Please clarify how wintergrasp works?

I’m on Benediction, 99% alliance. I have two accounts. Both of my characters on these accounts were on separate layers, I queued a WG on my paladin, we ended up winning. After that was over, I queued up on my druid before WG ended and also won. My friend queued a WG at the same time as my paladin (we were in separate WG instances) he ended up winning his very fast.

Once WG ended, none of our chars, across 3 different layers had the buff. I fly over to Wintergrasp and it is horde controlled on all 3 of these layers. Why is this happening / what am I missing here? This happened a week or 2 ago also. Seemingly every layer on a 99% alliance server had horde controlled WG.

horde is simply Better

Wintergrasp is a buggy POS. It took me two days to turn in a quest because of the same thing.

You need to wait until :30 on the hour you played, sometimes it bugs you and you have to wait longer.

I’ve never seen it not swap at all, although it’s possible, on Benediction and you winning games that’s unlikely.

Blizzard thought they were doing us a favor by giving changes we didn’t ask for. They thought we did, but we didn’t. In their misguided effort to try and give us help we didn’t want or ask for, they broke the game. Kinda par for the course really.

It’s been like two hours since I personally won in WG. It hasn’t rolled over for either char. I joined a 25 man VoA as I type this and nobody has wg / came from a layer with it. Multiple people in raid said they won in the last WG but also never got the buff.

That’s interesting, maybe something happened today. If so that’s good you brought it up.

" In Wrath of the Lich King Classic, this works in a fairly simple way, if anyone on your faction participates in and wins a Battle for Wintergrasp, your entire faction is granted the Essence of Wintergrasp and the buff will last until the next time the battle is initiated."

The only game that matters is the last game played.

It’s happened on my server as well. No layer is Alliance after we’ve won WG.

That’s what we’re saying. Didn’t work that way.

Won. No buff. No access to VOA on ANY layer on the server.

When they say “The next time the battle is initiated” they are saying the next battle that happens after 3 hours, not the next group to queue into the same 30 minutes.

What are you basing that on? Because how I described it is how it functions. Arugal alliance OC took to spamming LFG chat “queue at XX:25 or later” to increase likelihood of winning the last game, rather than having 5-10 alliance versing 100+ horde.

When they say “until the next time the battle is initiated” the gameplay reflects that meaning the next game starting, not the next queue window.

The battle for wintergrasp occurs once every 3 hours.

You are just misinterpreting it.

As long as one person on your server wins the battle in the 30 minute queue period, you get the essence of wintergrasp buff.

If that is not happening, then it is bugged for your server.

No WG buff on Grobb this lockout, something is up.
Everyone has been screaming for a WG controlled layer for 2 hours.

Unless we all actually lost.

So both factions on your realm always have the buff, right? Unless there’s just none of the opposite faction on your realm?

It functions exactly as I described, which accurately fits Blizzard’s one and only statement on the matter: For the duration of any games, until the last game played by a player from your server for that Wintergrasp Window, the Essence buff is “in flux” and comes and goes as games are played.

But your server is different? You win a game at say, 9:15 AM and you can instantly travel to Wintergrasp and don’t get the “You will be teleported, go queue, come back later” popup. Do you get the portal there, too?

No, OCE is a special case and yours is actually broken.

INTENDED functionality is as long as 1 person of your faction on your realm wins during that lockout, ALL get the buff until next cycle. So basically yes, both factions always control.

How does that work with the world zone? Is it instanced between horde and alliance? You both get your own fortress and can’t see the opposite faction?

Yes exactly that. As soon as you fly near the fortress it becomes phased to your faction if eligible. Which is big sad, you never get to pvp in the keep during downtime anymore.

I have seen it for certain and witnessed a dual set of NPCs in the outside camp when it was even more buggy.

Last I heard OCE alliance was being entirely denied their Keep due to some bug.
Probably why y’all have to very carefully win at the last minute.

So I have been looking through other “Wintergrasp is bugged for OCE” to find that it’s not just OCE servers, others experience it too. The explanation is actually kinda simple. It “stops caring” after the 30 minute window, which allows both factions to simultaneously have the buff if both factions have the population to both win games after that window. OCE doesn’t, and nor do certain other battlegroups (at least not always) judging from similar complaints from non OCE realms.

Hazzah, we’re both right?

I do love WG My guild que for a shot at Voa sure we lost but I had a blast sorry to the players who got one shot to that buff with 8 vs 109 horde was nuts.

I’d like to know this, too. Is Wintergrasp per layer or per server? On Benediction, right now at least 3 layers are horde controlled, and I don’t know how is it even possible.
