Please fix archaeology

Blizzard doesn’t hate me, I finished Dwarven Archaeology in 48 solves, haven’t gotten a Dwarven digsite since.

Grats, now do you think people are having fun?

Do you think others should suffer 1000+ solves?

I think that if people aren’t having fun they should stop and take a break.

No I wouldn’t feel any different and while yes I did get lucky I would even say extremely so, I still wouldn’t do something I don’t enjoy. I’m still farming Archaeology for Zin’rohk but just like when I was farming the staff I’m not spending what I consider to be an unhealthy amount of time doing so, especially if I was hating every second of it. I spend upwards of 2 hours doing Arcaeology, I get bored and then stop, exactly what I was doing when I was farming the staff.

You quoting me like that just shows that you don’t want differing opinions, you want people who share your point of veiw on the matter and who are also “suffering”. You want an echo-chamber, I’ll say it again, if you’re not having fun doing Archaeology then take a break. All you’re doing is burning yourself out on Cataclysm before the expansion even releases, the fact that some people are quitting over this is, to me, quite funny because it’s by no means mandatory for one to get into a raid.

We’ll be doing these three raids for 4-5 months, the people who are farming these items so much that they’re considering quitting are only shooting themselves in the foot because we’ve got a long phase ahead of us considering the accelerated release cadence.

I spend 6-12hours a day farming the staff while im at work

And that’s fine, I should’ve specified it to those that farm the items while doing nothing else inbetween. You doing Archaeology in the downtime of your work to me isn’t unhealthy because you’ll get plenty of breaks where you’ll need to deal with whatever you do for work which will act like a buffer. You’re probably not burnt out as much (if at all) as the ones farming Archaeology with nothing else going on.

The best way to do Archaeology in my opinion is to be doing something while you’re doing Archaeology, whether that’s work, watching something, playing another game etc. Solely focusing on a tedious grind is just asking to get frustrated and burnt out which is why I’ll keep saying if you’re not having fun, take a break.

i have 1400 total, i have gotten shield and thats it. 641 troll, 371 dwarf.

they got me diggn’
wont let me stop
huntn’ for my dwarvn’ staff…
oh im diggn’ they wont let me stop

You said – “When cata first launched almost nobody had these things” --meaning you did not know what you were talking about because, like I said, literally no one had them… You also said that we – “are trying to take a game system and use it in a way it wasn’t designed”-- No sir, it was designed to be introduced on launch, NOT prepatch. In this way players could feel free to focus on preparing for launch instead of gambling 100s of hours away on pure rng… So obviously i’m not expecting the game to “cater” to me. I wanted them to release it they way they did in 2010… but they didn’t. So why couldn’t they change the system a little bit? Your suggestion of 5000 race solves for a race is way to high of a number, imo, that would take literally around over 1200 hours… I think 1000 solves for a race is a fair threshold and would equate to around what it took for some people to get it back in 2011. I remember my friend getting the sword back then with 1400 troll solves. 1000 troll solves is well over 200 hours worth of farming. That is a high enough barrier to entry for these items.

I think you replied to the wrong thing. I looked for the part you quoted and it’s nowhere to be seen in what you are replying to. And I am quite sure I haven’t said any of the things you quote but I might be misremembering.

But one thing I am sure of is I never made or supported any of the arguments you are arguing against here.

Would changes related to completed sites spawning be agreeable to you? I feel like the biggest issues with archaeology are the negative feedback you get from bad strings of rng. If they were mitigated it would be a afar more tolerable experience.

To make it engaging or fun there would need to be some other stuff done - like discovering old ghosts that drop some extra frags/keystones or animated fossils etc etc, or the perhaps simply completing commons individually after a certain amount of that solve. We’re a long way past #nochanges surely this stuff can be considered?

i agree 100% blizz STOLE Mass res mass summon cash flow and void storage then add retail xmog they wasted resources on things that should have been left alone instead of fixing something they admitted to being broken and needing adjustment 13 years ago

Lol both devs that interviewed the trashs treamers like crix and the austraillian guy who both didnt ask the correct questions ( theyre probably puppets to ) smurff and Steve from blue clues are 100% out of touch with the game i bet they didnt even play cata when it was first released

ok I get it your upset, but I don’t think this is a particularly productive line of reasoning, kinda gives the trolls examples too.

devs are so out of touch with their own game - this is got to be the LEAST enjoyable thing I have ever endured in the 18(?) years I have been playing the game. Fix this garbage jfc

its bringing back my PTSD from the og cata

You know they gave every healer mass res right?

Just make it so you can convert your frags into whatever you want on a 1-1 ratio, I think that’s a sufficient enough change for it to be more agreeable. Less stress about what sites you’re getting and it’d be more about how quickly can you get to them.

I kinda agree with your sentiment but it would mean people just go to the continent with the best fragments p/h and stay there forever, defeating one of the original intentions of arch - getting players back into the world. Thematically it feels a little off to me but I’d be happy with pretty much anything at this point. The feeling of getting fossil digsites after completing them for an item I didn’t want is all kinds of bad.
