Player housing

Please? Like, not garrisons. Rather: chooseable out of a list of location options, instanced, evergreen player housing you could invite your friends to visit. Its been 20 years blizz… Check out ESO for an example of how it could make you an insane amount of money by adding it to the game.

I’ll pass on player housing.

We can only sit back and hope that one day they’ll finally give in :woman_shrugging:

SWTOR also did it VERY well with Strongholds (11 of them to date). I cannot even begin to add up the thousands of dollars I spent in a 2 year span just to buy decorations, not just from the Cartel Shop (the micro transactions) but in time and subs just trying to collect enough stuff to make all 11 strongholds into something special for my main and alts. If Blizz brought in actual player housing, I can only imagine the amount of money things would cost in the shop (which I would pay) and then add Woodworking as a Profession to allow players to make all kinds of furniture to sell for a fortune at the AH which would also drive token sales. Player housing is literally an instance like the garrison, on a smaller more quaint scale, that takes care of itself and turns a HUGE profit for very little effort spent. I am absolutely on board for this.

It’s been confirmed we’ll get it eventually, it’s just a matter of effort and time. My best guess is maybe Midnight since it’s a world revamp of old zones through Last Titan we may see the new housing system be the major expansion selling point.

No, to keep on the trend of emulating real life within the game, blizzard has decided to replicate the housing crisis.

They will givd it to you and its just prefabs they have in the games that you cant furnish

Full xyz control or don’t bother. I remember snap grid housing in a few MMORPGS ( FFXI, LOTRO, and maybe some mobile MMOs) and really didn’t like those. Feels way too restrictive.

No. Absolutely, unequivocally, completely no.

ESO is free to play with an option sub. WoW is not. Monetizing player housing would be one way to have me ending over 15 years of my almost continual sub.

I think Ive got 12-14 houses in ESO…from that tiny mushroom looking thing to a couple huge mansions. I buy them unfurnished…cheaper and so I can farm stuff for them if I ever get around to it.

If they want to be really authentic they’d add a bunch of available player housing units but not let you buy them.

Do you really want the current WoW team being in charge of player housing?

If devs thought player housing could be a major selling point they would’ve implemented it by now. Also I’m pretty sure they didn’t “confirm” housing so much as say it’s something they would want to add to the game.

Sure, not not?

All things considered, TWW’s launch from various background teams was great. Not perfect, but still great overall.

You’ve been complaining about WoW devs in other threads. You realize player housing is an engineering issue, right? And Blizzard’s engineering team has genuinely done good work along with the art team.

Why are you so bitter to people you know nothing about?

There is a monetized version of their housing on ESO but you can also purchase it with in-game currency which is not monetized.

FFXIV in the meantime it’s just in-game currency which is also not monetized.

Try again.

edit: even if both of those other games’ housing WAS solely monetized, that wouldn’t mean that WoW’s would have to be. Such a non-argument. :joy:  :joy:

yeah?
where they say that

Overall, given the circumstances, the devs as a whole do good work, it’s the Financial division that needs a few rough spots buffered out, and a reminder plaque on their desk that says: “We work for a live service gaming company, our job is literally fun.”

When I played it last, you could get a single room for free but everything else cost Crowns, which were generally available only by purchasing them from the store. (I think you got a small amount regularly if you were subbed but I don’t recall the details.)

So it seems that since I last played they have provided two means of buying a house; either by Crowns or by gold, which is obviously an improvement. From what I can see - and you can correct me again if I am wrong - the gold prices on houses are pretty intense.

The cheapest I could see on a quick search was around 40,000g, going up from there. You say "just ingame currency’ but the page I read (which was dated April 2023) indicated you could use either currency.

So sure, you got me, I didn’t know that since my last last venture into ESO they had given an alternate way of getting a house. A somewhat pricey way, goldwise, but still another way.

Personally, the idea of having to buy a house for any currency doesn’t appeal to me. The preferable method would be to create your own house through ingame quests or activities which is how games such as poor old Wildstar did it. However I wouldn’t be surprised if Blizzard went the way of ESO and sold houses on the store for large gold amounts as another of those infamous ‘gold sinks’ as was done for the warband bank.

I can see the qqstorm now if Blizzard were to add houses to the blizzard store like ESO did with their housing.

Any housing options for wow would have to be either phased or instanced. But that comes with it’s own problems. Least of which is tied to the instance servers themselves. They would have to account for the “too many instances open” error.
