Blizz banning MB software has really emboldened some of these purists.
Tbf multiboxing was pretty cancerous. 1 Priest 4 Mage multiboxing bots destroyed Classicâs economy, and I personally have dealt with a multiboxer who ran 80 accounts for wpvp. You ever get hit with 80 Curse of Agonies followed by 80 Corruptions? Or get hit with 80 Howling Blasts.
Pretty anti-fun ngl.
Edit: Forgot to mention, heâd crash the zone if he started losing. He personally killed the entirity of Tanaan Jungle many times because we would just surround him and spam Death Grip/Gorefiendâs grasp, and cause his characters to become misaligned, which drastically dropped his killing power. In response, he spam dropped banners, toy trains, fireworks, etc, to internally psuedo ddos the server and crash it just so he wouldnât âloseâ.
Peak levels of neckbeard.
I agree that at the end there was more bad than good, however, saying it was all bad is debatable. In live I would occasionally dual box a Druid / Priest combo for both leveling and gearing. This allowed me to fill both the tank and healer roll of a dungeon. A great many leveling DPS either didnt notice that I was dualboxing, or if they did greatly appreciated the effort I was putting in to decrease their que times.
I know that I was not the only one doing things like this, but it takes ALOT of effort to manage 2 different rotations and positions manually at the same time ⌠so seeing it done properly was rare.
MOST of the muli-boxers where less than benevolent, but not all.
Iâm not trying to say that everyone who boxed was scum, but I feel like most players donât have good experiences with multiboxers, whether it be seeing multi boxing running 5 man content in the sole intent to mass generate raw gold, or seeing bots abuse it for the same, or dealing with boxers in pvp, where one man has two, three times the power of a normal player. If I boxed two rogues, while they wouldnât be perfectly aligned with abilities, having one Cheap Shot and the other Ambush, having the first hemo into a Kidney while the other Backstabs into an Evis would be anti-fun for anyone I ran across. I mean, I already play Rogue. By nature just one is anti-fun, but atleast itâs fightable.
I donât think Iâd have a problem with dual boxing, but anything more than two and it provides one single player too much power in a game with team work in mind.
Iâd say the 80 accounts and that entire situation is pretty rare⌠I once saw 40 boomkins (rediculous). Other than that, no more than 5
anywayâŚ
âadmitting that the addon isnât automationâ Lol it literally is automation in every sense of the word. Whether you think itâs ok or not, claiming itâs ânot automationâ is completely absurd.
And im not mad, at all⌠just annoyed. Instead of sit and whine in game and do nothing, I brought the topic here to try to make a change. Not whine for the sake of whining like people such as you.
âhe goes and ignores the creator the addon to protect his own little bubble and to double down on wanting to be in an echo chamberâ
I ignored A SUPPOSED creator of an addon, who was clearly trolling, and then admitted twice that he was.
Ok, so there is a mis-understanding of terminology so let me attempt to clarify it.
Automation is - the technique of making an apparatus, a process, or a system operate automatically.
By that definition ALL addons that do not trigger off of a hardware event are forms of automation. So yes, under that definition my code would be considered automation ⌠but so would DBM, most of TSM, Details, pretty much everything in Weakauras, Questie, Various parts of Bagnon, Pawn ⌠etc etc etc.
Now, the more relevant definition what automation is disallowed by blizzard? Blizzard has defined non-allowed automation as:
- Third party code (running outside wow that modifies gameplay)
- Any time 1 keypress can lead to more than one combat action based upon non-human decisions (for the reasons of combat) eg: macros like AutoRogue / OneButtonHunterRotation
- Any time 1 keypress results in more than 1 combat action eg: Mulibox key-cloning
- Character being controlled without any input from the player.
This last one is a bit tricky, because its hard to say if chat is or is not considered character control. But it basically boils down to 2 things:
- Does the api require a hardware event? (if no its generally fine)
- Does the automation in some way harass another player?
In the case of my code, it does not. If someone asks for a given service ⌠providing them that service is not a form of harassment.
TL;DR - Are most addons forms of automation? Yes! Are most addons forms of allowed automation? Also Yes! The enchanting auto invite is a form of allowed automation.
Again, I am not the creator of the addon: enchanter ⌠rather I wrote a piece of code that predates it by 2 years and never published because I was pretty sure it would cause the mass whispers people are getting today ⌠and I foresaw this annoying people (even though they didnt really have a reason to be annoyed).
I also happen to be the Author of a handful of other things:
WF Now! - https://wago.io/6lkNDc0xP
Enchant Clickables - https://wago.io/17ZQgjA3y
The orig FollowMe - https://wago.io/_b9_wSMPY (though this one is also unpublished and spread primarly via ingame linking)
If you doubt me, make a level 1 on Herod and ask in trade chat if anyone knows Nagee
or EqualsThree
in ref to Enchanting. I am the OG, the original, the first person on the scene. I had enchanting as a profession before it was cool. People still wisper me on Fail-ina and ask me if I am Nagee simply due to me being perched on top of org bank south spire.
I was doing auto-invites for Enchanting before mages where doing auto-invites for portals in Kargath.
Nagee is my alt now and my new main is SwĂŽftthĂŽstle
Yeah Iâm not saying 80 is in any way a majority of multiboxers, atleast not for a normal player whoâs boxing.
I got into the game when I was young, and since raiding was a max level thing and pvp was an option since level 10, I got into pvp. From tbc to when war mode was introduced, I always loved pvp more than pve, and I dealt with boxers every expansion. Outside of 200 versus boxer with 80 accounts, it was always pretty much unwinnable, and anti fun. You generally just didnât beat them because it was no longer a 1v1, its a 1v1 with the second â1â having the power of 2 or 3 or 5 characters. That was a pretty standard norm and I feel like most people who dealt with it have the same sentiments of it just not being fun to deal with. Its a roving gank squad except way more coordinated.
In the most technical sense, sure, it is, and so is DBM then, so is Bigwigs, so is questie, so is TSM.
An addon most people forget is the Sapped addon, but I havent forgotten it. Its the nifty little addon where your character automatically says âSappedâ when they get sapped. Youâll be surprised at how many people see someone get sapped by run on by but with that addon they do turn around and wait. That addon by the most technical definition is automation.
I believe swiftthistle on this when he dropped the API. Like I know the bare basics of coding, I know how to say Hello World. Other than that, pffft got me bro. So if he did the work, sees what blizzard allows as macros in their own code, and is able to make a weak aura that doesnât break anything internally, then it more than likely is allowed. You just want to split hairs because youâre mad.
And thats where youâre wrong. You think Blizzard has listened to these forums since 09?
This is the same company that said âYou think you do, but you donâtâ after they shut down Nostalrius and boasted about how they wouldnât do classic servers.
This is the same company that looked dedicated PC gamers in the eyes and told them about a mobile Diablo that would have no PC port.
This is the same company that remastered a legendary game, ruined it, and took away features the original had.
But you think theyâre going to go into the forums, the wow forums, the tbc forums specifically, a game they want nothing to do with, a game that is supposed to be a museum peice that just passively makes money via boosts and players paying a retail sub for tbcc, a game that has way bigger issues than a single addon that makes everyoneâs (but enchanters who donât have it) lives easier?
If you wanted to say you werenât mad at the start of this conversation, sure, I could see it, but now? Nah homie, youre splitting hairs and doubling down in an attempt to just get people on your side at this point.
Yet here is he clearly saying that he was the OG with the OG weak aura and while the addon itself isnât him, he was running his code prior which serves the exact same purpose.
You ignored him because you know you canât argue against him.
