Seal twisting Seal of Command with Seal of the Martyr in TBC was unironically the most fun rotation I’ve ever played on any spec in any version of WoW so far. It had a high skill ceiling, but was fairly easy to pick up, and felt extremely smooth. Unlike many other unusual interactions (like totem twisting in the same expansion, for example) it felt engaging and satisfying rather than annoying and clunky. Plus the feeling when you landed a perfect twist and saw an explosion of crits fly across the screen as your melee procced windfury, seal of command, and a martyr strike for each was absolutely unmatched.
Please make Seal of Command persist for 0.4 seconds when swapping to another seal as it did in TBC Classic, it would make Ret incredibly fun to play. It would also give us a reason to pick Seal of Martyrdom, as right now it’s not really worth using on its own over Seal of Command when you could take Divine Storm in the same slot.
2-way twisting could be considered, but honestly it worked very well in TBC as one-way (command->martyr only).
Edit: I know seal twisting sounds like “poor design” in a vacuum because it requires weakauras or addons to track the timing. But it’s one of those situations where textbook game design principles =/= fun. I had the same concerns that it would be clunky, awkward, unreliable, whatever before TBC came out. But when I actually had a chance to try it, all those concerns vanished immediately because seal twisting is extremely fun. You might compare it to autoshot weaving for hunters, it’s a much more interesting way to play the game than just mindlessly mashing buttons on CD.
Also, assuming Divine Storm shares a slot with Seal of the Martyr, it seems entirely possible for both playstyles to be supported even for those few people who actually don’t like twisting (rather than just the idea of twisting in a white room, having never given it a shot, which is most of the complaints I’ve seen). The non-twisting playstyle will have more cleave and probably fairly competitive single target from DS.
A viable non twisting option would be very welcome as well. a rotation that requires the usage of unreliable weakuaras or addons is frankly not the best design. I’m not a twisting fan and would rather not be pigeon holed because people on a class discord are clamoring for it.
Respectfully, I disagree that the addition of twisting would “pigeon hole” Rets into that playstyle. Players routinely reject a given playstyle even when that style is considered the meta (think earlier in Wrath when some Hunters refused to trapweave or some Ferals refused to do the latest weave tech).
In other words, the lowest common denominator is already accounted for without twisting. You get Crusader Strike, Divine Storm, and Seal of Command, which, without being overly critical, plays like a watered-down version of WOTLK Ret.
I think twisting is a welcome addition for those of us who, like OP identified, love the unique, smooth, and rewarding experience that twisting offers. It permits skilled players to push the envelope in a way that Ret in Vanilla and WOTLK simply can’t.
I think twisting and other things should and can exist. We can have twisting and stuff that’s completely new. Some things will be better than the others obviously. I’m just here to say that we should have options.
From 4sec Crusader Strike triggering Seal to 6sec Crusader Strike not triggering Seal because twisting (Blizzcon showcase).
Meanwhile there’s probably going to be more classes with less “weave these between your auto attack to get proper damage” using probably 1 or 2 buttons. But that’s Classic, right? Reward the ones using less buttons?
Yeah… and I like the current simplicity… not having to micro manage multiple seals. For reference long time player here, since 2002. If you want more buttons retail is available.
Fair, but you can still play the way you want with twisting - just pick Divine Storm instead of SotM and don’t do it.
Also, by that logic, you yourself shouldn’t be playing SoD. The “go to retail” argument isn’t particularly helpful when changes have already been made to Vanilla.
OMG NONONONON I absolutely hate seal twisting It’s basically just snapshot manipulation that’s what it is no.
You see it’s the most fun I didn’t touch ret in tbc Because of that If anything I would like to see them go more towards wrath.
Designed way more before I would ever want to see seal twisting If you guys want it that bad, maybe they can make a room of some type to implement it I don’t want it done on the back end because.
Then that indirectly forces everybody else to have to use it You say it’s fun I say it’s annoying and miserable Heck I’ll go as far as say I’d rather have holy power and Is templars verdict put in before that.
Blizzard place do not listen to this guy do not put seal twisting in Please.
Seal twisting is without a doubt the most fun I’ve had with ret. I hate wotlk ret and divine storm blows. Let people who want to use it use it, and let people who to twis, twist.
Ok Fine put a seal twisting in the slot that has divine storm and add Your seals last 30 Minutes to the rune.
I despise seal twisting it’s not fun its just Snapshotting that’s all it is wrath ret and hek cata ret and mop ret welll 99999% Better than tbc and Classic.
You have divine storm. Play with divine storm. We have the ability to have both. They aren’t mutually exclusive. Nobody wants to take your divine storm away.
You completely missed my point Seal twisting if they put it in is swimming on the back end.
Meaning if you want seal twisting Fine you can have it on the same ruine slot As divine storm Since That way, I can have my divine storm. And you can have your seal twisting I don’t want to have to do it.
At least with holy power it’s an actual rotation Not a stupid snapshot it’s the same reason I hate heroic strike chewing on warriors and that Stupid Double chain lightning that shaman do.
It’s all snapshot manipulation It’s not fun at least I don’t think so why you find it fun beyond me I would rather have an actual rotation like I’m not a fan of holy power.
But I would rather have that than seal twisting You build a resource and use it on a finisher That’s more intuitive than Snap shouting two seals together
Which lets be honest ultimately leads to a macro So The less macro managemen I have to do the happier Im.
