I know the feeling, I feel sick inside with how much i give blizzard money over the years. and yet i enjoy the game
Hell, if everyone had an SSD it would improve the gameplay for all people if those people do group content
But i’m not going to force anything, some people don’t understand the benefits of them.
I’m hoping there’s a hybrid of the regular hard drive and the SSD in the future: SSDs have greater storage, last longer, etc. For many people, especially right now, money will be the deciding factor.
I have to get a new hard drive. The one I got in 2009 was hefty for its time; it’s not anymore. I would like to get a SSD, but unless the Lottery Fairy leaves me a winning ticket, it’s not going to happen. I’ll go with my 1 or 2 terabyte hd and be content.
Because hearing or reading that’s the reason for doing less dps than a low-geared healer or why they didn’t move out of the bad stuff time and again is beyond old. As is someone “dc’d” and the reason is “my comp died”. And that’s not even accounting for Arena. Their toaster is dragging down the rest of the group, but they don’t care.
If they stuck to solo content where performance issues affect them and them alone, then no one would care. But when other people are involved, those things are likely to be a hindrance to those other people. At best making it more difficult to get the job done, but more often than not causing so many wipes (unless you’re paying for a carry, but that’s a different story).
Hybrid drives have existed for while. I have a 7200RPM Hybrid drive. Has a SSD portion for cache and the mechanical disk portion for storage.
Players already invest lots into this game. Its called a monthly sub. Its where they make there billions from. They get no money from getting players to upgrade pc’s, so why they would want to push that to the limits is beyond me,
Didn’t know that! I’ll bring it up with my computer repair shop in October. (They’re only seeing people by appointment, and September’s money is already spent.) Hopefully the fix for my sudden lack of any sound won’t be horrible and I’ll have a larger budget to haggle with.
They’re still not really comparable to a actual SSD, the drive just uses a small SSD portion to cache files recently or frequently used.
For sound issues have you checked the sound settings and made sure the right thing is set as default?
Screw you video card driver updates and your need to switch output to my monitor
Oh man it took me a few reads of that then I finally realized what you meant. I haven’t had that issue recently with driver updates.
I absolutely LOATHE driver updates for 911 centers where they have 4 different audio outputs between radio and phone and 1 update has me out there fixing it…
It doesn’t happen that often lol, just something that bothers me when it does, the major one that happens to me is every time i plug my ps4 controller in it loves to take over as sound device and i’m like… what the heck? lol
Are you saying I can’t play this game on Windows 94 on an integrated GPU anymore?
I’m going to fax Blizzard a strongly worded letter after this, let me get the typewriter out.
You know, i betting you could still PLAY with a top integrated GPU… now i’m curious
Before I taught my daughters to drive I showed them how to put the spare tire on and basic maintenance. They had to demonstrate these skills to me before driving anywhere.
Proven, huh?
I grease and change the oil and filter on multiple vehicles and can do it for 12 - 13 dollars per change depending on the price of the oil.
Even if I could get it done cheaper somewhere else I would do it myself as it’s a perfect opportunity to check things over while you’re at it.
As far as the disposal you can burn it in most states w/a waste oil burner. Free heat. If that’s not your jam, there are places all over that will take used oil free.
XP was great, but 10 is pretty great for most users now (as long as you disable Cortana/ Xbox stuff / info sharing…)
Pretty sure anywhere that does oil changes has to accept used oil, may be a law, idk, but walmart takes used oil for free
I find it funny just how many people are explaining the absolute basics to me after I note I wrench on my motorbike and already do a number of stuff on my car, as if theor words are gonna be some incredible ephiany or something. Does it REALLY offend your sensibilities so that I don’t think everyone should have take a basic mechanics course or completely build and know how a computer works just to play a video game? Do you know the basics to your television? Your stove? Your microwave? Your AC? All your plumbing? By the Light you people people are nuts.
Hell, if everyone had an SSD it would improve the gameplay for all people if those people do group content

I’m not sure it is about forcing the issue. As I said in the OP… If the game WILL play on an HDD, then SSD isn’t the minimum and they should change it. If, when it goes live, it WILL require an SSD… I think an explanation is owed, and I do think we are getting to a point in tech cycle where an SSD drive (even if not a main drive) should be a component is just about every pc. a basic SSD will plug right into one of the SATA ports that are standard on all motherboards since 2011.
I understand where people are coming from when it comes to be reticent to upgrade on account of a game. up until Legion, I was playing wow on a AMD FX8300, GTX 650ti, a 5 year old 500gb HDD and 8gb of ram. When legion launched, I had to upgrade my GPU… I went cheap and bought a 1050ti. It did work, and it even worked into BfA, but it was noticably worse. in a turn of events, at around the time I got my tax refund… My system basically died. GPU burned, CPU was on it’s last leg… etc. Made the decision it was time for a build. still went budget: 1600x, 8gb ram, HDD for storage… But I also added SSD for applications (OS/WoW and a couple other games I play) and got a deal on a 1660ti. As someone who spent years getting “just enough” I understand completely. With all that said… It is my opinion that even as a single-piece upgrade, an SSD might be the best (literally best) investment to output upgrade almost anyone can make.
honestly, I learned out of necessity. Car needed oil/filter change, new brake pads. Had $300 for the month. Also needed inspection. Oil change would have been 60 to 80, brakes would have been 250 to 300… If I went to shop. Took a couple days to learn how to do it: 5qts of oil was only $22, Fram oil filter was $7 (so under $30 now). Front and Rear pads cost a total of $50 (wanted nice ceramic). And paid NO labor. cost me some time, some blood (literally, cut myself on the brake clip haha)… but every ended up working out… Total cost: $80 for all parts, saved over $250. That’s enough for a mid-range GPU (to kind of tie this back to the topic of the thread).
I suppose this would also be a good time for people to read this: If you are still not working, as a result of COVID situation. NOW is a great time to learn new skills. Things that will save you money, and in some cases… Even time. There might NEVER be a better time than the last 6mo.
honestly, I learned out of necessity.
This is the scariest way to learn sometimes! My clutch cable snapped on a motorbike trip. Boy that was fun getting home. Thankfully I learned how to clutchles shift so I was able to get home, and now I carry a small tool kit, which includes a spare clutch cable.
