Obtaining that gear is a skill. Someone calling my level 19 twink low-skilled trash isn’t going to take away all the times I had to log on at 3AM dodging gankers in the gurubashi arena to get the Arena Grandmaster Trinket.
Skilled planning is skilled pvp in a MMORPG, compared to something like an ARPG or a MOBA where the skill is limited to reflexes and twitch and multi-parallel-tasking in a high-speed environment.
I mean, a non-twink who doesn’t know may have a talent tree optimized for leveling through quests in the open world and be missing out on certain talents because of the wrongheaded emphasis. Should we call that not fair? (Yeah I know I’m preaching to the choir here, lol.)
I do wonder, however, if perhaps the advantage that BiS gear gives you is too heavy-handed. It’s all in the numbers, and the ratio of an “unfair” dps/hp advantage that comes from having all the best BiS, enchants, food buffs, pots, elixirs, etc. to the “fair” advantage that should be given is what, exactly? Eleventy-seven percent? This is one of those angels-on-a-pinhead arguments in my mind…
I guess the good thing is, the advantage is what it is, fair or unfair, and there doesn’t seem to be any indication that Blizzard is going to change them or give people who think that the gear advantage is unfair what they want.
But what’s the cutoff? How much “better” can an opposing player be, whether it’s gear or level or both before you complain about it being unfair? Are you upset if you queue into the 20-29 bracket as a level 20?
There is no one answer to that. Were there people who quit because they couldn’t seal club? Yes. There were quite a few issues also and it was not like a closed server community. The twink community was spread out and like I said in another post there were attempts to get more on the same servers just to get ques to pop because they just didn’t for twinks. Even though there were people in que to fill games. That took forever to get fixed and many gave up because of that. Then let’s talk about the itemization changes and the pvp templates. More quit over those messes. However a community did take root.
That is why I’m hoping we get server info before classic releases so we can get like minded folks on the same servers. I don’t care if I have to play a west coast server. As long as it’s community/pvp/raiding/twinking/light RPGish/light hearted/have fun muh dude type of server. I’m down.
I for one love seal clubbing, I just prefer skill-based seal-clubbing because then you can say someone is a scrub and they’ll know it because they can’t blame it on gear. The satisfaction derived is just as much about making them feel bad.
Which part isn’t that easy?
The part where the twink character is fed high bracket loot by a high level alt, or the part where the high bracket loot compensates for lack of skill?
