Player Housing

Here is an amazing new feature to sucker you in to buying the expansion!

Oh you wanted us to keep updating it? Hahaha, you’re funny. We’re already on to something else!

I could see all the bad things we expect happening:

  • Only 1 version per faction.
  • Only 1 area or zone.
  • Have to jump through hoops to earn and unlock.
  • Limited size to one room.
  • Everything already has a spot and we can’t move it (i.e. Onyxia’s head is the only thing that can go in that spot).
  • No exterior.
  • No way to build or add on.
  • All good decos locked behind high level raiding or pay walls.
  • FOMO somehow being applied so something we really want is only available during current expac and has RNG applied to the drop.
  • No pets, mounts or NPCs. Or too many pets, mounts or NPCs.
  • Decos bug out and won’t place.
  • Ties in only to the current expansion so it’s in a zone we’ll leave behind.

“Here’s player housing!”

“Here’s player housing where you can build your house only in one zone!”

“Here’s player housing where you can build your house only in one zone and there are only specific places you can put furniture!”

“Here’s the best furniture for player housing, locked behind raids!”

“Here’s the best furniture for player housing that isn’t locked behind raids, but it costs $65 in the in-game store!”

“Here’s the best furniture for player housing that isn’t locked behind raids or the in-game shop but you have to log in every day for an hour for twelve months!”

“Here’s the non-disclosure agreement you have to sign for getting player housing that gives us permission to come into your real house in real life and live in it like it’s ours! Your house will be our player housing!”

You can’t invite friends over unless your friends have completed some grueling pre-quest or achievement.

don’t forget:

  • limited wards and housing space
  • players can have multiple houses
  • you have to beat other players in an auction to get a housing plot

combine this all and every housing plot is owned by a scalping bot or a select group of people

Right, all of the above.

This is why I am begging Blizzard to communicate through this process.

Plunderstorm may have been better received if it was clearly communicated as to what it was, before it was released.

They really need to make clear what they are doing and what we are getting otherwise, this could turn into RealIDHateFest2025.

If you were here during the RealID situation, holy hell. The forums were literally exploding. There were actual news reports on CNN about how much of a clown show it was.

My first thought was to wonder if there was an official feedback thread on the “community council” forums.

Not only is there not one but the council members aren’t even discussing housing amongst themselves, that forum is dead.

It is clear that this “community council” charade must be done away with and the true power must take over. Blizzard should only answer to the wyrmrest accord forum cabal, for we are the ones actually discussing this

I would be fine with Stormwind and Orgrimmar as the only locations IF there was a promise to branch out later. On one hand, yes, we should have more than two housing spots. On the other hand, this is a huge undertaking and we can’t possibly have every single location at launch while still having reasonable dev hours. Basically, if you’re gonna start with capital cities only, just say you’ll be looking into expanding options later.

Maybe an EK and Kalimdor spot for each faction to start would also be a reasonable compromise, and we get a new option each year/patch/expansion.

Community Council is and always has been a farce. It appeared in that time when people didnt think they were being listened to, so they gave a bunch of random people a forum role and then never read any of what they were saying.

Which GOOD THING because most of them have dog doo doo opinions.

Holly Lonsdale interview has her saying they want it to last through “the next decades of WoW” (paraphrased). I’m hoping for the best, and a system that is iterated at a faster pace than in the past.

Speaking of which, they ARE improving Warbands, and it seems like we might get multiple groups (campfire thing?) on our log-in screen, so that’s something!

I have a bit higher hopes for this, because Player housing will be a huge cash cow for them, so I see them actually putting some effort in to it because of that.

BUT on that same front, it makes me worry that it will become too much of a cash shop thing and not in game obtainable.

Hi all. I am totally stoked by this announcement of housing. However, I am cautiously optimistic. I wonder if it’s too early to start searching for a DK friendly neighborhood.

…why would a dk want to live in a neighborhood?

That’s why they hang out in taverns. Or graveyards.

The Death Knights and Forsaken will both live in a little village called the Decayborhood.

I’m really just like anybody else. I still have dreams and aspirations. I don’t need much. Just a 3200 sq ft home in a beachfront community and within walking distance of shopping. I don’t need sleep so I would be happy to volunteer to run the neighborhood watch. I can guarantee that any community that welcomes me into the fold will never have to worry about vulp… umm… gno… oops… well, let’s just say that the neighborhood will never have to worry about any uhhh… rodent infestations. Oh, and my casseroles will always be the hit of any neighborhood block parties.
