The RestedXP addon requires payment for levels 30+, violating the UI Add-On Development Policy.
- Add-ons must be free of charge.
All add-ons must be distributed free of charge. Developers may not create “premium” versions of add-ons with additional for-pay features, charge money to download an add-on, charge for services related to the add-on, or otherwise require some form of monetary compensation to download or access an add-on.
- They’ve created a premium version.

Sorry, but the Addon itself is free and that is what counts, Addons are free to charge money for data/content. This is why addons like Zygor, and RaidIO are allowed to have paid content.
As long as you are free to download the addon for free, the addon creators can charge for data or content in said addon all they want.

Addon is free. Guide is not. You are free to make your own guide if you so wish.

I want to post a meme gif or something but I can’t even bother with it.

this is less of an issue than my complaint about the unarmored mounts not being implemented

Interesting, thanks for letting me know @Littlerascal & @Kurogano. It seems that charging for guides that get integrated into the addon doesn’t fit into “charge for services related to the add-on” either?

this reminds me of all those cringe level guide advertisements from back in the day

Like that’s the literal interpretation of the rule but the spirit of the rule is positively no paid for addons, if the addon utilizes a paid service as a component of its features to achieve full function then in reality it’s infringing on the spirit of the rules.
But it’s all meaningless rules, blizzard changes the rules all willy nilly without any care so at the end of the day ya may as well just throw blizzards rules out the window unless it will get ya perma- banned.

RestedXP even has a net positive of being Opensource and available via Github. While we can have access to Dugi or Zygor, it’s not opensource or available via an repo.

But that is the key point. All of these addon do have full functionailty for free. For example. Zygor allows you to create and/or download any guides you want to use in the addon and the addon is free to download and will work just fine with said guides as long as they are formatted properly.
So both in spirit and literal interpretation, the addon is fully functional for free.
What you pay for is Zygor’s own pre-created and formatted guides for use inside the addon. But again, they are not required for the addon to work.

While true it’s built with their guide in mind. Sure it’s technically true that you could use any guid but we know the point of the addon. It’s a tool used to sell the guide designed to function with it.
Why I say the spirit of the rule is A and the lawyered up interpretation can be B.
Neither interpretation matters unless someone is willing to police the rules.
And there is NOTHING wrong with that at all.

Not really, if you know enough about the company and their github links, all their guides are actually free, you just have to download them and format them yourself. The paid service is for the lazy people who do not want to spend time downloading 30+ guides and formatting them.
I get you trying to help Little, but as much as I love using Zygor, their repos are not public or easy to find at all.
Yeah, I know, but the point is still valid, as long as said guide is formattted properly, any guide can be used with the tool.
Do they want you to buy theirs, sure, but is it required for full functionality, no.
hey guys, were giving away a free car but you have to pay for the engine.
I gotta agree with the OP… I think it crosses a line.
Like sure I’ll pay a tiny premium fee to askmrrobot because the addon is about getting information out of the game easier into their system and providing that service outside of wow. This addon is an augment to the game itself telling you where to go… if it exists purely in a website on a second screen that does not interact with wow (like askmrrobot) I say fine charge whatever for access to your website.
Well addons like Zygor have been doing this same model for years, if Blizzard really had a problems with it, they would have shut them down a long time ago.
