Please Disable Guards Flagging Players If They Are Not Attacked Back

Yeah srry I def skim through part of it :stuck_out_tongue:

If I had to guess again I would say it is an unintended side-effect of some minor change put in to reduce the ways people can trick others into become pvp flagged.

We agree, and I hope Blizz fixes it before I reach the Big Lift

i thought you all wanted your Pvp sever

Just stay away from opposing faction guards. Simple. You want to survive in HC it starts by being aware of your surroundings.

I scanned quickly and I didnā€™t see anybody post this, apologies if I missed it.

Based on the fact that thereā€™s video evidence showing a different behaviour on Era and the intent of HC for you to not be flagged unintentionally, this sounds like a bug.

Please consider logging here:

Iā€™ve run through the tunnel with dwarf guards patrols otw to badlands twice now. The guards are always wailing on me. I have no idea if I get flagged or not. Iā€™m not sure how to tell.

But any quest that involves running into faction guards, and thereā€™s no way around it ā€“ PvP flagging definitely needs to be turned off for those. They should just be regular NPCs that can be killed.

So does the horde get to badlands while avoiding alliance gaurds?

Was thinkingā€¦ if the guards couldnt flag someone PvP, you could group waltz right into the enemy capital and do the naked-selfie danceā€¦ without the selfie

You just mentioned 1 of the 3 Main reasons people die in HC because they donā€™t follow those simple rulesā€¦

  1. Patience
  2. Situational Awareness.
  3. Common Sense

I put your issue at #2. Nothing wrong with the Game, itā€™s YOU!

I have 4 HC characters and the highest is 28. In stone talon mountains I jumped off a hill behind what looked like another building in the area with mobs. It had an alliance Inn NPC in there. Luckily nothing agroed and I didnā€™t move a pixel. I hearthed out.

My point is I have 4 HC toons under 30 because after 30 you start to hit contested zones, sometimes before. I donā€™t want to die to the other faction guard monster because I was unaware, they were there in the fogged map. At the very least donā€™t you get flagged for PvP?

It would be nice to turn down guard range a lot and to remove NPC pvp flagging.

Itā€™s not dying, itā€™s just filtering out all the people who donā€™t actually want to play hardcore.

Itā€™s funny there are people ā€˜rememberingā€™ that guard NPCs flag, or ought to flag, a player simply by attacking. Thatā€™s never been the case, since the beginning until recently.

If you agroā€™d a guard, they would attack you like any other mob, stun you, daze, root, even to the point of killing you, but you would absolutely never be flagged for pvp flag yourself - where another player could attack and kill you - unless you did damage back or had something like thorns doing damage back to the NPC. You just kept going and eventually the NPC would leash back.

That is just a plain and simple fact of the way the game has been for 19 years and to insist otherwise just makes you look foolish.

This thing (read:bug) is new, and badly misplaced in a HC setting.

Now I did what I should have done from the beginning. When in doubt, consult a book.
I still have the old Game Manual, that came with the Vanilla CDā€™s.
I looked under PvP on Normal realms (The word for PvE realms throughout this manual):

On the normal realm, PvP mode is disabled by default. ā€¦ You can enable this flag by doing any of the following:

  • Attacking an NPC of an opposing faction, such as the opposing factionā€™s aerial mount master, guards, quest giver, vendor, or similar NPC.
  • Attacking an opposing player that attacked a friendly NPC. By counterattacking the first player, you enable PvP mode, and opposing players can begin attacking you.
  • Aiding a player engaged in NPC combat.
  • Entering an enemy capital city.

Besides these four ways you can also type /pvp at the chat prompt to enable PvP mode. In all cases, other players can only attack you if you enable the PvP flag through your own actions. You always have control over whether opposing players can attack you or not on a PvE realm. That means PvP is consensual-only on normal realms.

Ergo passing by guards, running through Camp Taurajo, visiting Tarren Mill, using the Great Lift and so on should NOT flag me for PvP. Not in Vanilla, not in Classic, and not in HC realms either.

Iā€™ve never been flagged by guards hitting me in contested territory on a PvE server. Itā€™s only occurred when intentionally entering their territory, and thatā€™s to be expected. Been this way since I started in TBC. You should not be getting flagged at the lift in 1K if you are not counter attacking.

Not in my experience, no.

I agree, and as I cited from the original rules, only entering the enemy factions capital cities (not even Camp Taurajo, Goldshire ect.) or atacking guards or other NPCs should flag you.
This is as it worked in Vanilla, this is still how it works in Era servers, and it sure is how it should work in HC servers, only something went wrong there and some guards randomly now also flags you as an extra bonus to being attacked by them.

This has been my experience on PVE servers going back to 2009. If the guard hits you, you get flagged.

Just donā€™t run into guards itā€™s really not that hard.

You go to the lift in Era on a lvl 30 character and let them hit you. You will not flag.

Error found: Vanilla was 2005-2007. And Vanilla is what we supposedly play now. Late Wrath and Cata is not the norm.

PVE server rule set changed from Vanilla to Wrath?
