Reason i am asking is because i will be moving to Korea for a couple of months and would not like to have bad ping. so i want to start getting everything ready
Manage to head over to the Korean Battle net and made an account told me to download bnet. it is the same bnet i already use. so maybe i thought i need to sign in with the bnet i made on the Korean site and pick Asian servers but none of it is korean. Any help?
There are more and more Asian players who move to US servers to play PVP these days, so you don’t really need to worry about the ping. It would be 100-200 ping but still acceptable for gameplay.
You’d probably need to make a Korean-region starter account to play there, but you could do so toward the bottom of this page.
To be clear, this will result in you creating a completely different World of Warcraft account.
It is not possible to move your existing World of Warcraft account to a different region.
I seem to recall needing a Korean Social Security Number (or an Alien Registration Number) to sign up for, speaking generally, most online services.
You can try continuing connecting to US servers? I raided in Wrath doing that.
While I was in China I did log into the US server but man it was so slow; I couldn’t run anything or quest but I could run my auctions which was mainly what I wanted at the time but that was 9 years ago.
The Oceanic realms are in Australia now. You might not get the latency issues with accessing them.
Does not work, gives me an option to make a NA, EU and TW(Asian) starter. Still not a korean account option.
The TW(Asia) one is probably what you’re looking for.
Nope, None of the realm provided are korean, all the realms listed in the TW looks to be in Chinese according to google translate.
You can’t play on Chinese or Korean server unless you actually live there. They have very strict rules on computer gaming. IIRC you need some sort of code, like your social security number, to create an account in Korea.
awww well thank you, guess ill will just wait till i move there to start everything. thanks
There’s value is checking out Oceanic servers while you’re there, the latency is probably on par or slightly less than connecting to US servers. It would mean you retain your account, achievements, mounts etc. And any progress made while in Korea is also retained for when you head home.
As an added bonus, the time zones are similar enough (give or take two hours). =)
Are you sure about this? Please tell me how you came to know about this. Might there be an equivalent check for international players?

It looks like I can buy the game right there, but I’m worried to do it only to find that I have no way of playing it. I’m aware that you have to buy another copy of the game to play on american servers if you live in europe, and it looks like the same thing for asian (taiwan) but there is no entry for korea.
The fact that I was able to find the page where I can buy the korean game gives me hope, though there isn’t any mention of needing a social security number on that page that I can see.
It isn’t a game-specific thing, but rather a regional thing.

I can’t vouch for the accuracy of it, but it’s an interesting read.
I live in China at the moment for work, and still play on the US servers, albeit my ping is sometimes and issue. Your bnet will allow you to select the region you want to play on, US, EU, Korea or China. You should have access to your current expansion and be able to use it. The only thing in China that is different is that you actually have to have a Chinese account to log into bnet in China. Beyond that I don’t think you’ll have any problem. If you are worried about ping rates or if they are bad you can always get a vpn. That has helped me keep a low ping rate. The poster who said it was between 100-200 ms well that varies while I don’t specifically know about Korea I know that with my vpn playing on American servers I get between 200-300 average. Which is very easily playable. On the Chinese server I get 38 ms usually.
Teensy bit of a necro here. If there is a question or issue you may have, it’s probably best to make a new thread rather than revive something that has been dormant for over a year.
Hi! I’m an American living in Korea for the past three years. If you’re military you will not be able to play on the korean servers period. If you’re coming to be a teacher you should get an “ARC” “Alien registration card” and register it with your cell phone provider. That will allow you to register for Korean WoW as your cell phone will be linked with your ARC. If you’re military affiliated you will not be able to get an ARC as you don’t qualify.
I googled to see which servers were hosted out of CA as there is a direct fiber route korea <–> California and we get the lowest latency “140-180” usually. It still sucks but it is what it is.
“If you’re military affiliated you will not be able to get an ARC as you don’t qualify.”
This is not necessarily true - As U.S. Military - if you have a U.S. Passport and obtain an A-3 SOFA visa, you can get an ARC and in turn a Korean Battle.net account. I can’t post links but if you Google 8th Army Legal Services and click on “Legal” and then “Visa/SOFA Stamp Services” and then click on the “Alien Registration Card” link to get a PDF detailing how to obtain one. (Korean Physical Address is one of the requirements, however even if you live on base - I believe you can get a physical address for the base - not 100 percent sure on that as I lived off base while there.)
I had 2 issues playing on Korean servers:
1 - The game is provided free there but you have to buy game time - multiple ways to pay for it (Korean Bank, Korean Credit Card, Korean registered Smart Phone, etc) - I ended up buying Korean Battle.net currency cards at the local 7/11 or CU convenience stores and paid for my sub or game time.
2 - I did use the Western Client in English and the latency was 6ms!!. The other players all typed in Korean so finding a group to do activity with was a bit hard at first. I did encounter quite a few friendly English speaking Koreans that helped me out however I ended up joining a KATUSA friends guild and was able to do most content.
*This was a few years ago tho - so your mileage may vary

That’s good information. Thanks, Yaesuf - people seem to keep stumbling across this thread and so it’s good to have here.
Continuing to play on US servers isn’t so bad, though. Your latency isn’t any worse than what the Australians used to deal with. ^~
