Echoes are giga easy to grind out though, you get can get 5k+ a week just doing emissaries, assaults, and visions. Sockets are more annoying but they aren’t as important as corruptions.
The issue is that gear is such a tiny part of the picture now… Essences, corruptions and sockets all probably add more value to your character than ilvl does. Especially corruptions, stacking some of those is nuts. In PvP gushing can be your highest damaging ability by a mile. In pve things like IS and TD is massive damage depending on the fight.
Excellent gear catch up is a thing. Everything else is pretty garbage. Can’t compare the gear catch up to wrath as this isn’t just about gear.
It’s not a perfect system, for sure, but it’s not all bad. This issue though? I’d say it’s bad. We’re at the end of the expansion. Let people have their fun, I say.
So one corruption… When people can stack like 8 gushings? So you’re only 8 weeks behind? Pretty ridiculous.
They are still pretty important. Especially for PvP with their weird af scaling system, sockets are super valuable. It takes something like 4-5 5mask runs to get a socket?
An alt that had a boa cloak would still be insanely behind. Let alone a system where you physically can’t catch up unless you have time to raid and do visions on more than one character. Multiple raid groups as your group likely won’t raid twice a week.
Stupid catch up mechanics honestly.
Man there is no point of defending it. I want to play more with my alts but whenever I think about that 13 weeks block, I just log out go to my mains which already have rank 15 + bonus resistance.
For PvP it sucks straight up.
For PvE though essences come fairly fast from echos.
Corruption is now on a somewhat of a rotation and purchasable on top of all the corrupted gear every week.
2-3 weeks after cap you can be fairly well off and competitive unless you want to jump straight into a mid/late tier mythic boss, and well if you are in a guild capable of that then they are probably also carrying your alt through spam 15s for echos and gear as well.
Tbh I’m in favor of systems that reward someone sticking and progressing a main over fotm chasing.

That’s the bare minimum of stuff though, probably like 2hrs per week of effort. If you do your weekly key and cap conquest you can get another 2k with maybe another 2hrs of effort. And if you really want to tryhard you can grind M+/Arenas to get way more than that. I almost have enough echos on one of my alts to buy full BiS corruption already.

Uhhh… Takes 2-3 weeks to just get your cloak to max even if your spamming the dailies. CVS are still time gated. Another 1-2 weeks waiting for your corruption to come up and grinding echos for essences and corruptions. Your clears are still gated by momentos tech.
Unless you can play an insane amount it’s taking closer to a month to be “competitive”. Definitely didn’t take me that long to get “competitive” in wrath.
Tbh I’m in favor of systems that reward someone sticking and progressing a main over fotm chasing
Except for me it actually limits me to playing fotm. Think I’d bother to play an affy warlock right now? Or my balance druid? I literally only have time to play one character so I’m going to play the fotm thing and that’s all I’m going to play.
In wod I played everything. I had litteraly every class at max and played every spec in every comp. In bfa, despite having infinitely more time thanks to covid, I have 2. One is fotm me monk because they’re strong, despite preferring priest. Trust me man this does not reduce form rerollers.
fotm chasing
That’s not at all what alts are about for most people.
This isn’t just about alts though. BfA was one of the least popular expansions. Many people just came back and started playing it in the past few months because there’s a global pandemic. That’s also likely why you’ve suddenly seen Blizzard make some minor QoL changes because they don’t want to piss off this large group of returning players who are potential SL players.

This is only useful for alts who already farmed the essences in their original content.
A lot of people want vitality conduit and conflict and strife for example who never got them before. Many people will either have to pug a raid they’ve never set foot in or do 21 weeks of LFR for VC. C&S is just obnoxious for anyone who doesn’t like rated PvP, which is shame since it’s very useful in many parts of the game outside of rated PvP just as VC is extremely powerful outside of raiding.

So one more corruption… So you’re 4 weeks behind instead of 8. Awesome.
. And if you really want to tryhard you can grind M+/Arenas to get way more than that
Then you’re not playing your main… Unless you again have insane amounts of time. The point stands that even if you had a boa cloak you’d be very far behind. 4 weeks ish, if you’re lucky.
Then on top of that we have a time gated cloak catch up? The point is that it makes no sense. For the “muh main” people, you don’t have to worry you still have a giant head start
Due to Blizzards cloak catch up post today that blatantly ignored the issues with this time gate, we should consider getting the 99% (of their monthly subscribers) together to create a petition on the Change organization so the higher ups will actually have a chance to listen to the issues. Maybe it is wishful thinking, but it is worth a shot. Spread the news throughout Azeroth. And start tweeting to WarcraftDevs and Ion Hazzikostas on Twitter before it is to late.
Thanks! I needed a good laugh. And I assume by your comment you mean what’s “relevant” to you.

I agree that it makes no sense, but I think its the CR upgrade that’s the limiting factor and not Echoes. I did some quick math and if I did all my Visions, I’d have 150K total echos accumulated between what I currently have and spent and the Visions. If you’ve been actively playing it shouldn’t be an issue at all.
but I think its the CR upgrade that’s the limiting factor
Definitely my biggest gripe. I don’t know a second group or have the time to raid a second time a week. Makes no sense.

That’s pretty nuts man… Not sure how you got that much. Last week on my main I was only able to afford 6 gushing (roughly 24-30k echos). I did my arena cap mostly via arenas and my mandatory 15+. No heroic raid as we were on a break week. Did all my emissaries and assaults. Did my 3 visions for the week.
I think 20-40k is going to be way more common in a week than 150k… So if you want essences and corruptions you’re still gonna be gated for a few weeks.

I should clarify, that’s across all my characters (I have about 1m CV account wide 40k echos currently and spent 30k), but its enough to get 9x 12% stat amp on 3 characters already.
I…don’t think this is petition worthy, but it does suck.
Can’t imagine the perspective of someone who actually thinks cape catch up is in a good place. You’re wrong, but I don’t have the energy to try to help you understand why.
Why? Some players feel there should be no catch-up, ever. Part of the desire for classic was to go back to WoW before all the qol was added.

Do you not understand a bell curve?
Echoes are way too slow of a farm. We should be able to farm multiple sets of corruptions per character in a reasonable amount of time.
Your definition of reasonable is different than what everyone else’s is. I think the 20k echos I get a week playing casually is pretty reasonable.

Maybe at least Tweet to WarcraftDevs and Ion Hazzikostas worthy?
That? Most definitely.

The most lucrative source of echoes is spamming arena 3s and just tanking your rating so you always win. It’s 1k+ an hour and is infinitely farmable.
