilla.
The faction-wide Azerite necklaces were a huge boon to us folks who love alts. Could we please get account-wide, or even just faction-wide, reputation like Azerite necklaces? Or at least give us better rep catch up mechanics. It was easier for me to get three characters fully geared in current content top gear than it was for me to get exalted with all factions on just one character (no, my 3 “mains” aren’t current anymore since I unsubbed and quit since early in BFA after getting Pathfinder 1).
Thanks,
Someone who unsubbed after getting so frustrated with the game and the tone deafness of Blizzard (What, you don’t have phones) and came back to see the new stuff. Not sure if I’ll stick around, it really depends on how fun the game is. New stuff is fun, rehashing the same old stuff (like rep grinds) isn’t fun. Like, at all.
I actually agree with you Lasin, but this isn’t classic. Modern WoW is basically an arcade beat em up, so it’s silly to continue to be EZ mode on some things, and absurd on others, especially when it takes away from the fun. I’d agree with you if we got rid of LFR and cross server, and flying (basically classic), because classic was the most fun I ever had playing a game. Not because it was hard, but because of the community. You had a reputation and your character was often known on site if you were social enough. I remember many hours spent in team speak (I think that’s what we used at the time) during vanilla chatting with the opposing faction while waiting for BG queues to pop.
But modern WoW isn’t classic, and it’s a detriment to fun having so much that is EZ mode, but things like reputation still character gated.
Sorry, but I actually disagree with you there. There is some things that are not account wide, and will never be, which is a good thing. But things that are just easy to get, but get tiredsome after doing it over and over on so many alts, this is where rep should be made account wide.
Plus, Reputation from Warlords, sure, looks easy, but now, it is more pricy or time consuming, and considering that WoD didn’t have much dailies or stuff to gain rep, this is another thing on why reputation should be account wide.
So you want to drive more people away ? Character progression is the reason I make alts, and reps are part of character progression.
These reps are ridiculously easy to get - all you need to do it play the alts. If you don’t want to play them you don’t need rep on them anyway. If your alts are there to make gold for you then yes you should have to put a little effort into getting the rank 3s patterns. If your alts are just there to support your main then you don’t need rank 3 patterns anyway.
If you don’t like doing rep on all your characters just don’t do it. You literally don’t need it for anything. Why keep on ruining the game for others.
I should say I agree with you IF this was an RPG where you had one character. But WoW isn’t. And alts are a lot of the fun for a lot of us. And it wouldn’t hurt anyone who doesn’t want to play alts by having rep account or faction wide. But it does severely hurt the game for those of us that enjoy more than one thing.
I really thing faction-wide Azerite necks are the best example of why rep should be faction or account wide. Legion was so tedious leveling Artifact weapons on multiple toons (I did it on 6, and it SUCKED). Having the faction-wide neck level has made BFA so much less tedious, and it doesn’t hurt anyone who only wants to play just one character.
The developers have drawn a hard line between what is account wide and what is individual character. Rep rewards of professions and gear make rep part of character progression.
If they removed those rewards then you could have your account wide rep but would anyone want it ?
I don’t understand your question - such as. I don’t care for any account wide stuff - achievements, mounts, pets etc. really. They remove content from the game. Now some people like OP say they remove tedious content but regardless if he wants to do this stuff or not, some people would prefer each of their characters earn their way.
Part of the appeal of classic was the difficulty of currency, the need to make choices because of limited currency. That part of the game is gone for many people because make a fresh alt and send gold over. Makes the game easy but it also makes the game less rewarding.
If nobody wanted it, then why are there some requesting it?
That has been a thing since Classic if I recall correctly. Sure gold wasn’t easy to make back in the days.
But the fact is, things such as mounts, achievements, titles and transmogs aren’t the problem with the game, it is the content itself. Broken content or bad content is really what is killing this game, and making it feel unrewarding. Same thing with poorly design classes.
I’d rather they give us MoP tokens that increases the reputation rate. That or tabards increase reputation gained after one of your characters previously hit exalted.
In your opinion. Not in mine. I don’t have a problem with the content. The content is actually almost the same as classic. It is the added conveniences that are killing the game and some of them are fine but some just ruin any sense of accomplishment for people. Account wide systems do that.
and this.
WoD had dailies and it isn’t expensive at all unless you want to take a short cut and bypass playing.
Classic catch up mechanics were by doing previous raids to catch up to the latest raids
Classic didn’t have boring class designs
Classic didn’t have Island Expeditions
Classic didn’t have Warfronts
Classic didn’t have Allied Races
Classic didn’t have CRZ/Sharding
Classic didn’t have Shamans on Alliance or Paladins on Horde
Classic didn’t Titanforge/Warforge
Classic didn’t have Flexible Raids or Heroic or Mythic Raids
Classic didn’t have LFD/LFR
Classic didn’t have spells automatically learnt when leveling an alt.
Classic didn’t have Mission Boards
Yeah, there is nothing in WoW today that makes it even remotely close to classic. Anyone who thinks WoW now is like Classic is obviously trolling.
I said WoD didn’t have much dailies.
Medalion of the Legion last time I check was around 5.5k on the AH at the cheapest. And the last time I checked, it isn’t easy to come by all the rares that have a best drop rate for it considering CRZ/Sharding makes it hard at times to come close to getting a kill for the rares that does drop it in Tanaan Jungle.
You are on moonguard - you aren’t CRZ with anyone else in that old content. Try again for your excuse.
Lol, what is classic content. 60 lvls of go kill 10 boars and collect 15 of that. Sure there is nothing in current WoW like that (read sarcasm). Then you get dungeons - the same dungeons in fact in classic as in current game. Then you have BGs again the same. Raids yes a bit different but mostly the same raids too.
Just because current WoW gives you more content doesn’t mean you don’t have the same content as classic. If you like that content.
Guess you lose then and have to camp like just people had to camp those when content was current. I did those on 10 characters each day to get those mounts from those.
