Player reporting options differ based on location/group?

when in a party or instance(?), you can only report someone for Name, and Communication. When someone is not in your party or you are in the world, you can report for Name, Communication, and Gameplay Sabotage.

there are specific instances, while in a group, where sabotage is applicable. once a person does a sabotaging behavior and leaves the group, you can no longer target them to report.

I would like to be able to provide feedback to players violating the player’s code, and provide accurate reports instead of shoe-horning them into other categories.

Please direct your suggestions and feedback either by using the in-game suggestions and feedback tool or perhaps in the appropriate forum(s). I’m not sure if you’re experiencing this in regular PvE scenarios or in PVP situations, so please choose the better of the two forums where you can leave the information for the Devs and their teams.

The Cheating category is available through their portrait, because Blizzard does not want people reporting chat lines for Cheating, or a popular tactic in the past, doing a /who for a certain location or class and reporting everyone.

If for some reason there is legitimate cheating that you actually witnessed, but you are unable to use the in-game methods to report, you can e-mail the information to hacks@blizzard.com

its not cheating, its players intentionally pulling way too many enemies, dying, swearing at the group, then leaving a dungeon that ive seen mostly.

its more than the normal amount when doing keys and being efficient with time, its malicious stuff.

The only thing in there that’s actionable is the swearing, which would be reporting their chat line for Language.

Side note: if it’s something like a Hunter training mobs onto the healer, then leaving, maybe it’s something they will look at. But a player having different expectations about the speed of completing the dungeon is not sabotage. It’s best to just put them on ignore so you (hopefully) won’t be grouped with them again.

is less about the speed - im ok with going fast. I dont think an assessment of the issue/infraction is appropriate, this post is about what is and isnt possible in the UI; and that when things happen that may need reported, it is not possible due to limited reporting options.

may be better suited for bugs and or suggestions as someone mentioned.

the actions the people ive run into the past few days are more in line of opposing this aspect of the social contract:

Behavior

Behavior that intentionally detracts from others’ enjoyment (such as griefing, throwing, feeding, etc.) is unacceptable. We expect our players to treat each other with respect and promote an enjoyable environment. Acceptable behavior is determined by player reports and Blizzard’s decision, and violating these guidelines will result in account and gameplay restrictions.

While we encourage you to report players that are behaving in a disrespectful manner, falsely reporting another player with the sole intent of restricting their gameplay is also unacceptable and will result in penalties to your account.

the intent of this post, is that I am unable to report on a player that goes against this, at the time of the actions due to the Report function being different if you’re in a group or not.

But what is/isn’t appropriate is directly related to the UI reporting options. As I said above:

When you click on the portrait, you can’t report for chat violations that way. Because seeing their portrait only means that they are in the vicinity of you, not that they have chatted or said anything actionable. You can report for cheating, and name violations through the portrait.

Likewise, when you’re clicking on chat lines, you can only report for chat or name violations. You cannot report for Cheating, because seeing a chat line is not seeing them actually do anything that you suspect would be cheating.

If there’s a reason to believe that something is not functioning as intended, then yes. But as you describe it, it sounds like it is functioning exactly as intended.

The “Social Contract” is nothing more than a reminder of the ToU and the rules everyone must follow. Nothing more, nothing less.

You feel that they violated a rule, and they may have. From what you describe, it doesn’t sound like it, but it could’ve been the way they were doing it (Hunter training mobs on a healer, then leaving, etc).

But this behavior passage is not about someone who plays the game differently than you. Pulling too many mobs, dying, leaving an instance is not breaking any rules. The swearing does break the rules, but to report those lines, you have to do it through the chat window for the reasons stated above.
